I just randomly clicked on one of the Hair Rules links on the side (which I never do) and clicked on the "Kinky" section just to check it out and saw this. I've never used these products and don't (think I) plan to, but omg...
How the HECK did they get that second style? Is that a twist-out?
If mine looked like that, no one would ever be able to sit behind me in the movie theater for the rest of my natural-born life.

Even though she has thick hair, I have seen other thick-haired ladies do twist-outs and they've never come out like this!
I figured they may have stretched it with a diffuser but I also notice that people who diffuse tend to lose some definition and shininess just by stretching. Her hair is perfect! Stretched, shiny, super-defined... I'm in love!

that is a bantu knot out. they key to getting this look is to normally start the bantu knot by twisting until the hair coils upon itself. then once you get about 2-3 inches from the end wrap the hair flat against the knot, using the knot as a 'roller". let dry, separate and fluff and you will have a similar look. the more hair you wrap flat against the knot the more it will stand up when you are done.

I'm sorry but that looks like some Photoshop trickery to me... Look carefully at the first two pictures... Something in the milk aint clean...

P.S. Its not that I don't think hair like this is possible for black women I just think in this particular instance from the hair rules site.... We don't believe you, you need more people...

The first pic does look like some work was done to it. I LOVE her hair in the second pic! I believe its a straw set but the height comes from a fan. The third pic does seem like it may be too short but since there is some "trickery" with the first two pics, that may be her real hair *shrugs*...

Regarding the products, I have tried them. I really like the sudless shampoo. It cleaned my hair witout stripping it. The conditioner and leave-in are nothing special but I probably would buy the shampoo again.

Oh, okay! I see what you're saying. At first I was wondering what you meant.
I guess that makes sense though because they use a little bit of trickery on the other kinky model.
The "before" pic is clearly a blow-out/picked-out fro, which I guess they use to suggest her hair has no curl pattern, but as soon as the water hits her hair, you see that she has 3c/4a hair.

It's not? That's how I do mine. I twist them too before I knot them to have more depth to the curls.

The pic does look good but those $$$$ products did nother for my 4a/3c hair or my daughters 4b hair. It just made it a dry mess.

I scoured that site like a crazy person looking for a video on that before I posted here! That's how I came across the video of the other model that goes from "kinky to curly" (ie. blow-out to WNG )

I'm also kind of mad that the "kinky" model is the only one that has to change the state of her natural hair. The others are "curly to curly" or "wavy to wavy." Why can't she be "kinky to kinky?"

this is not how i have seen them done by most...they are usually twisted completely to the end which gives a different effect. thats why i think of it as an "alternative" way. its like rolling the hair on a spiral rod/curl former vs rolling on a flexi rod. i noticed the best bantu knot outs are done this way

im starting to get confused now! there are quite a few differnt ways to make knots.its kinda hard for me to explain in text...the best way i know how is "you wrap the end against your hair as if it was a roller"... i love bantu knots. they have so much variety! i just hate how my hair seems to dred in them after a while

Naw partner I don't believe the first two pics. If my fro was that big as in the before picture I would be at least between BSL and APL if it were straightened. On top of that, for that thick compact fro, her hair would be way more thicker than it is in the flat ironed pic....heck, in the shingled pic too...

All of it is fake....

You can also get that spiraly look (well without it standing up) twisting your hair around a curling iron, or if you dont want heat, around a roller. I've always liked the look of a bantu knot out, but it takes forever to dry on my head. Found a vid on yt where a lady used chopsticks to do it, so i tried it out on my maniquin, because my hair's braided and it came out the same way.

You twist your hair like you were going to do a bantu knot but instead of making a knot with the hair you wrap it around your roller or curling iron.

I can't find the video I was looking for but this gives the idea. You would just uses smaller sections to get more of the look of the OP's pic.

I love the before and after pictures. I think that the curly picture may have been done by using a curling iron. OR it could be that the afro and curly pictures are both wigs.
