That will be great. I would love to see the pics:grin: Just make sure you use a heat protectant. But I dont think you should do a blow out all the time it will damage your pretty hair.

cant wait to see it!

if this is a real poll...i regretted my last blowout cause i had been all up in LHCF and i was scared of the heat but it came out beautifully, so after a few hours i didnt regret it.

Using heat once in a blue moon won't kill you. Just make sure they use a good heat protectant (to be safe, bring your own) and make sure they aren't using excessive heat, if you smell burning hair or can't see througth the smoke, speak up:lachen:. Seriously though, just stay focused throughout the whole process and you will be ok:yep:

Yeah not too often..I love my hair waaay too much...See the prob is...I've never done a GOOD trim before..lol..so that's why I'm getting it done. If I like it I will prob straighten it once every 2 months or so.

Oh you want a trim too. Make sure she does it right:yep: I hope it comes out beautiful:rolleyes:

I had mine straightened on Sunday- I went to a dominican stylist and did the whole rollerset, then blow out thing. Turned out beautifully (No, I haven;t taken pics yet) I love my curly hair, but it is so fun having it all stretched out, silky and blowing in the wind sometimes.

I say go for it (just don't get addicted to it, like I seem to be doing- this is my 3rd time in the last 4 months). I don't believe I suffered any damage, but I know using heat too often probably isn't good.

I got my hair straightened for the first time about two months ago, and one section of my hair did not revert all the way back. Needless to say, I don't know when I will be going back. My hair is the same length as yours, and now it looks a little funny when I try to wear my hair down. But I will say that the person I went to was more concerned about getting my hair straight than maintaining my curl pattern and I think that had a lot to do with it. I would suggest that you find someone who knows how to do natural hair and not just "black" hair, because it is definitely not the same thing.

That's the only way I get it straightened - at the salon. Haven't had any problems at all. My hairdresser blowdries with a paddle brush then flat irons.

When i was natural i got my hair straightened with a marcel iron. It permanently damaged 4 sections of my hair.....left it straight in sections and it dried out my hair.

I have very fragile, naturally dry hair but i know i'm in the minority so i think you'll be fine. Just stay away from those marcel tools.

1st time I got my hair straightened, i got mass damage! So much so 8 months later I had to continually trim heat damaged hair.

I found a new salon that are amazing! The care for the health of my hair and are totally professional at handling natural hair. I visit them every 3/4 months simply because I cant afford it :lachen:

I got my hair done a few weeks ago and although I was quite pleased for the most part there were a few parts that did not revert. I am not happy about that. But I knew the risk going into it but chose to ignore it. Oh well

I've been on my hair care journey since the beg. of '07. My goal was to reach BSL or longer and now the new goal is to get rid of all my heat damage. I believe I will retain length even more once all the weak/dead/heat damaged hair is gone. So the question was how do I trim, I mean a good DEEP trim? I've asked the board for advice and the decision I made was to go the salon with my hair pre-washed, apply the DC to soften and have my stylist trim my hair.

I made an apt. to speak with him about what I wanted FIRST. He explained that it would be best to blow dry and cut in order to make certain the hair is even. I don't care much about being even NOW, all I want is a good deep trim as even as possible (anything better than what I could do at home basically). All this to say, you don't HAVE to straighten to trim your hair. My intention is to get a shape up when I plan on straightening and I have no idea when that will be, maybe when I'm MBL-WSL???

My apt is set for this afternoon at 4 PM! This is a hot mess but I washed my hair this AM and plan on going to the bathroom around 3 something to apply my Siliconado DC to provide muy slip when he cuts through my kinks. I def. have to use the handicap stall!

I got my hair straightened at a salon a couple of times. It got straight and reverted after washing and it looked good and the press (hot comb) held until wash day. It just hurt like H3LL! That's why I don't do it anymore.

I don't visit the dominican salon often, but when I do they do a good job getting it straight. I usually get a rollerset then blown out. This gets my hair pretty straight but not bone straight. I would have to go over my hair with a flat iron to get it bone straight.

One thing I do love about dominican salons is how bouncy and airy my hair feels afterwards. My hair just has so much body and moves so easily I just can't duplicate that feeling.

i can't wait to see your hair straightened. I don't think you'll regret it. 90% of the reason I haven't straightened my hair is because I want to reach a certain length goal and WOW the hell out of people. The other 10% of me is scared of the heat, but I know it's inevitable.

Make sure you post pics!!!

i don't straighten often, and my stylist is the bomb. so no regrets, it came out looking nice and still reverted afterwards.

My last straightening job left me with heat damage near both my temples :wallbash:. I thought I thoroughly researched and was ready. She was natural herself and seemed to know her stuff. But as soon as she pulled out that marcel iron I should have immediately told her "NO"! My new growth just would curl up after 3 washes.

I'm going to try again in November with a new stylist with better tools.

I've never gotten a blow out, but when i went to the salon regularly, it would be bone straight, look nice too, just my hair was dry and damaged. I lost all curl texture, AND I would always get split ends which she would blame on me.

I have had my hair flat ironed at the salon, actually two different salons. I had really good experiances at both places. Both times my hair was blown dry first with a dryer and then flat ironed. My hair came out great both times and no damage. I am actually planning on having it done again next month and get my highlightes re-done as well.

My hair came out nice, but the price was not so nice.. lol

Happy Hair Growing!
