Hey guys

Im slightly panicked. Over the past year, I've been losing a lot of hair. My hair is forever split even though I tend to keep it in weaves. I am always keen to retain the protein/ moisture balance. I do everything pretty much by the book. Basically I kept doing the things that got me to 3 inches before bsl. Now I'm just past shoulder length because I shed sooo much! My hair does not look the same it's brittle and just eugh and so I keep cutting.

Ive had my hair in a weave for three weeks. Is this normal hair loss?

Prior to that, I took a picture of one section of my hair that I cut off, how horrid! :(

I'm natural and totally at a loss. Going to the doctors tomorrow because my nails are horrid as well, very dry and brittle. I'm not as consistent with my vits as I should be but i don't think that explains all the issues I'm having.

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through this or who has any advice. Im almost tempted to cut it all off but if I do have a problem I'm guessing the shedding won't stop :(

OP, I almost started this thread yesterday. I'm faced with identical issue and will also be going to the Dermatologist this week. Oh the Irony... Thanks for starting this thread though. I will be keeping my eyes out for answers.

For me, I started noticing a lot of shedding when I started using MegaTek... I can't say for sure it's what started it because I started taking some bc pills around the same time. Ever since then, my hair has never been the same. Idk if it's some hormone imbalance or something, but I really hope it's just lack of protein. Fact is, I really have not been keeping up with protein treatments. I'm getting a bkt tomorrow and I will go from there. Hopefully my shedding should cease. OP, keep us updated with this.

The head sheds about 100 hairs a day and when when the hair is braided/weaved up the sheds hairs collect so when take down it will seem a lot. Also shed curly hairs will seem a lot that straight hairs.

sorry to hear that hun, also glad i am not alone! my hair has not been right since i bkt'd! the last time i did was this time last year. i do my protein treatments and alternate with moisture as well. At a loss now so definitely going to the doctor tomorrow. i mean, i touch my hair and many long strands come out:nono:

thank you, the thing is my hair is noticeably thinner than before so it seems like my shedding is more than normal

That looks like normal shedding considering that it's been 3 weeks. But if you're really concerned, you can try taking a garlic supplement or adding rosemary oil to your deep conditioners. I've read that black tea rinses are good at curbing shedding. HTH

ETA: Perfectil Skin, Hair and Nails helped my nails grow longer and stronger. Normally, my nails don't grow very long but now they're growing like weeds.

TBH, I don't know. It looks like your ends are thinning but I can't really tell from that picture. Is that how the all your ends are like? It might be how your hair is braided up under the weaves, perhaps?

ETA: Looking at the pic, it might be heat damage. Do you use direct heat a lot? Or have you recently overdone it with the direct heat recently? (e.g. straightening the hair too slowly so it burned)

no just the leaveout (i bkt'd that section a year ago and it just gave up the ghost) the rest of my hair needed a trim too but the situation was not as dire as the leave out portion. Cut off 2 inches though. im just really bummed because i should be bsl by now! instead i have to keep cutting and dealing with shedding!

This makes me feel sooo much better. Lol I usually have my hair braided underneath my wig... very low manipulation for about 3 months. For some reason, after I get my hair straightened, it doesnt seem that bad. Maybe my stylistic manages to get rid of all the shredded hair? Still, I shed a lot.

Then it looks like the bkt damaged the hair
I know it's easy for me to just say cut it off but it feels like your hard work will go down the drain. I'm in a similar predicament. I stopped trimming for a couple of months and my ends suffered so I did a cut to shoulder length. But then I noticed over the months that the middle of my hair was getting thinner. I suspected cross wrapping but ignored it.... I should have listened to my earlier suspicions because I was right. The middle is slightly shorter than the sides  I've decided to keep trimming with every relaxer but trim the sides more. Eventually it will even out. Maybe you can do that to your leave out?

i actually cut 4 inches from the leave out:lol: i just couldnt bear it ( just look at that atrocity lol). however i left the rest and only trimmed two inches off. I hear you though, hindsight hurts. I thought i could do the trim once a year thing. Ive only just caught on that that will not work for me and i need to trim more regularly. I hope your hair turns out well x

Try trimming every 3 months. That's what I used to do and my hair loved it. Sometimes, it's good to do what you normally do (if it's working) and not follow everything on LHCF
Anyway, hopefully, you can resolve your issue.

when I first started with Megatek, I experienced more than normal shedding. However, I read that with any "growth aid" you can expect more than normal shedding for the first 4 to 6 weeks. So I expected it. Within 4 weeks, everything was back to normal. Using garlic and or alter ego garlic condish also helped.
