hah i remember i had never seen a fully black woman with hair that long. i was so impressed.

feel free to share your own blast from the past

I remember this! I heard they were a scam or something. I used to stalk Wanakee's site back in the late 90s.

Girl, that is MY REGIMEN. I found Brenda's website in 2001 before I ever knew hair forums existed. I have talked about it more times than once. I downloaded her report and followed it and grew my hair from one inch to 9-11 inches in two years following her regimen--and that is with trimming my hair religiously every 6-8 weeks and not using moisturizer leave-ins whatsoever.

After I joined LHCF I tried to adopt some regimens here and ended up having to chop off 2 inches to get my hair back to normal--which is when I learned not to fix stuff that isn't broken. I had no reason for changing my regimen. So I returned to Brenda's regimen, and it is what I use to this day, except I added DCing and ACV rinsing. I also misunderstood it when I read it and left moisturizers out of my regimen. I still prefer to leave them out because when I did, it didn't hurt my hair, as long as I followed her other directions.

I love me some Brenda. Yeah, I paid $20 for her report, but I didn't know I could get info online for free, and it's one of the best investment I ever made for my hair. Thanks to that report, I don't find myself pulled this way or that way by every "new theory" that comes along, nor do wonder products get my attention.

And no it was not a scam
. Basically Brenda struggled to grow her hair long as many of us did, then she had an epiphany on proper haircare--which might be common knowledge to all by now--and decided to share it with others for a fee. There are many who learn from this forum then charge people for that info when they publish it, so I don't see what's wrong with her getting a piece of the pie too. I never could get my hair to grow past 5-6 inches until I found Brenda's site so I'm a true believer and uber grateful.

So if you're lurking Brenda, thank you!

Me too! Well I had seen some but they were always folks who always had long hair. Brenda's escape from the chains of short hair really inspired me to download her report and I'm so glad I did. I still have it filed away somewhere.

And I find her hair impressive (not so much the diving one where it looks thin) but all the others where it looks so full with ends as thick as can be.

ETA: I don't know if I would have downloaded the report had I found LHCF first. But then again, people do buy books on haircare after finding LHCF. Oldies write books and instead of just reading what they posted before or stalking their channels/albums, folks buy the books...not to mention products...so it's hard to say.

Well Cathy Howse said it and we all know she's a hater. She threw shade at Wanakee too:yep: I never downloaded it though.

:lachen: Cathy should speak! She who doesn't just give info but almost makes you feel like you should be using her stuff if you're to get the best of the best. Brenda wasn't selling anything but info. Besides the report, I never gave Brenda any more of my money and she didn't hate on everyone and have this chip on her shoulder like Cathy. Cathy should sit down some place with her see-through ends.

Oh and while you sitcho a$$ down, Cathy, I would like to thank you for introducing me to DCing and laying down info on protein in hair and just for laying down the foundation that made LHCF easy to navigate and not so overwhelming. I have passed on this info to a few newbies who didn't know where to start: that your book is a good place to get the basics then LHCF can build on that. So you see, I'm not all bad. I do give credit where credit is due.

Girl, you've gotta learn to sift the good from the chaff.

I was just interested in knowing what it is she did that was different from what I'd done so far that could help me grow my hair long. I ignored all the other stuff that was clearly not the "secret to long hair". But DCing with heat was new to me as was a realization that protein treatments are a necessary thing for hair. Other than that, Brenda had already hooked me up so the rest was just noise.

Cathy did scare me with her "moisture moisture moisture" sermon...and I almost bought into her "do not trim" gospel (despite Wanakee's and Brenda's imploring to make it routine--which I had been doing for 2 years before LHCF). But after 4 months of Cathy's moisture and no trims, my ends started to look like hers, even w/o heat, and I returned to my trims and bare hair that always felt clean to me. It made sense that moisture was good, but I had gotten accustomed to getting it from my washes, thanks to Brenda, so I returned to that and I've never looked back. (I'd like to mention that a friend did point out to me years later that Brenda's report never said not to use moisturizers or leave-ins.... She was right, but habits are hard to break--especially if they make you happy--so I continue in my misguided ways.)

You may not have to buy her book. IIRC, her FAQ (click on questions to get answers) on her website sort of echoed all that was in her book. Her book won't tell you anything that isn't already shared here. That your hair needs both moisture and protein, and that DCing with heat is the way to get products to penetrate your hair. Then she tells you not to trim. And yeah her products are made with all the important "points"/ingredients she just mentioned. Oh yeah, and don't believe anyone else; they are all scams.

If you've never been on a forum though, or if this is your first time on a hair forum and you really don't know much about good haircare, then the book does break things down for you in a way that makes LHCF more resourceful to you coz you won't get information overload without a clue where to begin. You'll come here knowing what your hair needs and so can search the forum for specifics instead of being hit from all sides with info.

ETA: If you're easily irritated by typos and grammatical errors in published work, then take a Valium before you start reading. But if you can turn a blind eye to them or hold a stress ball as you read to squeeze when you see them, then you'll be OK. :p (If you're lucky, there's a revised edition without errors.)
