Basically, I wanted to know if I could put these in and then after 6 weeks take them down. I have been looking and youtube and most of the people that have them are adding them to their dreadlocks or are using them to start their own. I'm just a little confused I want the look but I do not want them to be permanent. I have thought about yarn braids but I think they will not work out for me because it is dry as heck here and that doesn't seem like a good combo.

IIRC, I think @*Happily Me* rocked them after her BC. Hopefully she'll see this and come to confirm and share, or correct me on this.

ETA: OK, now I'm not sure if she ever got extensions or just loc'd. http://www.youtube.com/dsylla#p/u/0/WsfzKno7m0w
Oh OK, she does say they're extensions in comments. I knew I wasn't crazy...or should I say, not completely crazy. Just a bit.

That's cool, I don't want them to stay in though. I just want to rock the look for a while and then back to my loose naps.

I really want them, too! I cannot find someone that will do it. My friend that does braids refuses to put lock extensions in my hair :cry3:

I made a bunch a year or so ago, it took for ever. But I plan on making some more.
There are a couple of different type and several ways of attching them and yes you can take them down after 6 weeks, I think I only had mine in for a week.

My sis put some in hers and took them out 2 years later but she told me u can take them out whenever u want but u may have to do it the way u would regular locks with conditioner and I think some kinda thread needle not totally sure though
I tried to grow locks once smh ppl told me I couldn't wash my hair for a month
I lasted 3 weeks and couldn't take it... Ewww but the extensions should be really cute

This is the latest trend in my town in Nigeria. They first braid the hair and then they sew the kinky twist hair around it. When they get tired of it they take it out but some people keep them if for up to 6 months

Yes you can most definitely take them down whenever you wish, and about not washing I co-wash my hair sometimes 3 times a week it has no ill effects on my extensions neither should anyone as long as they were put in properly ...

Here`s a set :yep:I did on myself:yep: (...so if you need hooking up!?) about a month and a half ago which are still currently in I don't plan on taking them out until December, one of my best protective styles...

But ohhh my how I've missed my hair so much so that there is this one particular lock that I keep on having to redo because I unravel it every so often to play with my own hair and see how I'm coming, sigh I need help...:look::look::look:

Btw these were done using no glue, threads, needles or anythig fancy just my good ole fingers...now for the PICS!

THANK YOU LADIES !

Yes it was, I`d always wanted to try this style, and I normally braid (with various extensions) myself so I figured why not try to do this, so one day I woke up went on youtube watched, payed attention and did simple as that really lol it just kind of came naturally and turned out pretty well for my very first time, took me about 6 hours non-stop I was going HAM...

Since doing them I`ve gotten tons of comments on them about where I got them done, when I say I did them myself they ask me how much I would charge, so I`m thinking I may start doing it as a service in my free time being a darn near broke full time university student and all, and I wouldn't be charging people 3 cows and a chicken either because I know I didn't have that kind of money to pay to get them done by someone else...

I had actually called up a salon in my area she told me $480, I was like errr...Girl Bye :nono:!

Ms.London you did a great job!!

I was just researching these, not to get them myself but I was just interested. And it seems easy enough, after watching a few youtube videos I think anyone could do them. And its a really cute protective style.

I did temporary lock extensions a few months back. I started them just like kinky twists extensions. Braided roots, twist a little, then wrap loose hair back up the braided twist. I don't know if that makes sense. Mine looked awesome, & take down took like 45min 2 1 hr. Please use decent hair, it's worth the investment!
Btw, Ms.London, EXCELLENT WORK!

Great job, Ms.London.:clapping:

I wanted loc extensions but I couldn't find anyone to do it at an affordable price. The salons in my area start at $600 and up. I was even willing to travel to other areas in order to have this done. One place in Atlanta is charging $1200 for APL locs.:thud: That's not including the hair.

I understand that this is a time consuming service but I'll just have to continue searching for an affordable loctician.

Ms.London, you hair is exactly what I am looking to do. I am going to do a set this weekend. Which youtube video did you view to see how to do it. Also what type of hair did you use and how far down did you braid your hair. Sorry for the questions but I need to know ASAP

GodsPromises that`s no problem at all, I actually just caught snippets of various videos by clicking the side links...
But this one had the most helpful close up shots ;-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ad1gDQWZ45w&feature=related

I used the marley braid, about 4 packs, I moisturized and 2 strand twisted my natural hair because leaving that loose was a disaster waiting to happen, then I used one single piece and braided it up to the entire length of my natural hair I wanted it well protected...

And then I fagged out the piece I was about to wrap around it so I would look more natural and set easier I didn`t use any braid sprays, wax or I wrapped it tightly around nice and dry and then looped it and backtracked up the braid, after I was finished I oiled my scalp and sprayed in some leave in moisturizer...

I just took them down today actually my hair grew about 2 inches in 3 months I was pleased!

Hope that helped you need even more detailed info just shoot me a personal message.

QueenBrittny, Sure more curlies the merrier!
