You should try coconut oil, it's light, easily removed with shampoo, and actually scientifically proven to strengthen and thicken the hair shaft. After a wash I soak up excess water with a towel and rub coconut oil through my locs while they are still damp...leaves soft and sheeny. Just rubbing coconut oil in your hands will liquify it.

I use conditioner out of habit but coconut oil alone could replace it. I use extra virgin coconut oil btw.

Thanks. I use coconut oil on my son's hair like a conditioner - I even detangle with it in the bath. I keep thinking about using conditioner but it's really not necessary

You don't get build up from the conditioner? Do you use a cone free one?

@leiah
No, I don't get build-up from conditioner. I make sure to rinse really well.. would probably be even better to dilute the conditioner with a spray bottle but I haven't bothered. Build-up comes mostly from waxy gels and pomades, conditioner is water soluble.

I use conditioners with cones, anything from salon grade to drugstore that makes my locs feel soft. I also wash my hair once a week with a sulfate shampoo so that probably kills any build-up. Funny, I never would have used those products as a loose natural (sulfates? cones? blasphemy :lol:) but now that I have locs I'm more concerned about deep cleansing, plus my scalp is oily and I have no trouble retaining moisture with my locs.

I've been using the same basic regimen since I started locs 4 years ago - sulfate shampoo + moisturizing conditioner + coconut oil + Bioterra styling gel (Sally's) and my locs are now long, healthy, and moisturized...

Raspberry, yes I do. Best thing I've ever done for my hair. Like you I keep it simple. Wash, condition and olive/castor oil. I have to laugh sometimes because I catch myself moaning about my hair growing too fast... That most certainly didn't happen when I was loose!:lol:

I am in the process of starting my locs right now. I am starting mine using the bradelocks method. I did the front of my hair first and now am working on the back moving up to the crown of my head. Thanks for your support @ lovinlocks.

I saw a woman with the most lovely locs the other day...:congrats: to all the ladies starting or continuing in this journey!

:bump: Any updates? I'm seriously thinking about trying to do my own loc extensions within the next 2 weeks.
