Hello ladies. Just got some Aloe Vera Juice to make the Kimmaytube leave-in conditioner but the bottle is so darn big and I only need to use a little bit at a time. So I don't want the rest to go to waste. I am currently transitioning and am 14 weeks post. Any suggestions on what else I can use it for?

Sometimes I add Aloe Vera juice to:
+ Leave-ins
+ Deep Condition
+ Detangling condish mix

I use it for a prepoo following Chicoro's method. This is absolutely essential in my regimen.

Ingredients you will need:

In a bowl mix

· ½ cup of aloe vera juice or whole leaf aloe vera

· 1-2 tablespoons of your favorite oil (wheat germ, olive, safflower, walnut etc)

In a separate Bowl melt

· Food grade coconut oil (1/4 cup)

· Sit the bottle or jar in hot water- do not put in microwave or on the stove!
Remember, everyone's hair has different needs. You may need more or less of this mixture. Or, your hair may not like this at all. None of these will irrevocably change your hair. Thus, you just need to wash out the mixture if your hair doesn't like it.

1. Using your fingers, separate your hair into 4- 8 sections. If your hair is caked with hard product, rinse your hair first. Gently handle the first section. First, smooth the hair in a downward direction. You are just trying to make sure that all the hair is going in one direction. You don't need to completely detangle the hair at this point.

2. Dip your hair in the bowl of aloe vera and oil or cup your hands in the mixture and transfer it to the section onto your hair. Work it through. Get the aloe vera/oil mix into your hair from root to tip. Make sure it is moist throughout the sectioned hair. If your hair is long enough, twist it and wrap it around like a bantu knot. If it is not, try to twist it and move it out the way. Repeat until you have done this to each section.

3. You should have a head full of aloe vera mixed with oil twisted sections. Go back to the first twist you did. Undo it, pour the liquid coconut oil in your hand and work through the section. Re-twist it and repeat on whole head. Place a plastic shower cap on your head for 15-60 minutes. Your moisturizing pre-poo is complete!

Wow this sounds Yummy! Especially for my daughters' hair who are both natural. I don't have coconut oil :( do you think I can use castor or jojoba oil for the aloe juice mix and then use olive oil to replace the coconut oil? Otherwise I will just have to get some coconut oil which I don't mind because I am such a PJ lol :lachen:.

ajargon02 that is funny you mentioned that because I was thinking about drinking it since I was reading the same thing about it's benefits for the body. Does anyone know how long it keeps in the fridge after I open it?

i add it to my DCs or cassia treatments, or use straight as a moisture spritz/leave-in, or mix it with water/rosewater and oil when i'm trying to stretch it out.

I use the gel. I also use it in Chicoro's prepoo, in diluted shampoo and in Chicoro's leave in. I use a lot of the leave - in so I am making a new batch every week.

Refrigerate it and it will last quite a while. I don't always refrigerate it and my house is warm and it lasts just fine.

I didn't think I would like using aloe vera at first but over time I am finding my hair likes it and it is great for moisturizing mid week.

It should say on the bottle, but if it doesn't, as long as it's in the fridge, mine is usually gone in 30-45 days. In MOST brands, there's citric acid (if I remember correctly ) and that's a preservative, so it keeps the yuckies from growing in it.

The only thing that I would check to make sure of is that it does have the citric acid. Not only does that help with pH, but like I said it's a preservative. I add it to most all of my drinks (in small amounts) and many of my hair concoctions in moderation. I love it!:yep::lick:

ajargon02 Woo hoo just looked and it does have citric acid! It's the Lily of the Desert Whole Leaf and you are right it says on the bottle good for 45 days after opening lol! Thanks so much!

I use the gel for in my leave-in mix. I mix glycerine, castor oil, almond oil and aloe vera gel together

In my morning drink
In my Moisturizing Aloe Water
In my lotions (my family's skin have drastically improved since using this in combination with the water phase)
In my hair creams (my hair is always soft using after sealing with these)

Newbie2Beauty: Sure use whatever you have on hand or what your hair likes better. I've experimented with different oils for this mix, but my hair loves coconut oil so I stick to it for the mix and sealant.

I mix it in about everything from
-henna
-DC
-spray mixes (Kimmay leave in, mane n tail, megatek....)
also, drink about 2 oz every morning mixed in juice

Aloe Vera Juice is one of my holy grail products. Like the other ladies I use avj in the Chicoro prepoo, and the Kimmaytube leave-in. A friend on the board taught me to add distilled water to the leave-in for my spritz, and if I need an extra moisture boost I'll dilute the avj and pour it over my hair as a final rinse after co-washing. Since incorporating avj in my regimen, my natural 4A/4B hair has become softer, smoother and stays moisturized for days.

I drink it straight for cleansing. I also pour some into a separate spray bottle and use it for daily misting of my hair when wearing it natural.

I was thinking of using it as a daily spritz just wasn't sure if I could thanks for the information.

I am going to pick up a bottle of Aloe Vera Juice tomorrow when I run my errands. My hair has really been acting strange lately so this maybe just the thing it needs.

I use it with honey for a facial mask. I pour it in my conditioners for ph purposes. Aj has turned my hair around.

So once you mix it into a product, do you refrigerate that product until you use it up?

Since mine has an expiration of ≈10 days, I use a mixing bowl for any product mixing, and keep the spray bottle in the fridge.

CrownCola, what brand of aloe vera juice are you using? It should be lasting more then 10 days. IDK, you might want to check out a different brand or something, cause that makes me nervous that yours would last such a short time. I would be afraid that it wouldn't be good for my hair if it's goin bad so quick. :nono:

I have a question:

Is aloe vera juice one of those ingredients/products that will behave like a protein?

Aloe juice + vegetable glycerine + grapeseed oil in a spray bottle. I use it on my wash and do before I use my Shea Moisture. I also use it as a daily moisturizer on my daughters hair.

AVJ is a great detangler. Before washing I spray my hair with AVJ and the tangles seem to disappear, love it. I also add it to conditioners.
