So today was my first day back at school since my big chop. At first I thought *hmm this won't be so bad. Lots of people here are natural* WRONG. As soon as I walk in people began to assault me with questions as to why I cut my hair. At first I figured they were just curious, so I answered politely telling them that I just wanted a nice change and that going natural was something I've always wanted to do. For a few, that was fine, they paid their compliments or asked more about my HHJ and then swiftly got on with the rest of their life. However, a majority decided to take charge and just flat out tell me what needs to be done to my head..... :perplexed ....Last time I checked it was my head.... so a group of girls gathered around me and started telling me "You shoulda had it cut in a style, I woulda liked it better" "You should dye the front like burgandy *nods head* I think that would be cute" "You should pick it out" "You shouldn't have cut your hair" "I don't like it...I think it looks ratchet" I even had a teacher that told me that she didn't think it was appropriate for this part of the world, and that it would be okay if I lived in like Tahiti :swearing:... What the heck was that suppose to mean? And another girl swore up and down that I probably had a weave and was revealing my real hair. *sigh* I made it through the day, hopefully tomorrow will be old news :)

Congratulations on your chop! I love your twa!! :yep:

There were a few people that gave me the side eye too OP. And now, they're natural. :giggle:

Don't worry about ignorant people. Embrace your hair, keep your head held high, and brush them off. ;)

As long as you are happy with it that is all that matters. People will always have something to say, some positive, some not. Congratulations on doing what you felt was good for you!!! :-)

Wow! That is unfortunate. I don't know what grade you are in or your hair goals, but in a couple of years you can show them your long beautiful tresses. Shame on that ignorant teacher, too.

Thanks :) this is the same teacher who took pictures of weaves and was like "I'm gonna as my husband aren't you glad you married a white woman" :look:

Oh, Baby Girl, I'm sorry you had to go through all this foolishness!

I cut my hair from APL length to a TWA when I was 16 for the exact same reasons as you and had a very similar experience as you did today! It was hard to deal with people's ignorance and cruelty but I got through it---and so will you! Remember that you cut your hair because YOU wanted to go natural and YOU wanted a nice change---for YOU. Your feelings about your hair, your decisions regarding your hair are all that matters because YOU are the subject in YOUR beautiful life and that's all that matters.

It takes courage to truly be yourself and not what others think you should be. If I could go back and tell my teenaged self something, it would be to hold my head high, brush the dirt off my shoulds, shake the dust from my feet, smile, and keep it moving! As long as you are in love with yourself, cultivating a loving relationship with yourself and those you love and who love you---then you are on the right path, the best path and the hair on the top of your head can't change that!

I wish you strength and love and please take good care of your precious, precious self!

That teacher is out of hand! She talkin bout weaves and natural hair, sound like she don't like black women or at least not our hair. I'd tell on her lol. But anyway... I was called crazy for cutting off my relaxed hair which surprised me since i only had full SL hair smh. But as long as you got at least one person or in your case all of LHCF:yep: in your corner you can do this.

HighAspirations The great thing about getting older is that you stop caring about other people's opinions. An old boss of mine use to say, and I paraphrase here, that an opinion is like an elbow everybody's got at least one. Don't let those silly girls (and that includes the teacher) throw you off your stride. You have a plan for YOUR hair. Do You:blowkiss:and let them have their ratty weaves, receding hair lines, and dry, brittle strands.

I even had a teacher that told me that she didn't think it was appropriate for this part of the world, and that it would be okay if I lived in like Tahiti :swearing:... What the heck was that suppose to mean?

I had to read this whole section a couple of times. Tahiti, though?

I was so confused I just shrugged thinking *how did she just pull that out of thin air*
Thanks so much for your support everyone. It was...interesting I just kept telling myself hold your head high your doing this for you. I have the LHCF ladies and my BFF (who bc'd a week before me, goes to a different school and got totally different reactions :whyme: )behind me :-)

And that unprofessional idiot will still be there talking reckless to other children. You're moving, even more reason to report her.

I'll talk to my parents about it in the morning. They both thought it was ridiculous that she would say something like that

Congratz on your big chop. :yep: When I was in high school, I didn't know a thing about natural hair or going natural! Don't pay attention to those silly kids (or the dumb teacher).

Even an anonymous letter to the VP is enough to shake her up. Other people in your class heard it too in case anyone ever comes to check. If you're cool with the teacher and aren't looking to get her written up, don't let us persuade you.

Good luck on your move and CONGRATS on your BC. I wish I had that kinda confidence in HS!

Congrats on your bc - In about 6 months time when your hair is long enough to do two strand twists - this will be nothing but a distant memory! (That teacher is out of order though!)

Thanks! I love the fact that when you have a TWA the month to month progress is amazing especially for the first year

Umm wtf. Tell ur parents about that damn teacher so she can get fired. Blacklist her *** so the only job she can get will be in Tahiti.

What in the world? What kind of school do you go to? That teacher is wreckless! Tell on her. You do not deserve that kind of treatment from her. She has nerve. Hold your head high.

Your bc looks beautiful. It compliments your smile. I'm glad that you have the confidence to just brush the stupid comments to the left.

As for you teacher, she is disgusting. I had (past tense bc she is too stupid for me to associate with) who is dating a black men and felt like she was better than black women bc he choose her Asian butt and not a black women. It stems from insecurity and subliminal racism. I'm glad you are moving and God is taking you out of that ridiculous place.

Thanks :) I'm happy to be moving. The teacher is nice to me but she treats me kinda like a pet.. ..the people at my old school (where I'm moving back to) are a lot more open minded

Just an update. Everyone who was complaining that i cut my hair is now drooling over how fast its growing. How the tables have turned. They thought i would be bald forever. One girl even told me that it looks like it have good hair :look: i just shrugged. Its the end of the semester I'm too tired to argue

Wait till they see you when school starts back up.

I figured you where in high school. If you were older, college students/colleagues would have less stupid things to say. Ok, maybe slightly less stupid.

Next time she even attempts to disparage black women, make sure to remind her that women of ALL ethnicities are now sporting weaves. White, Asian, brown, you name it, I've seen it all and I'm not even in the States, I'm in Toronto. And don't forget that HER favourite celebrites have been wearing them for years.

Keep your head up and carry on. What a dumb teacher you have, seriously. SMH.
