Hi, What are you ladies doing to have moisturised new growth while stretching?

If I put (leave-in)conditioner and oil all over my hair, the texlaxed part will feel moisturised.. maybe even too oily; while my new growth sucks it all up, but still feels kinda dry.

What kind of things do you do? More product? Less product? Oiling your scalp? Vitamins? Even sealing with vaseline :look: didn't work.

Some ladies "juice" with S-Curl or Wave Nouveau or similar. This can be very effective in ensuring those roots are always hydrated.

I use heavy moisturizing SE Megasilk and leave it on for 2 hours or more. seems like my hair likes longer DC's during my stretch. Also I use Aphogee 2 minute weekly as I see I need more light proteins :)

I spray SAA on mine (during DC and as leave in) to keep them silky and better able to retain moisture.

For me I use NTM and seal with an oil, my roots are pretty good if I wash weekly. I also got the tip here to use NTM to detangle the roots and it works like a charm for me. I DC every wash so I think that helps my roots not being so dry.

I am going to use Nix08 method in spraying SAA on the roots the night before relaxing.

When my newgrowth is on and poppin', I really up the moisture in my routine by doing more cowashes during the week and overnight baggying every other night. I also start using Mane and Tail Detangler after washing because that stuff just melts all my tangles away.

When I hit around 12 weeks post, I dc once a week (I usually do 2x) because I just don't feel like doing all the sectioning to get the dc in all the cracks and crevaces of the ng. However, I take much longer to dc during this time. I will try to let my dc sit on my hair for a few hours first, and then sit under the dryer for at least 30 minutes to really let it penetrate and soften my hair. Check out my blog here on LHCF where I outlined exactly what I did when my ng was kicking my butt during my last stretch.

This is why I use an applicator bottle.

My last stretch was 4.5 months. If I DC every week and cowash when needed, I keep my roots and length happy. But DCing takes care of everything.

sunnieb, I need to start doing this. I'll check out your blog too. Gorgeous hair in your avi (and siggie:yep:) btw.

bb09 Yes I have the powder so I put it along with water and lavender oil in a spray bottle and spritz my roots and the length of my hair. Silky:grin:

Oh! I have silk peptide powder, but it just won't mix (and with water)! That sounds so nice though

My new growth gets dry too so I up my oil pre-poos during stretches...I mix JBCO and Peppermint oil in an applicator bottle and apply it to my scalp weekly before my shampoo wash. It also helps to avoid sulfates (once a month or so for clarifying)

Yep! The applicator bottle is a good idea. :yep: I have two of them. I used them for a while filled with my dc's, but got tired of it. I haven't used them in about a year.

I use an applicator bottle to apply my DC (I use Redken Butter Treat), but I also DC overnight. I never DC for less than 8 hours after I hit about 8 weeks post.

keyawarren -How exactly do you use an applicator bottle??

I section my hair into 4 parts.

I always saturate my ends first!

Then I stick the nozzle in my hair and just squirt. I keep doing this at different angles.

I squeeze product into my palm and smooth it down the length of my hair.

I massage my scalp. Do a little detangling. Anything that distributes the con into my hair.

I hope this makes sense.

keyawarren, thank you. That does make sense. I was just wondering if you had to dilute the conditioner, or cut the top off the applicator (bottle)? I guess I'll just try it.

This applicator bottle thing sounds like a good idea. Also you can get the refillable condiment bottles from stores similar to Walmart/Target

I am goint to try getting it into the applicator bottle like this: put it in a ziploc bag and then cut then squeeze it into the applicator bottle.

If you have a sallys near you they have the applicator bottle that have the flip closed nozzle so you can always keep it upside down; this way the conditioner will not get stuck on the bottom

bb09 Have you tried to put the oil and moisturizer directly on the scalp where the new growth is? Sometimes it also helps to moisturize the scalp right after your shampoo and DC while the hair is still wet.

I got the bottle from a BSS (probably Sally's...don't remember). Therefore the hole is big enough to let the conditioner through. Actually, I do dilute my cons because I DC and cowash on dry hair most of the time. I don't dilute if I've washed my hair first. Using the bottle has been more accurate and less time consuming. My routine can't go w/o it

Right Now I'm using Hydratherma Naturals Follicle Invigorator.

I like to use a Spritz and then a Moisturizer and then Seal with some sort of Oil.:yep:

Actually, I don't put anything on my length that I don't put on my new growth. Ummm oil, conditioner. Never thought about :look:. Maybe I should ? lol

Hairveda Whipped Cream Ends Hydration, mixed with a little bit of water to thin its consistency, place in spray bottle for ease of use, then part and spray my new growth and massage it in.
