Terressentials - who's still playin with mud?!

According to the ingredients list on the website these products are mud (clay) with herbal tea and essential oils. For those who want to try mud washes but can't get these specific products you could always improvise by getting your own clay and mixing it with your own herbal tea and eo's. Just a suggestion.

Now I'm interested. I can get this locally at my health food store, ladies do you need to condition afterwards?

I didn't care for it. I bought the lavender and lemon fragrances. I used the lavender 2-3 times and the lemon once. I was expecting a lot from this product based on the rave reviews. People were talking about slip and easy detangling but it did the opposite for me.

I'm so sorry it did not work out for you.

But umm....

kandake

Do you have what you didnt use for sell?

Been using it, the LCL. My hair clumps like crazy now, and just looks/feels better overall. I wash with it once a week so far, will see how my hair responds and adjust accordingly. But it's a staple; I'll never go back to regular shampoo. Don't mind the price because I only use so little, etc.

I use it and totally love it! Fortunately, there is a Terresentials store 2 blocks from DH job :yep: No more shampoo for me. I mix with ayurvedic herbs, shikakai, brahmi, hibiscus, neem and bhringaraj powders. My hair feels great. I only use 1 tlbs of wash and water for a thin paste so my bottle will last for quite a while.

You must be in Frederick. I think I may drive your way and pick up the products.

I found the Terressentials mud to be very detangling and it did indeed "define my coils" but I do not feel that the mud truly got MY scalp clean at all.

Don't ask me if I have any for sell 'cause I already sold the one extra full bottle I had .

blcbuty@, do you follow up with a conditioner? Thinking about buying this tomorrow and figuring out a way to work this.

I did DC with my homemade concoction for about 2 hours rinsed and then put in a little leave-in. I didn't want to overly saturate my hair especially after my very moisturizing DC.

If you hop into the other Terressentials thread you will find that everyone has a varying way of adding this product to their current regimens. It will most likely be trial and error, just be sure not to overuse the product unless you can afford regular shipments:)

What "flavor" are you ordering? Let us know how it works out!

Avaya, that's too bad it didn't work for you! Did you try doing an ACV rinse prior to help cleanse/prepare your scalp?

The lady is so cute. She sounds alot like Paula Dean. :giggle: I think I may have to try my hand at making this. I really do like the Left Coast lemon.

I didn't feel that it got my scalp clean, it seemed to sit on my scalp when I rinsed. When I tried it again, I made sure to scrub my scalp and that did the trick. My scalp and hair was clean. :yep:

It didn't work for me.

It wasn't great for me either. Two sections of my scalp are very itchy and dry and when I would "wash" with the Terressentials I never felt that my scalp was satisfactorily cleaned.

My scalp would be itching hours later :nono:  I switched to KeraCare and my scalp is much better now

I will admit that it is an excellent detangler. I even put up with scalp itchiness for longer than I should have because I feared losing the ease of detangling, but I haven't had any difficulty since moving to another product.

I used the lavendar wash and loved it, however I stopped using it about 2 mths ago because I wanted to find something cheaper. So I bought some bentonite clay and mixed it with aloe juice and my hair feels heavenly.

I've been using it for several months. This is my all-time staple, and I am never going back to shampoo.

WHAT THIS HAS DONE FOR MY HAIR:
Makes my curls clump so easily, hair is sooo easy to detangle, my hair hangs so much longer. My regimine is ridiculously simple now.

This has really brought balance to my hair. Before this, it was a constant battle of stripping and then building back up. This has left my hair clean, fluffy, and soft. Now I'm just using butters, oils, and a small amount of a light natural leave in. It's amazing to feel my hair as it was meant to be.

HEALING MY SCALP:

I feel this has been wonderful for my scalp. I'm transitioning, and my scab hair is still fading away. Or, I should say, was. It had been gradually growing out normal hair, strand by strand. I have varied hair types, and my dryer, tighter curled areas were the most affected. The scab hair had no consistent pattern on the strand, and felt rough and then midway on the strand, it would be "normal" and soft. This was not relaxed hair, but "natural" scab hair. Anyway, I feel that this has contributed to my follicles healing. On the rare occasions I'm finding those "scab hairs", they are growing normally from my scalp. I had heard that mud can help detox the scalp...don't know much about that though. I've also made other healthy changes, like drinking more water and vitamins, but I do think this has helped.

HOW I USE IT:

I use Left Coast Lemon on the dryer, more cottony areas with tighter curls & frizz. Most washes, I just apply diluted to my scalp with an applicator bottle, massage in, leave for a few mintues, rinse. As needed, I massage it through my hair and leave in 2-3 minutes, rinse, detangle.

Peppermint (great scalp tingle) on the looser curls (not particularly dry). Dilute with water, massage through hair & scalp, leave on a few minutes, rinse, detangle.

Leaving it in for a while was too drying for me (I saw others were using it for like 30 minutes and with heat). While it leaves the hair feeling moisturized, it is not a moisturizing product. Hair feels soft & gets moisturized easily because this gently removes the stuff that was on it, leaving it soft and clean.

There are a lot of YT vids, naptural85 shows her routine & review of it here:

WHAT IS IT NOT FOR:

- This isn't recommended for relaxed, colored or damaged hair (from the manufacturer). Terressentials removes the "stuff" from your hair, so it leaves damaged hair exposed. I can testify that this hasn't been great for my nearly grown out transitioning ends. I'm getting by with religious and heavy protein use (that Nexxus 2 minute stuff) & S&D, but wouldn't choose this for relaxed hair.
----

I'd encourage everyone to try it! There are some vids of people trying to dupe the recipe - could be an option if you end up liking it but don't want to spend the $$. I've had 2 big bottles for several months...I haven't minded the cost at all.

Oh, and I like to do something every few weeks or as needed to deep clean and deep moisturize:

1.Pre-poo & scalp massage with EVOO mixed in with EVCO (my usual prepoo/everything oil).
2. Marinate with a plastic bag covered with a towel and watch hulu.
3. Oil rinse before putting in Terressentials lemon for a few minutes.

EVOO has both great cleansing power and moisturizing power. Oils dissolve oils, and EVCO is one of the best cleansing oils- it's also great for gently removing waxes & emulsifiers (found in conditioners). It works great with Terressentials!

Seriously, my hair is so lucious, full, soft, and healthy now. I love this stuff!

Ladies, help! I've been using Terressentials mud wash for six months. I've always noticed a slight build up of mud in my scalp and roots area. It was always alleviated by extra rinsing. This past Saturday I wet my hair and applied the mud without diluting. I applied cool mint to my scalp and lavender to my hair. I washed twice and rinsed. The mud was still there. I washed for like 20 minutes and there was still a lot of residue.

I was due for a steam treatment so I hopped under my steamer. I assumed the mud would break down more easily. Big mistake. My scalp and the hair three inches from my scalp were caked with mud. It seemed like all the mud residue that was stuck in my hair the entire six months was lifted from my strands. I spent 20 minutes rinsing it out and finally had to grab some Giovanni 50/50. My hair was still soft, but if I have to shampoo out my mud is it really worth it?

Has anyone else experienced this? What could I do differently?

I haven't experienced this. I usually clarify with acv before using the mud.

I really want to try this mud washing stuff, thanks newgrowth15 for posting that YT'er I'm gonna try making my own and see what happens :yep:

Anyone with coarse hair mud washing?

I have not really experienced this. Before I mud wash I rinse my hair and scalp thoroughly. I usually dilute the mud wash but I have also used it straight. But I have always been able to rinse it easily.

What types of products did you use the week prior? Sometimes the products you use during the week can cause things to stick.

I've experienced this, after trying the product diluted and as recommended on the bottle. I also tried the ACV clarification, and had better results with foregoing the mud wash... because it would defeat the purpose of the ACV for my hair.

I assume that my hair is too dense for this, but I have slight success with doing the detox with the Lavender wash (it would sit on my hair, but my hair dried soft). The wash made my hair color appear lighter, until I realized it was just the mud not washing off after continuous rinses. :perplexed:

When I tried the bentonite clay wash a few years ago I had similar results - I believe that clays just do not work with my hair strands *it just "sits" on my hair*.

My regimen before (and after) the wash has always been natural (or close to it) and I haven't noticed a difference in the product changing my hair for the best. I have Giovanni shampoo that gets the job done as good as this, and for only $6

faithVA Thanks for the reply. I use all natural products, to include curl junkie, kknt, and oils like argan and caster. I've been noticing the residue for a while and now I'm wondering if my low porosity hair is incompatible with the mud.

I have low porosity hair as well. But I don't know why you would have an issue. I do remember noticing residue once but I don't remember what I did to correct it. Perhaps for me it was as simple as not leaving it on for more than 20 minutes. I never had it stick to my hair though. The only other time I have had an issue with residue is when using conditioners with Shea Butter or Creamy Coconut Base as one of the 1st 2 ingredients.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
