Why is the hair towards the neck the curliest?

Has anyone noticed that the hair towards the back is the most tightly coiled hair that they have?

Why is that?

I'm the exact opposite, the hair towards my back is way less curly than the rest of my hair.

My crown and my neckline are the least curly parts on my head. They are more like loose waves.

When I put my BKT on that part, the back was absolutely the straightest part of my whole head. It was so bizarre. The texture back there is a conundrum.

Actually, my nape is looser than the rest of my hair. I didn't realize that until I went natural.

My hair towards my nape is probably the springiest and easily defined, but it's also a looser 3-something curl next to my tight, tight combination 4 which takes up most of my head. My crown is also quite loose but it seems to be more of a wave there than a curl.

My hair on the nape is the flattest... and very strong and black.

Wow. I'm so different from you all.

Anyway, why does hair have different textures in different places on the head? What's the reason for this?

The hair at my nape is a looser curl pattern and much softer to the touch than the rest of my hair.

The hair around the perimeter of my head is the tightest.

You can have different textures on the head, just like you have different textures on the body. (arm hair vs. arm pit hair vs. pubes)

A few years ago it was curlier than the rest but since it's grown it's almost completely straight (still a little wavy). My tightest is the back of my head but I think that's due to me sleeping on my back.

My nape and crown are 3b, the rest of my head is 3c. I thought that pattern (loosest around edges) of texture was most common -hence the easy slicking of "baby hurr" even though the rest of the hair is curlier.

Would love to know the answer I have different textures not by much but when you get to my neck. Two Words.......TIIIIIIIGHTLY COILED!!

Even now with more than 5 years under my belt of growing natural hair and it is now mid back I can let this mass of cottony wonderfulness dry up and I STILL have a shrunken fro! How is that even possible?!?!?!?!

Mine is 3b/c at the nape of my neck and around my ears, 3b/4a throughout my crown and head, and 4b juuuust around the very edge of my face. Grrrrr.
