I wanna compare my straightening regimen to everyone else's to see if I can cut out some steps because mine is an all day affair, sometimes two days. :ohwell:

And if you do something out of the ordinary, can you explain why?

Prepoo & detangle w/ EVOO
Shampoo w/ Aussie Moist Poo (rinse in sink)
Towel dry
Use Clear Cellophane/Black Rinse
Sit under dryer (20 min, rinse in shower)
Condition w/ Aussie 3 Min & Roux Porosity (rinse in shower)
Add a tiny amount of Suave Coconut then a little Elasta Foam to dripping wet hair
Spritz with diluted Lottabody and Elasta Thermal Spray as I go along
Rollerset from back to front
Sit under dryer (30 min) then airdry overnight
Rub in a small amount of ORS Serum then flatiron in sections (330°F-front & back, 350°F-crown)
When hair get old, use Carusos to refresh

Now I've only done this three times this year so it's not too bad, but I plan on flatironing most of the fall and winter and I don't wanna do the whole process. It does give me swangy, shiny results though.:ohwell:

I only shampoo every once in a while (1-2x/month). Other times (if it gets kinky before the week is up or sweaty) I co-wash from wed., thurs., and fri. or at least the latter two days. On Sat. I dc-on dry hair with either nu expressions, aubrey hsr/gpb, or lekair chol./tigi oatmeal and honey cond. (either of the three are all combinations of the conditioners and oils.

I steam for 30 min-2 hours. Then cool and rinse. Then co-wash again.Apply leave-in (aphogee green tea or nu expressions) Either air dry (in plats), rollerset (hair dryer or air dry), or blow dry in sections.

Next I (apply pm super skinny, if I haven't already) and flat iron in small sections at 300-325 degrees.

Takes me most of Sat. because I don't have much else to do and I drag it out. But it could probably take all of 2.5-3 hours (since i'm only sl, but it has gotten much thicker since switching to nu expressions by bronner bro.)

a little off topic but I just did a flat iron with shea butter after shampooing and d/cing for 30 min. and my hair feels absolutely wonderful. It's soft, moist, has mad shine and moves. Moisture the day after flat ironing has always been an issue for me, but this has made the difference. It didn't sizzle or smoke or anything either and really all I used was a tiny amount. I don't know if this was wrong to do or not, but man I love the results. One day I will learn how to post pics up in here.:perplexed

Did you airdry first or use a leave-in under the shea butter?

My straightening routine:

- Thoroughly rinse and saturate hair with water; step out of the shower
- Detangle: Tresemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture/Suave Professionals Almond & Shea Butter
- Chelate: Quantum Clarifying Shampoo
- Shampoo: Elasta QP Creme Conditioning Shampoo
- Protein Treatment: Aphogee 2-Minute Keratin Reconstructor (let sit for 10-15 minutes)
- DC: Hairveda Sitrinillah/Shescentit Banana Brulee (with heat for 30 minutes; let sit for an additional 30 minutes)
- Rinse & gently squeeze out excess water
- Leave-in: Lacio Lacio (use sparingly)
- Detangle and allow to air dry in four sections/braids (when semi-dry, loosen the sections to hasten drying time)
- Once dry, apply a small amount of Sabino Moisture Block (original formula) to each section
- Flat iron (at 350 degrees using no more than 2 passes per section)
- Style or place in a loose up-do/ponytail/bun with the ends tucked in
- Successive Maintenance: Qhemet Biologics AOHC/BRBC (pea-sized amount as needed)

HTH:yep:

-section hair into 8 sections
-shampoo with kinky curly come clean
-aphogee 2-min keratin reconstructor
-deep condition with bamboo silicon mix overnight (on a friday)
-after I rinse the conditioner, I do not towel dry my hair
-apply sabino lok&blok to each section the size of a dime and use a denman brush to distribute the product evenly (my hair is fine)
-blow dry on low heat or roller set
-flat iron with maxiglide on 8 in small sections

I learned that the straightening technique is important. For me, if I straighten at around an 85 degree angle, the finish product has a lot of movement and the roots dont revert easy.

and VOILA! soft bouncy hair for a week!

This is a pic of the time before last time that I straighten my hair (March 20, 2011) :spinning:

I wash, DC or HOT, rollerset and sit under the dryer until dry, take the rollers out and add a little moisturizer. Then I comb hair into a wrap and put a plastic shower cap on and a satin scarf on top of it (Saran wrap method) and sit back under dryer for 10-15 minutes. Comes out straight but sometimes I have to go over roots with a flatiron

Mine is pretty simple and straight forward, I wash and condition my hair the morning before then I put it in a bun no products added, let it air dry all day and night then the next day I section it in four sections and press each section out and I spray a heat protectant on prior to each section of hair I press. That's it at night I wrap my hair and sleep with a satin scarf on.

Dang mine looks so pathetic. Lol Im relaxed though. I wash and will DC for as long as possible maybe even protein for a few minutes before. If I do not have time to airdry I will blowdry on cool air then start to flat iron with Proclaim Glosser.

I use a light protein (Aveda Damage Remedy) on the day I plan to straighten, and a heavy protein a few days after (Joico K-Pak).

1. Use a gentle SLS free shampoo, one shampoo only
2. Apply light protein to hair and sit under steamer for 15 minutes.
3. Rinse and remove as much excess water as possible then apply a moisture rich DC for 30 minutes
4. Rinse with cool water
5. Apply leave in, heat protectant and serum
6. Rollerset
7. Unclip rollers then use clips to clip the curls back into place
8. Straighten roots only.

If I straighten the whole length which is very rare, I'll rollerset with big rollers, wrap gently then straighten.

I do this only on shampoo days.

Ricebran oil/olive oil/coconut oil pre-treatment (HOTS) 30 min
Elucence Shampoo
Aloxxi Keratin Treatment conditioner - 30-1 hr w/heat cap (until I get another steamer)
Cool rinse

air dry 15-20 mins. (I do not have porous hair)

dry using a FHI blower and paddle brush & round brush for my roots
flatiron using FHI runway

If I need more shine I will use a drop or two of Camellia oil

I'm a KISS and it works for me. I only flat iron 3 times a year or less. Only once this year so far. I will again in Dec. For a length check.

I DC with Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masquw for a min of 1 hour while I cook or clean do my nails or something like that. : )
Rinse out DC and finger comb as much as possible.
Section into 4 sections do a lil more finger setangling.
Apply CHI silk infusion to each section and braid.
Air dry.
Undo each swction one at a time apply a teeny bit of CHI again and flat iron.

That's it.

I need to get like you. My only problem is I love jet black, shiny hair when I flatiron so I can't cut of my rinse. And blowdrying makes my ends feel rough so I have to rollerset.

naturalTAN Have you ever tried blowdrying on cool? Its supposed to seal and lay down cuticles so your hair wont feel rough. Ive noticed since I discovered cool air my hair is much softer compared to when I do it on all hot air.

I usually blowdry on warm. I think I'll do a patch test on my crown because it's the most difficult to straighten. If my ends come out nice, then I'll give it a try. Do you still get swang with blowdrying?

Thanks for the suggestion. SuchaLady

I do actually! All I use through the entire process is glosser and its never weighed down.

shampoo 2x
detangle and add serum
blow dry straight as possible
press with presing comb at 400(if bone straight results are wanted)
flat iron at 365 with 2-3 passes with pressing oil

Napp,

Do you still use 400 with the hot comb even though you're relaxed now? (looks so good btw.)

And are you the one who uses Apex Pressing Oil? I've been on a wild goose chase and still can't find it in my local bss.

Dang. I need to step my ish up... I don't have a straightening regi. I suck at straightening my own hair. I haven't flat iron my own hair in about 2 years. I only got it straightened when I used to go to salons... I don't even know how long my hair is now. :-(... Well, thanks for this thread. I will be taking notes now.

Mobile phones are sexy too.

Napp, please share your new regimen. Thanks in advance!

Shampoo with Mizani Thermasmooth Shampoo
Condition with GVP Hair Reconstructor (Joico K-Pak knock-off)
Let my hair air dry throughout the day, banded or stretched in some way.
I detangle, apply Mizani Thermasmooth Smoothing Serum, and flat iron very small sections.
After I'm done, I put castor oil on all of my hair.

ETA: I'm natural.

Since I only get it done once or twice a year I have it professionally done. It takes to long for me to do it anymore and working 12-14 hr days I am just not up to it anymore so the splurge is worth it for now. My stylist is also natural so I have compete reversion...her technique and process is protective...
