This is one of the best times of the year for trimming one's hair. March 20th is also a full moon and the perfect time for thickening. March 22-23, 26-27 are the dates for lengthening. Can you say super growth . This will be the first time this year that I will actually completely straighten my hair out. I'm so friggin excited :yay:

I remember reading about this in older threads. How long have you been doing this and can you say you've seen results each time? TIA!

By the way, your hair looks super healthy and shiny!! Love it!

I did it the past year and saw more retention in 1 year than I'd seen throughout my hair journey. Here's the link to my progress pics:

I was highly skeptical but then I remembered that my mother used to trim our hair according to the lunar calendar and my hair was about TBL as a child.

? Does this even work?

I think it might, but it sure doesn't hurt to try. There's also a fotki member by the name of Creolequeen who's gotten really good results from it as well.

kblc06 I'm about to take advantage and I'm just as excited as you. This will be my first time as an adult trimming by the lunar cycle. When I was a child my family swore by trimming by the moon.

I can only hope to have retention like yours. :yep: Your hair is beautiful. Do you rollerset all the time?

OP please explain. When you say good days for thickeningor lengthening, are you supposed to trim on those days if you want that desired result?

Not all the time. But I used to rollerset much more frequently than I do now. The only time I rollerset now is when I plan to flat iron my hair. My arms have gotten tired

Yes, you trim your hair on those days that you want to gain a particular result

Last year I trimmed on the Spring equinox on a whim and I'm not sure if it helped but I like that it helps me to remember when to trim. I like to either trim every 6 months or every 3 to 4. Depends on how I feel. I last trimmed in January for root work- I didn't plan on that trim but since it fell within those days I went ahead with it.

I use this website https://morroccomethod.com/en/lunar-hair-chart. When I make my trims more regular I think I'll just follow that for ease.

I'm seriously considering bc'ing & going natural again during the spring equinox. I think it would be the perfect time. I'm a little scurred though because my relaxed hair is now sl but I liked my natural hair better. Why did I relax in the first place? decisions... decisions. Maybe I'll just trim & see where I'm at during the summer equinox.

I think I will trim for the summer solstice in June. I like this concept simply because it gives me a nice schedule to stick too, and track progress.

I agree with this.

I never thought about trimming for the spring, and I don't really need one but I'm hair adventurous so I think I'll try it and see what happens.

I trim my hair by the new moon (in specific months). I don't plan on trimming again until July though (which is a good month) and on the new moon of course (as it's ideal for growth and july is a fertile month which increases growth).

My grandmother did this, so I see nothing wrong with it, superstition or not.

Does this actually work? I'm in need of a trim anyway. But I was just wondering if anyone has gotten great results from doing this.

Never heard of this but I'm getting trimmed and the back layer cut tomorrow. YAY for good timing.
soooo am I gunna get a mega growth spurt or something from this magical cutting time?

I do all S&D, Trims, and Dusting by the Lunar Hair Chart. I made a promise not to trim or snip until after the next hair update.... But I will be dusting for this Spring Equinox. This is the biggest full moon episode since 18 years ago. The acupuncture equivalent effect for any type of cutting this time is very beneficial. So I'll be dusting.....

What if you desire thickening and lengthening? Do you have to pick a date and roll with it and forfeit the other as it would make no logical sense to trim twice - thickening and lengthening day.

Since I do a search and destroy over the course of a few days, I will do my S&D on Sunday for thickening and then clip the hemline about 1/4 to 1/2" for lengthening. I don't plan on doing such a thorough trim again until late summer.

Funny...heard about it before, sporadically over my lifetime...never tried it though. But I've been S&Ding all day in my box braids because I didn't have the patience to wait and do it after I took them out :lachen:. My son told me as we walked the dog this evening that a full moon was coming soon and it didn't dawn on me that I could use this opportunity to at least track when I do my "trim".

Well, my braids come out tomorrow and I will seek and find my ragged, split and mamed ends. Who knows if it will actually do anything, but since I've been cutting all day what difference does it make, right?

One thing is for sure...at least now I know that I won't be the only one attacking my hair with the scissors this weekend...

I just got home from getting my ends trimmed at Master Cuts (1 inch). They really needed trimming. Now, I'll use the Nexxus ProMend to keep them healthy.
