Do you use glycerin in the winter?

...That can use glycerin in the winter? Its in the 40's here in Alabama. I did a test, half of my hair w/o glycerin and the other half w/ glycerin. The side w/ glycerin is touchably soft :lick::yep:

Anybody else juicing for the winter?:look:
 
i use african royale braid spray all year round on my hair. I apply it daily before i put on my wigs and i've yet to have a problem....and i'm in illinois where the winter is long and hard.....
 
I use it glycerin year round as well., most of my favorite products have glycerin in it. I just do what I can too protect my hair from the elements so I'm good.

Oh I didn't even think to use the african royale that's been sitting on the dresser for years:lol:. I can't handle the scent for some reason, but I didn't know it was glycerin based till recently.
 
Living in a humid place is your saving grace. It's not the cold weather that will get you, but the lack of humidity that can make glycerin not be your friend.

I would be nervous about artificial heating drying out my hair during the winter months.
 
I try different things. Always trying to simplify. I'm experimenting with S Curl
for myself starting tonight. I reset my hair in twists with it and just put some olive
oil over it. I plan to see what happens in the morning.

Howeva, I voted YES in the poll because:

My son puts S Curl all over his li'l fro then olive oil just before he takes a shower
in the morning. That is, if he didn't baggy the night before. If he baggied, then
he just uncovers his hair before jumping in the shower. He doesn't like to cover his
hair when he goes out because it messes up the fro yet he comes back from
school with soft happy hair.

He's 11 and used to come home looking all pickininny and dry when I tried other
regimens for his hair. This works the best along with oil rinsing once a week.
 
I use glycerin all year round. Like you, my hair is dry as crap without it. Even with lower dew points my hair stays soft... sometimes I think people give glycerin a hard time when it is not the glycerin that is not working for them but the overall product ingredient mixture that is at fault.

You know what? I couldn't figure out why s-curl and Carefree wouldn't work for my hair. But my hair loves 1/4 or 1/2 vegetable glycerine with water:yep:
 
Yep...african royale has glycerin in it... i don't really care for the scent but the smell tends to dissipate over the course of the day and its great for stopping the itchies..........can't be sitting at work all day patting my wig and looking crazy lol

I use glycerine all year round and I accidentally voted heck no. I thought that was in response to the question, Am I the only one who uses glycerine in the winter? Long Aid is my baby daddy. Whenever I stray, my hair my be soft, but not as softs as it is with glycerine. I I also have a spritz with about 1/3 glycerine and 2/3 aloe vera and water. i live in LA. I think that may be the reason why though.

Actually, I've never heard of long aid, but I'm sure it works wonders for you(your siggy says it all lol)
 
I have been using S Curl on my ends and I have no complaints. I do wear a plastic cap and hat when out in the cold (My head is never exposed to temperatures that fall below what's normal to someone who grew up in Nairobi), but indoors, S Curl works fine for me.

This is the first winter I'm using any product on my hair. I have always just had braids and worn my hair bare--still under a cap/hat or wrap when outdoors.
 
I use to use glycerine and water all the time until I came across other products that worked better for me. but I do need to get some for someone else who hair is another type then mines.

yes ma'am i have:yep: Twice actually. The day before yesterday I was out with my dad trying to get my car fixed. We went a couple of places before going back to the garage to get the car. Then I spent some time out in front of the walgreens looking for a movie in redbox. Yesterday, I ran quite a few errands. I remember having to roll down the window for a while b/c I had worn my big coat (its wasn't extremely cold yesterday and I didn't have enough gas to turn on the A/C:look:).

But besides this, I remember in '08 I would spritz my hair with my water and veg glycerin mix. I would walk to my classes on campus and I bascially spent significant time outdoors throughout the entire school year. I stopped using glycerin in the winter b/c I heard it would make the hair hard. I barely listened to my hair, but took everyone's experience as truth for my hair. I have officially moved away from that mindset:yep:
 
My glycerin usage depends on the dew point outside (not humidity), and the formulation of the product in question. If the dew is below 30 and glycerin is in the first four ingredients, it's a no go - I've tried it, and I get dry, straw-like hair.

Otherwise, it's fine, but I also don't use glycerin in dew points over 65 or so, because then my hair will be overly moisturized and frizzy. Thankfully, in LA the dews have been in the 40s-50s, which are perfect for me to use glycerin. But when I visit the DMV, I leave my glycerin products at home. Interestingly enough, I never have issues with other humectants, just glycerin.

I don't know what city you live in, but I just checked the dew point for Mobile, Alabama, and it was 54, which is an optimal temperature for glycerin use. Lucky you! :)

And you would be correct! Just checked B-ham and it's 28, which is pretty low. That is the same as the DMV right now, and the other day I tested a prod with glycerin on my hair and had to wash it right out!

NC here, 20s, 30's and 40' degrees. I use glycerin in my leave in/moisturizer and my hair is soft. I do use oils and water based products along with it though, so that may help too.

Whats weird is my hair still felt touchably soft today. I think my hair is madly in love with glycerin :grin:
 
I just purchased some glycerin last week. I mixed some in my home made shae butter gel mix and my hair is soooooooooooooooooooooo soft! :shocked::shocked: I don't know why I've been sleeping on this!
