Where do I belong..... with Pics!

When it comes to hair typing? I'm trying to prepare my hair and myself for the next phase of me becoming natural. I'm trying to step away from the heat and trying to find products that my hair loves....

Soooo am I 3c, 4a, or 4b?????

Thank you for you answers and comments.

ETA forgot to add pics :)

it looks like to me its too early to tell. the curls in that first pic dont really have any definition but i bet they will once your hair grows out more.

by the way, i don't know if i'd consider that loose piece to be something to base typing on. it looks much longer than the rest of your new growth which doesnt really make sense if it were your natural texture.

I'm trying to let it grow out more. It's about 5 to 5 1/2 inches long with 12 months of growth.

looks like you're in the kinky girl club ---> 4b (welcome to our world)! We have so much to tell you :)

I would say post some pics that aren't so close up so we can see the size more accurately. Of course we are all just guessing here, and you would probably be the best person to judge your hair since you have actually see it in person. I would guess 4a though, but we need more pics. :)

You have to wait until you cut all your permed hair off or the straight ends you have...that can weigh your hair down and make your texture appear "looser" than what it really is.

But from the pictures you are definitely in the 4 family.

You don't need to know your hair type to find out what products will work best or to move to the next level in your natural hair journey. It's trial and error and you won't know which products work or won't work until you try them. There are people who know their hair type who it seems have been stuck at the same length for years. And there are people like me who don't know their hair type but have made great progress.

Thank you ladies for your posts. I'm just trying to know where I belong so I can get style options, what works for some but not others in that specific hair type, etc. Regardless of my type, I want my natural hair to be healthy and strong before I become fully natural....

I think that you are a 4b. Definitely a type 4. I say this based on how close the camera is and how magnified the pics are in order to see the small coils you have.

Good luck on your hair journey.

All of this is not based on "hair typing." Hair typing only pertains to the aesthetic appearance of your hair and nothing else**. The things you need to concentrate on are the porosity, density, and strand size of your hair. Those things will help you out in the long run better than any hair typing classification system ever will.

**Anyway I am more bias towards the LOIS hairtyping system because it describes the hair more accurately

Please explain the LOIS hairtyping system. I never heard of it.

Find Your Pattern:

L - If the hair has all bends, right angles and folds with little to no curve then you are daughter L.

O - If the strand is rolled up into the shape of one or several zeros like a spiral, then you are daughter O.

I - If the hair lies mostly flat with no distinctive curve or bend you are daughter I.

S - If the strand looks like a wavy line with hills and valleys then you are daughter S.

You may have a combination of the LOIS letters, possibly with one dominant. If you cannot see one letter over the others, then combine the letters. Example: LO or IL or OS..

Find Your Strand size:
A strand of frayed thread is about the thickness of a medium sized strand of human hair. If your strand is larger than this, then your hair is thick. If your strand is smaller than this, hair is thin, or fine..

4b with some 4a looks to be my hair type. Like everyone said I have to cut the relaxed end off to see the real curl pattern. Right now my edges and back of my neck are without relaxed ends. When I was I will compare those to other hair pics. I notice that there isn't many mixed 4ab type. What's up with that!!??

I just can't wait till I'm natural!
