So after 6 months of attempting to transition, I have decidied to go back to texlaxing.. (dodging tomatoes) and I wanted to know do you use a reconstructor before or after you relax? Also, do you coat your hair with anything before you relax?

Hey there! No tomatoes here! :giggle:

I'll bump a few threads for you.....

ETA: I use a light reconstructor (Motions CPR) weekly....well lately it's been bi-weekly because of my busy schedule. I use it for my mid-relaxer protein step.

Here's how I coat my previously relaxed hair (copied from my fotki):

To make sure I was able to apply the relaxer to my hair quickly, I did the following pre-relaxer steps:

1) Section hair in small sections.
2) Place clip at the line of demarcation (where the newgrowth and previously relaxed hair meet) in each section.
3) Heavily coat previously relaxed hair with hot six oil.
4) Do a two-strand twist down to the last 1-2 inches.
5) Coat ends with vaseline.
6) Apply vaseline to scalp, hairline, and top of ears.

The week prior to I'll do a Protein Treatment of Some Sort. A day or two before I'll coat my previously relaxed hair with Coconut Oil, Shea Oil, Olive Oil or something.

The day of I spritz my hair with Neutral Protein Filler. I was spritzing it with Joico Silk Results. (A lot of Folks were using CHI Silk Fusion or Apoghee Green Tea & Keratin) but Joico Silk Results is what I happen to have on hand.

I do my Mid Protein Step, After Relaxing Prior to Neutralizing. This time I used Dudley's Hair Rebuilder as my Mid-Step.

In the past I have used:

Joico K-Pak
Nexxus Keraphix
Sebastian Penetraitt
Redken Deep Fuel
Dudley's Cream Protein

no this is interesting. i always thought it was best to do it after in order to rebuild the hair from relaxing

I do a reconstructor after Relaxing and i coat my hair with a cheap conditioner or oil.
