How can you REALLY infuse moisture into your strands?

I've found that even with heavy sealing, I'm getting some breakage when I moisturise my hair.

My hair's actually strong when it's wet and has nothing on it.. But when it comes to me spritzing my dry hair and pulling it through, or using conditioner straight (as a moisturiser), I get some broken strands.

I actually go out of my way to DC with heat for about 30 mins, then I sleep with it in my hair (I need to do that for it to absorb). I dilute my shampoos b4 DCing as well.

How can I get the moisture to really stick so I can stop the breakage?

Do you respect the moisture/protein balance of your hair?
Protein by fortifying hair also help hair to improve and keep its moisture retention by repairing cuticules.

Including protein has improved my moisture retention.
Some people that inspired me was long haired ladies like the beautiful woman of hydratermanaturals(shes on here, but dunno her screen name, but "hydratermal naturals" on YT you will find here) some people like her does their protein/moisture balance job daily, like
-using a water spritz moisturizer which contains a lil % of protein, then seal with a moisturizing leavein and an oil.
Since I do that I almost leave in the magic land of breakage, I said almost because I don't forget that ends are the weakest and the oldest part of hair and that hair is DEAD so that can be normal to experimente breakage sometimes, but it's becoming seriously "sometimes" to none(it will only be caused by manipulation, you see?).

Also, as you may notice, overnight DCing is GREAT. one day Nonie says it all : " like smothering your hair in moisture for a night and hair has no choice but to accept the moisture" (talking about baggying)
(nonie you must read a book with all your advices!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
sorry for the long post, but moisture retention was a so difficult affaire that now i've achieving to, Im happy to share what works for me.
:drunk:

sorry for the long post, but moisture retention was a so difficult affair that now i've achieving to, Im happy to share what works for me. :drunk:
@Krystle~Hime -aw, thanks so much.
I have to say, I don't. I really just try to focus on moisture, bcos protein has never stopped my breakage. It isn't severe, but I don't want 10 /20 broken hairs when I'm Moisturising it lol.

My hair also seems to snap immediately when doing the strand test, so I know my hair needs moisture moisture.

Yes that snap test tells you "needs moisture" but after that, there is moisture retention. and one doesn't matter if you can not even retain it !
I used to get this "snap" results. yes I need moisture but I was ALWAYS moisturizing my hair, so why can't I keep it? That's porosity, hair hability to retain moisture and the 1st main 1st role goes to Cuticles !

Im waiting for other ladies'thoughts

Have you tested your porosity? And I agree with Krystle; protein allows for moisture to remain in the hair strand.

I'd also suggest steam treatments. I'm in love with my steamer.

Yeah, my hair is low porosity. I actually attempted to do the home grown steam treatment last week. That's why I don't get the broken hairs (even though it isn't a huge amount). Thanks for the protein reminder.

If i added a small amount of Aphogee 2 min to some water in a spray bottle would this be ok for a leave-in before adding my moisturiser.

This is the only protein that doesn't dry my hair out. Even a small amount of Aloe juice makes my hair hard and with my thin strands that's no good as they snap easily.

This !!!
as a mixologist lol, I directly buy hydrolysed rice protein, and add 5-7% in my spritz water moisturizer. Even silk protein is more sweet, it also helps with detangling as it's so great !! I then follow with whether my leave in condition(no protein in it) & seal with an oil, whether the oil by its own.

I'll co sign steam:yep: but may I also suggest incorporating ceramides (I use wheat germ oil). Also check the ingredients of your products they may contain protein that you are not aware of. I agree SAA (silk amino acids as a protein) is great and can't be overused:grin:

Does she use the protein daily?

Sorry to hijack this thread OP but i actually tried my own suggestion today. My hair was already in individual braids (no extensions) and dry. i sprayed my hair with this mix (Aphogee, water and a little bit of jojoba oil) and then sealed with Castor Oil. I wrapped my hair in a du-rag and my hair was very silky and soft once dried - no frizzing. Usually my hair dries crunchy if i spray my dry hair with a water/aloe mix even with heavy sealing. This is a keeper for me.
On a side note I have some powdered Silk Amino Acid, i may add that to my spritz.

i totally co-sign with the protein suggestion. i too used to believe that protein was the enemy and then i figured out how to strike a balance between the two. i started experiencing breakage but was doing all the right things - washing sulfate free weekly, cowashing mid week, oil rinsing, DC'ing failthfully, moisturizing, sealing, henna'ing, steaming and wearing protective styles- wheh! so i figured the one thing i hadn't tried was increasing protein usage because i had especially avoided it since starting to henna. i guess my point is just to hopefully emphasize the criticality of protein and suggest that you explore that aspect fully before ruling it out.

i can't recall from your OP - are you using a leave in condish? if not, try that to assist the moisture retention as well. HTH :yep:

Bublin -Thank you. I'm gonna try this, but with AO GPB.

I'm at that point now, so I'll try protein. Thanks for your response.

@ the second bolded -yeah, I always use very diluted conditioner as a leave-in spritz, then I seal.

you should !! I do it for now 3 months, I think I can say that im now a long term user !! :yep: and since, I'm retaining length FOR REAL!!!(look at thread i've started, I was crying saying "i think 'ive reached my terminal length, it's been a year i am at the same length :nono: ) and since....

You should definitely incorporate pre-poos into your regimen, especially if you're using sulphate shampoos. I'm also low porosity and use an oil based pre-poo of wheatgerm and olive oil with a 60:40 ratio, i also recently added aloe vera juice into the mix. The benefit is that by the time I go to deep condition my hair already has a lot of moisture.

Other suggestions would be to clarify and protein treat to start fresh and/or add a mid-week wash & deep condition to your reggie
