My hair is shoulder length straight one year after the big chop. My natural hair is really really thick. Even when I straighten it is a struggle to fit it into a big scrunchie. I dont know what to do because when it is unstraightened the front is wavy and the rest is a fro. I'm at my wits end. I need prayer. I dunno.

From your post, it doesn't sound like you really want to relax. It sounds like you don't know what to do with your hair as far as styling goes. I am also a year post BC natural. I can't bun my hair because it is still too short. I am currently doing 2 strand twists in my hair until the end of the year. Have you tried any other styles? How have they worked out for you?

Dear God

Please give humility1990 the patience she needs to deal with her half fro' Lord...God we know you did not put more on us then we can bear so please bind them hairs up in a scrunchie Lord so her styles can be more versatile ...I ask that you help humility1990 relax her hands instead of her strands if that is your will dear father. Amen

It sounds like you're frustrated. Wait. Don't do it yet. Are you frustrated because it's not styling like you want it to or do you find it too much to deal with?

I relax because I just don't have time to deal with all this hair and my dd's hair daily. Figure out what's frustrating you and try to get suggestions on that. If you don't see a resolution and think relaxers are your best out, do it.

I just don't want you to relax and regret it because they'll be no turning back. Good luck on whatever you decide is best for YOU.

:giggle: omegachick31 Y Y Y LOL :giggle: and why did I just type :google: Dag LOL

YOu have been given wonderful advice.

Don't relax because your frustrated. Each has their own battles.

Natural hair has it's own battles
Relaxed hair has their own battles

So before you do anything please have a cool off period and wait and if you still feel that way after that then do what you must. :)

i never understood why naturals who want to relax feel like they need to make a thread asking if they should relax or not as if they need confirmation from the board. if you feel like relaxing your hair will make it easier for you then relax it.or maybe you just need to find a style that will make managing your hair easier.have you tried braidouts or twistouts?go on youtube, google, or sumthin.youtube is your friend.

I think it's because if they relax and don't like it, they would have to start completely over. I don't believe it's for confirmation but moreso about options. Maybe they think someone will offer some advice that can turn their hair around or fix a problem that they thought just "came with the territory" like ssk.

Love your hair btw niqu92

Sometimes you can receive good advice from threads like this. She's not asking LHCF for permission to relax!:lachen:

It's just since lurking on lhcf since 2004 length has been my goal. Last year I'd turned 20 and realised that I'd always wanted to experience being bald so I did that and just left my hair to grow. I get tired of twists all the time and if I want to wear my hair in a semblance of a fro then I have to blowdry the kinkier sections or give texture to the wavier sections. My hair strands are thick and perhaps that is when even when my hair is straightened it doesnt last more than a day even at high heats. I am at my wits end.

Your 20/21? Girl, do what you feel like doing. I too was experimenting with my hair at that age. You know what you need to do to go back natural, and you know there are tons of info avaliable. Do whatever makes you happy and free. Good luck op!

Humility, if you want to relax, it is OK. You need not explain why. We will support you and help you best we can. Are you going to a salon to get your relaxer?

I don't have any specific advice to give, but I say do what you feel will give you the greatest gain in the long run. Don't go for the instant gratification. That last sentence sounds like I'm for you staying natural, but I totally know the pain in the neck styling/detangling natural hair can be. Giving this issue more time to stew in your head can't hurt.
Good luck!

Don't do it! If you happen to live in the NYC or Atlanta area, I can make some recommendations for wonderful stylists that can help you through the rough patch. Don't give up though!

wait a little longer and make sure you aren't doing it on a whim. if you choose to texlax so you have the best of both worlds wearing your hair curly or straight.

I agree with this. :yep: You're young and need to experiment a bit to see which one is best for you. Have fun and let us know what you decide!

It seems like part of your frustration might be the legnth of your hair might not be affording you as many styling options as you'd like. If that's the case then maybe you should take some time and figure out if you'd be able to handle your natural hair the way you'd like once it has grown some more.

But if you also like wearing straighter styles more often, and your finding it difficult to do that, then maybe relaxing is a good option for you. Especially if you're at a point where handling your hair has regularly become an exhausting chore instead of something to experiment and/or play with.

Just my 2 cents. Either way, you should do you.
