Such a fantastic idea! I'll be experimenting with all of my girls' barbie dolls over the weekend.

That is awesome! I will surely be experimenting with this. My poor baby has very few dolls because I just refuse to purchase straight silky haired dolls for my type 4a/4b three year old who is in the early stages of forming her ideas about beauty. The natural haired dolls I have seen are either too expensive or have hair that feels and looks terrible. This is perfect! Thanks for posting this OP:)

Just imagining all of us boiling barbie heads over the weekend! LOL If anyone actually does it, please post results. I have to get pipe cleaners!

Now they offer different versions of Addy. You can get a light-skin, green-eyed Addy with straight hair or curly hair. Or a dark-skin, hazel-eyed Addy with spirals. There are sooo many options. But all of them have silky hair.

Those aren't Addy. Those are the dolls that you create. Addy is the same. The historical character dolls don't have options. Addy still has coarse 4b hair. kweenameena

I showed this to my three year-old. She wanted to run out and get the pipe cleaners right away (except we were already in pajamas) LOL. I promised her we would do it. I can't wait! And so happy she wants her Barbies' hair to look this way.

Update! So...who knew that Natural Hair Barbie has issues with curl definition and frizz just like the rest of us! LOL Yeah, this was a cool first attempt, but nowhere near the tutorials results! I was feeling bad at first, then I had to remind myself that I was comparing my results to those of the mom from Beads, Braids, and Beyond! Who was I kidding??? LOL Despite the need to go back to the drawing board, I still think the hair looks a far sight better than the straight hair she had. I can tell you that each section needs to be done carefully (I did not). And the cutting off of the scraggly ends is key (Just like real life! LOL) And now without further ado, I present to you: Transitioning Twistout with a little 4a/4b/3c mix Tiana Barbie!!!!! [Applause]

I added the headband (my daughter's ponytail holder) but it actually looks o.k. without.

kittenz - Thanks! I tried. I was actually rushing because a 3 year-old has no concept of waiting for a result. I guess she thought once Barbie saw the pipe cleaners the hair would curl up. I actually got better at it toward the back, but then I discovered the sections can't be too small or too big. I should ask the BBB mom for a more in-depth tutorial. Then again, this was a lot of work. I think I might just literally PAY someone with crafty skills to do this for me! ahem, I mean my daughter! LOL

kweenameena when did addy get silky hair???!!!! What!

Yeah wft? My Addy from 1997 had ... very difficult hair, it tangled and snapped and came out in the brush (it was like Troll doll hair!).... I was pissed, I wanted an AG doll for the hair to play in and then I couldn't play in it! I might have to send her in for a neew head! So I can play in her hair :D Off to see if they still have the doll hospital! So at least I can try new styles on her :D

I'm doing this with my daughter tonight.
It's funny because this morning she told me that she loved my fro the best of all of my hairstyles.
So I'm sure she'd love to have her barbies be just as fly as her momma.:look::lol:
