Terressentials - who's still playin with mud?!

I was able to get this on the ground, paid 21 bucks for the 16oz bottle. My sister ordered her's a week prior. She didn't realize that the healthfood store in our city carried it. I got the lavender and my sister let me try the lemon. I like them both! This will be my staple shampoo for now on, my hair felt really clean and soft.

I conditioned with my heat cap yesterday with an Alaffia conditioner and my hair was super soft. My hair feels good, thank you ladies for this thread. My sister actually told me about this over a month ago and I've seen the reviews on YT but didn't want to try it because I really like shampoo and I wasn't expecting such good results :yep:.

I did DC with my homemade concoction for about 2 hours rinsed and then put in a little leave-in. I didn't want to overly saturate my hair especially after my very moisturizing DC.

If you hop into the other Terressentials thread you will find that everyone has a varying way of adding this product to their current regimens. It will most likely be trial and error, just be sure not to overuse the product unless you can afford regular shipments:)

What "flavor" are you ordering? Let us know how it works out!

@faithVA Thanks for the reply. I use all natural products, to include curl junkie, kknt, and oils like argan and caster. I've been noticing the residue for a while and now I'm wondering if my low porosity hair is incompatible with the mud.

I have low porosity hair as well. But I don't know why you would have an issue. I do remember noticing residue once but I don't remember what I did to correct it. Perhaps for me it was as simple as not leaving it on for more than 20 minutes. I never had it stick to my hair though. The only other time I have had an issue with residue is when using conditioners with Shea Butter or Creamy Coconut Base as one of the 1st 2 ingredients.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

It seems like there is a common theme here and that the mud is sticking to the products on your hair.

faithVA Thanks for the info. Now that you mention it, I do use QB CCDG on occasion and some of my CJ conditioners do have butters in them. I wonder if this could be the issue. What do people do when they use the mud and already have butters in their hair?

I am not sure. I have started adding more oil to my butters because I found that they weren't working on my hair well. But that is why I scrub my scalp and rinse my hair well to get most of the products off my scalp and hair prior to starting. I've never done an ACV rinse but I would think using the ACV should get the product off your scalp and hair. If it isn't perhaps you are diluting the ACV too much.

But if you like the butters the way they are and you have rinsed well with water and have tried the ACV rinse then perhaps the mudwash isn't for you. Even though it works, it may just not be a good fit for your regimen.

My Lavender mud FINALLY showed up. My poor follicles can't take too much more Hello Hydration co-washes. I will play with it tomorrow along with my face mud and report back to the forum.

Very helpful hints...I think I may try some of them when I take down my latest set of mini twists! I have been struggling with the scalp residue issue :nono:

@napbella, There are actually two locations. My husband goes to the Frederick location. There is also one in Middleton. Here are the addresses:

100 East Patrick Street, Frederick, MD
2650 Old National Pike, Middletown, MD

reeko43, napbella:

This is where I picked mine up from. I got the Lavendar and the Lemon scents. I tried the Lavendar last night and didn't too much for me. Maybe I should clarify first and try again this weekend. I really want this to work.

I welcome any suggestions...

Drats! Both of those locations are over and hour from me :ohwell:. I was so excited since I live in Maryland but oh well

Hey there ladies,
I am just checking in. I am still using the mud wash. I have been exclusively using it for about 4 months now. I love it! I love the way my hair feels with it, I love the clumping it's brought out in my hair.

Plus, I can finger comb with ease! I mean, left coast lemon & cool mint are my favs! I don't have to use a comb at all, I just smooth it in & down. Curls pop and my hair is detangled instantly! I love this stuff!

I just wish that they would have a retailer in my area so I could buy it directly.

I love those two also. I use the cool mint on my scalp and the LCL on my hair:yep:

What did you do with yours? Are you willing to sell? And why didn't it work for you?

Has anyone perfected a homemade dupe for this yet?

I was trying and got pretty close I make a tea with rose hips, marshmallow, and burdock root, then add AVJ and mix in enough bentonite clay to get the right consistency. Wasnt perfect but was pretty good. I quit trying to make the home made version once I bought the real thing lol. It just too good to bother trying to replicate.

I use it and totally love it! Fortunately, there is a Terresentials store 2 blocks from DH job :yep: No more shampoo for me. I mix with ayurvedic herbs, shikakai, brahmi, hibiscus, neem and bhringaraj powders. My hair feels great. I only use 1 tlbs of wash and water for a thin paste so my bottle will last for quite a while.

Oooooh I need to try this.

@reeko43 - You only use 1 tablespoon? I know I use too much but I can't imagine using so little. How are you able to do that?

LadyPBC Ive found that with continued use I can use less of the product. Ive also started to do the ACV scalp scrub first like what Naptural85 does, which helps with using less product.

Oh. Hey. Sorry about that. Not long enough weekend. Well, I went back to my hair mud. Being that CA has HARD butt water, I went outside to rinse with a hose and ACV rinse. Yup a hose. Worked just like the first time, and I only needed a leave in afterwards. So, I am sticking with mud from now on.

I got Left Coast Lemon and Lavender last week. I used the lemon on Friday and I like it alot. My hair smelled heavenly and detangled easily. It was soft and had a little more hang after. I used a she butter leave-in and sealed with argan and jojoba oil. My hair still felt moisturized yesterday when I re-moisturized.

Serenity_Peace, I have never tried the Lavender. I use the lemon and liked it so much I really didn't consider trying something else. When I began using the wash I had already been using natural products. If you have not, you should definitely clarify or do the detox that Terressentials suggests.

I really want to try this mud washing stuff, thanks @newgrowth15 for posting that YT'er I'm gonna try making my own and see what happens :yep:

Anyone with coarse hair mud washing?

Thanks! Have you tried her recipe? It does sound similar to the commercial version. She reminds me of Paula Deen...her accent does anyway.

halee_J, let us know how it turns out for you if you decide to make it yourself.

manter26, I have not tried her recipes yet, but I have used Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay to make my own mud wash. I mixed it with water, apple cider vinegar and lavender. My hair felt very soft and did not need conditioner afterwards.

newgrowth15

I used the lavender mud wash recipe from Roots4U45 on YT. It didn't rinse clean from my hair. I use shea butter so did clarify with ACV first. Even after several (like 15) minutes under running water, there was this ever so slight whitish cast on my hair. I had to lightly shampoo to get the clay residue out.

Perhaps I didn't get out all the shea butter and the clay stuck to the butter? I have hard water, maybe that it? I dunno I'm disappointed I really wanted it to work :ohwell:

KittyMeowMeow I'm having an issue with the mud not rinsing clean. I'm gonna try your method of o/n pre-poo and oil rinse with EVOO prior to mudwashing. I am a little heavy handed with the shea butter, perhaps an ACV rinse is not enough...

That will probably help. The mud is probably sticking to the shea butter. Oils can help break down the butter a bit to make it easier to remove.

Are they having a Black Friday sale, because I actually want to try this. I don't want to pay full price for it though.

I've been using this for about 2 months now....I actually like it!

I have been using all natural maintenance products as well.

I've tried it but I just can't get it to work for me. I always end up with residue. I only use shea butter or all natural products to style with. It takes me so much longer to wash when I use this.

I cleanse twice a month with Left Coast Lemon and I really like it. I purchased my first bottle in January and completed the detox. In case anyone is considering a purchase, I'll outline my experience thus far:

Here are my pros:
1) My hair actually looks darker, and on the other hand, my gray hairs are gleaming.
2) My curls are very springy.
3) Oils no longer just sit on my hair. I can add oil to my hair and touch my hair and my hand is not greasy afterward.
4) My hair dies slower and has a natural shine/sheen that I've never noticed before.
5) My hair holds twists better than ever before. It's like I have someone else's hair. While still thin in places, my twists actually look like twists, and I can achieve twist outs.

Here are my cons: (but not deal breakers, I love this stuff:yep:)

1) My hair's softer textures are elongated. I don't know how this happened because I do not use heat, but after the detox, I noticed that when wet, my hair in the front (bangs), the nape, and a small patch behind my ear hangs like it did when it was heat damaged.

This is very strange to me. But unlike when my hair was heat damaged, the hair still holds twists and shrinks up to match the rest of my hair when it's dry.

2) My hair seems to need more moisture more frequently than before. I had my regimen to the point where I was moisturizing and sealing just a few days a week, and now I'm back to needing to m/s at least once a day.

I think this might have more to do with the products that I'm using than the mud wash. I ran out of QB AOHC and sweet almond oil so I've been using products from my stash until I can re-order. Once I begin using my staples again, I'll repost if there is a change in how often I need to m/s.

Also, for those who said that they can't rinse clean, I find that a little goes a long way. During the detox, I was using way too much of the mud, and I was in my shower rinsing until I ran out of hot water, and I still had mud in my hair.

I find that adding the mud outside of the shower to wet hair and getting in to rinse really is the best way. I saw Naptural85 do it, and it made perfect sense. I section my hair into 4 parts, add a small amount to each section, and then braid the section and get into the shower to rinse. I haven't had any problems rinsing my hair since then.

HTH!

I had forgotten about the clay until I cleaned out my HAIR Closet the other day.

I used the last bit of clay in a jug of distilled water in the shower.

I let it air-dry the rest of the day (no xtra products)
then detangled w/Crisco & 2-strand twisted before bed.
MY HAIR WAS FIYAH!!!

Curls but had length, was soft and clean!!

I also have a bottle of the Lavender Terressentials..

I will be diluting that & using this more often.

I have color but use it anyway- no problems!

QUESTION::
I thought using ACV would close the hair cuticle
not allowing moisture, etc into the hair shaft.

It would seem that ACV be used AFTER the clay wash, NO?

Whatever works for you is fine,
but just asking...
