Garnier BlowDry Perfector damaged my natural hair :(

I used this product about 2 weeks ago and im still recovering from the damage, I went on youtube and searched "blowdry perfector on natural hair" watched video's and read reviews before i tried it, but I was not prepared for what my hair had to go through.
I read ALL the directions carefully , my hair was in GREAT condition, no breakage, healthy, etc...I put the product on my hair for about 6 minutes ( it says to leave it on for 20) I went to touch my hair and it just started BREAKING OFF!! i went to wash it out and my hair started coming out in CLUMPS , I spent forever trying to wash it out. my curl pattern was GONE, my hair was breaking off so much i was in shock , i couldnt believe it, I worked so hard to have healthy hair (no heat, low munipulation, etc) and all that was taken away in 6 minutes!!! luckly my hair was not breaking off at the scalp area so i was able to let it air dry and pull it back in a pony puff and the damage is not noticable because my hair is relativly thick.
I ended up having to cut off about 2-3 inches of hair . Im deep conditiong and mixing castor oil with my moisturizers and my hair doing MUCH better.
Im not going to bash this product because have seen this product work for some people. Its just not a product that worked for my hair. I have researched a couple of blogs where the same thing has happen to MANY other woman, some woman are seeking legal action against garnier because of this.
Overall i learned my lesson and im glad that i didnt have to end up losing all my hair over this

Yikes! I am so sorry that this happened! There is another thread on here about people deciding to leave both Garnier and Neutrogena hair products alone because they can break off hair. I hope you can join with those women and seek legal action. Thank you for warning others.

The product almost sounds like BKT. It's supposed to keep the hair "sleek" for up to 7 washes. Good thing you didn't keep it in any longer. The damage could have been much worse. It contains proteins so you may want to up your moisture the next few washes.

OP: Do you color your hair? Do you henna?

This might be caused by incompatibility with other products in your hair. There was a thread on this product a while ago. It was clearly stated that this product could potentially "dissolve" relaxed hair. I know you're natural but the reaction you describe is similar to what happens when you mix henna + chemical color that contains metals, or thio-based relaxer (Japanese straightener) + lye/no-lye relaxers.

WOW! I am sorry to hear about this happening as well. If I were you, I would highly recommend taking pictures of your hair after the damage....and if U you can dig up pictures that show the same sections PRE-use. Then, CONTACT the company behind Garnier (check the box). At the very least, you should be able to get your money back on the product. But more importantly, THEY (the company) does take consumer complaints seriously (trust me), so take the time to place the call. When you call, have the box handy as well as your receipt.

Wow! I'm sorry that happened :hugs:
I tried it myself and didn't have breakage but it made it extremely difficult to detangle and blow drying my hair was worse than before I tried it. My hair did have some split ends and I had colored it a few weeks prior so it could have been a lot worse for me. I'm with the other girls, maybe you should contact the company or seek legal action.

Whoa. I lost interest in it after someone on here broke it down chemically and it sounded like a relaxers to me. It is crazy that they are able to market chemicals concealed under different names.

I am so sorry to hear this. Thanks for sharing though, because it may help a fellow LCHF'er-
my daughter is natural and she used this product. Luckily, she did not have any breakage, BUT every time she washed her hair her hair reeked. It smelled like chemicals so bad. Didn't matter whether her hair was wet or dry. It was supposed to wash out in 6 washes, but lasted much longer than that. Here I am thinking her results were atypical. I did not realize this products had so many complaints.

Oh no OP I am sorry to hear this. I"m glad you didn't leave it in the full amount of time. What in the world is this stuff? I agree w/other posters. I would contact the company especially if you have before pics. Is there a warning on the product? Did you do a strand test?

in response to the blowdry part I didnt even get to that part yet , I'm speaking with a lawyer now, I have pictures, I have the hair that broke off, i have my receipt i kept everything so im going to see what happens, and yes i contacted garnier and they acted as if they had no idea what i was talking about , YET i saw online many other woman have contacted them and gotten the same "confused" reps...I will keep you guys posted.

This product has NOTHING to do with BKT, other than the fact that they both claim to be temporary straightening options. A routine comparison of ingredients and the method of application should clear that up right away.

The actual active ingredients in this (Garnier) product are actually also used in permanent waving solutions. That, and the fact the it's a two part product (alkaline activator followed by neutralizer) should tell us something.

It a weak thio like product. The cysteine which is the active ingredient acts like a thio product( think jheri curl or curly perms for type 1 or 2 hair) sodium hydroxide in it is making the ph alkaline but it is not the active ingredient nor is the sodium nitrate.

Garnier Herbashine made my hair fall out at the root. After the fact, I read lots of reviews on makeup alley saying the same thing. I wonder if their products are tainted.

This sounds like every natural's nightmare- using a relaxer disguised as another product. :burning::burning::burning: I can't even imagine! I'm so sorry this happened to you, but thank you for bringing this to our attention. Thank God you only lost a few inches and nothing more.
