Silk or Satin? What do you wear to bed and why?

I am using the Lucy Satin cap from Maverick Wear.

I prefer the softness of silk, but I love the style of this cap so Satin is working out just fine.

About 2 times a week, I don't put anything on when I stay at my boyfriend's house. I just use a nice silk pillowcase there.
 
I agree with Honeydew, I like the softness of silk but the satin scarf has worked out well for me. They are easier to adjust. The silk scarves get ruin pretty fast from moisturizers and products that are put in the hair.
 
I gave up the scarves. I use satin pillowcases. I'd use silk, but I found the satin first and haven't gone out looking for others. And I would worry, I think, about ruining a silk pillowcase.
 
I prefer Silk. One, I like that it's a natural fiber. Two, it's smoother than satin, which still seems a little rough to me.

Also, I think satin still takes moisture from my hair.

My hair under a silk scarf, feels quite moist in the morning.
 
I use a synthetic satin scarf. It probably still draws moisture out of my hair as do cotton, but i like it because it keeps my hair smoothe. One day i'll get lucky and run into a real satin or real silk clothe that i can use. OT: it upsets me to go to the hair store and find a bunch of fake silk/satin scars and they are priced at like $6!!! :hammer: what a ripoff...it they aint nothing but polyester squares....
 
I have silk scarves, bonnets and pillowcases from www.tenderheaded.com and I wear those very large satin scarves from Sally's. I have an adjustable, large satin hair bonnet also that I discovered at Walmart.

I find both silk and satin keep my hair moisturized. My preference is the silk but I keep losing the scarves. They slide very easily off my head unless I secure it with hair pins.
 
Thanks to those that have replied so far. Has anyone noticed that the Satin-bonnets or pillowcases (the variety sold at the local BSS) get old quickly?
I ran my old satin bonnet along my hair and it was pulling on some of my hairs :eek: . So I went to the BSS and purchased a new one that had "slip" (?) to it.

Do you find with silk you get this problem? I may need to check into a silk wrap.:ohwell:

The silk I get at www.tenderheaded.com has almost too much "slip", IMO. It's a very good quality of smooth silk (there are different types of silk).

There are different types of satin also and some have a smoother finish than others do. So far, I haven't had problems with the satin or the silk.

thats where I got my red silk scarf but the dye gets all over the sheets so I stopped wearing it :( . My mother let me use a huge scarf that is really mainly for decaration...but its made of silk too and stays on my head better with the dye staying on the scarf and not getting on the sheets...lol. Its a GA Tech scarf and its great.
 
I prefer satin scarves. The silk ones don't seem to stay on my head at night. They are not strecthy and versitile like the stain scarves. I got my satin scarves/headwraps from wal-mart in the "ethnic hair care section." It was like 2 dollars. Plus, if I am too lazy to tie the scarf on my head, I just lay it across my pillow and tuck it under like it's a satin pillow case. Sometimes I sleep with a scarf on my head and one on my pillow. :)

Sounds like something was wrong with your red silk scarf. I've only bought navy colored ones but I've never had them leave dye on my sheets or anywhere. That website will take returns if there's a problem with their products.
 
I need something new for my hair. I see a trip to sally's for a satin pillowcase in my future.
I cant seem to sleep with a scarf on my head anymore
 
I sleep with a satin bonnet. I have problems using scarves because for some reason its never on my head when I wake up the next morning. I use a drawstring bonnet that I can tie tightly and I havent had any problems with it yet.
 
I wear the satin no slip hair bonnett (I forgot the brand). Satin is because that's the fabric it came in. If it were silk, I would get that too. Sometimes, I'll take a large silk scarf and wrap it around my pillow because I don't feel like having the sleep bonnett on.
 
I wear a silk scarf and sleep on a satin pillow case. My silk scarf is really big. I put it in a triangle and it can wrap around the back and tie it in the front. That sucker doesn't budge. My hair comes out soft and it doesn't loose any moisture in the morning.

Me too! But I use a silk scarf and use silk pillowcases. I never knew a type of fabric can actually allow your hair to retain moisture, it's crazy but I love it :drunk:

I use a silk over a "satin". Like a previous poster said,the "satin" is just polyester made to feel satiny. I use a big silk scarf over this,or sometimes it's vice-versa. I have satin pillowcases,but my head slips off them,so i'm getting some habotai silk case from here:http://www.dharmatrading.com/
 
Remember silk is all natural and is made up of amino acids or protein--very good to be wearing on our heads (and in our hair). Although many vegans do not wear or use silk products, there is something called "vegetarian silk" or "Peace Silk" made from worms allowed to live their complete life cycle. :yep:
 
I love my silk scarves from tenderheaded.com. I discovered them in 2000 and have never gone without one since. I even give them out to my friends. I had the pillow case had it for so long it tore. I need to invest in another. I just always hated the crisp satin has... Im just silly like that.
 
I have both. I prefer the stain one because I have a hard time keeping the silk one on my head, it always seem to slide right off. The satin one stays put with having to tie it too tight.

Me too! :wallbash: I paid 13.00 for this sucka and it wont stay on! I tie it in the back,then I tie in the front. I still wake up with my hair uncovered.

HOW CAN I GET THIS THING TO StAY ON ALL NIGHT? :wallbash:

That's why I have a silk pillowcase too. When I wear silk scarves, I pin them to my hair after tying it on (I use Good Hair Days pins). I have a silk bonnet to wear over that, if I choose to. :)
 
I prefer silk. I have always used silk and had my last silk scarf for over 5 years. It finally gave up the ghost and fell apart!! I still have it and try to use it - holes and all because when I first use a satin scarf i could tell the difference immediately when I woke up my hair was not as shiny and it was drier. I can't find any silk scarves near me (the bs stores all have satin). i will check out the sites yall posted. if i had a camera i would take a picture of my faithful scarf.
