First things first, I'm a newbie, so hayyyy errybody. Secondly, I have a dry scalp problem that I need resolved pronto. I wash my hair every 3-5 days, and probably within the last year I've noticed that my scalp would still be dry as the Sahara desert. The only couple of things that I can think of is that I am getting older (which I will only admit once, and I'll deny it if you ask me if I said it:lachen:) or my regimen has hit a snag. I blow dry my hair 95 % of the time so that can be a problem too. In the words of John Witherspoon, "Hep me please!!"

Regimen:

Shampoo
Rinse
Condition
Rinse
Leave in Conditioner
Blow dry
Flat Iron

*My products vary so I can't post those*

The only thing I see is you might be washing your hair to much. Which will strip your scalp of oils as well. Try cowashing-replacing one of your wash days with conditioner only.

Are you on any medication that can be contributing to the dryness?
I know you say your products vary but can you give us an idea of what you are using?
Have you considered trying and staying with certain products for a while to see if that helps versus switching product?

So I'm wetting then putting the conditioner in it? Or am I doing it dry?

I'm not on any medications, but I had been using Optimum Care Oil Therapy for a couple years, and it was fine up until a year or so ago. I just tried perfect results medicated line, and i washed my hair with one n only argan oil line a couple days ago. Hair is wonderful, scalp is still dry.

You can do it either way. My suggestion would be not to apply it to your scalp or that residue from the conditioner will upset your scalp even more. Conditioners are meant to leave a coating behind, and I think you need to let your scalps oils do their job by not getting in their way.

Drinking water and consuming omega oils (oily fish or supplements or flax) can help too.

I'll try that, thanks Noni!

Haaay mandii! Welcome to the board!

Basically you're shampooing your scalp too much and drying it out. Most of us only use shampoo once weekly while others go longer to avoid the dryness of shampoo.

If you absolutely must shampoo that often, you should consider adding a pre-treatment of some sort to your regimen. You could add conditioner or oil or mix them together and sit with a shower cap on for 30 min before you shampoo.

Also, when you put "condition" on your regimen, did you mean deep condition? Because blow drying an flatironing every 3-5 days could begin to take a toll on your hair if you're not counteracting it somehow.

I would cut the blow drying and flat ironing all together at least until
Your hair is healthier. Also Are u using a sulfate free shampoo? Sulfates may be irritating and drying out your scalp... Do u relax because I notice u color your hair and double processing can be a no no I would also suggest with sticking with one product for every hAir "step" u use and not just throwing whatever on your hair because u might not know when something is not working for u hth

Unrefined, extra virgin coconut oil did wonders for my scalp.

A few months ago, I faced this exact same problem. I started putting coconut oil on my scalp before shampooing and problem solved. I have not seen one flake all summer. :yep:

You can find it at GNC or Vitamin Shoppe. Good luck!

Definitely cut out the blowdrying. Airdrying before flat ironing will give you the same results without drying your scalp. :yep:

Co-sign on what the other ladies have said about pre-pooing, ingesting healthy oils and cutting back on shampooing. :)

Do you oil your scalp?

How much water are you drinking per day? Hydrating your body from the inside can work wonders.
