I am not the one to usually complain about a hair service but I think this is a bit over the top. I have been going to my stylist for five years and love her to death. I go because my hair does well with her and she knows what I like and we vibe. I wasn't too happy when she told me this afternoon that the cost of trims have gone up. When she told me what it would be I really wanted to say no thanks but needed the trim (get on every 11 weeks at my relaxer) and don't like uneven ends. I can't blame her because she doesn't set the price. The salon she works which is a franchise does.

All she did was trim a few of my ends and I had to pay $50.00 for it. I looked on my ticket and it said cut. My hair is in the same style it was when I walked in. What cut did I receive? The cost of my relaxer ends up being $90 anyway after it's all said and done. Now I will be paying $140. I don't balk at $90 because I paid more when I lived in Boston and went to a well known salon. This just doesn't sit right with me. Looks like I will need to see someone else after my relaxers now for a trim:ohwell:

$51.00 dollars for a trim. I think you need to either 1. Find a new place to trim your hair or 2. Learn to trim your hair yourself.
You said all she did was trim but charged you for a cut. Why didn't you try to clarify what she actually did to your hair b/c a trim and cut are two different things.

That is just ridiculous! I would have been heated because $50.00 is a lot of hard earned money to be paying to get your ends clipped! You should get a split ender. I have to admit that I was skeptical at first but it does the job. I paid no more than 20 dollars for it. It trims 1/8 to 1/4 inch off. Please do not let that shop trim your ends again!

no that's far too much money for a trim. unless they are using Cleopatra's unearthed scissors, i would go elsewhere as well

WTH?!
I've walked in to a random salon and gotten $10 trims.
Get outta here!
And there's a HUGE difference between a trim and cut. She trippin. You need to ask her why she charged you for a cut.

Just to be clear, you went ahead and paid $50 for the trim even after she told you what the price would be?

No can do. I don't play hairdresser with anything beyond rollers, shampoo and conditioner. I have been told that $90 is a bit much but have paid more than that for years at my former stylist. I like the results so I set money aside specifically for my hair as it's one area in my life I don't cut corners on.

Agreed. Will be seeing someone else in another salon for my trims from now on.

:lachen: You would have thought I was seeing a big time New York stylist or something. I love her to death but this is wrong on so many levels.

could you clarify? are you saying she told you a trim was $51 before she cut it, and you still sat down in the chair? As in you were aware of the price? She didnt just trim your hair, and then charge you $50 for it after the fact?

That's just too much. But I would have corrected that reciept to say TRIM instead of CUT just for GP. Cause that sounds a bit shady.

From what I hear (I'm a DIYer and haven't been to a salon in years) that's the average price for a trim at a high end salon.

Is it a high end salon?

That is way too much. Did she specifically say the exact amount the increase would be or did she just say, "the price is going up?" If you didn't know the exact price I think I'd have had to talk to the manager when the receipt came.

Girl you better go to SuperCuts, MasterCuts, The Hair Cuttery, Head Start Hair Care, etc. to go get a trim!

I've never paid more than $10 for a trim.....

OP you are not addressing the questions. Why didn't you ask why it was listed as a cut when you got a trim. I would expect a cut to cost 51 but not a trim. Are you now too embarrassed to go back to ask for a price adjustment?

Where did you get Split ender for $20 bucks.

I would have walked out of there with my raggedy ends and my $50 sitting pretty in my pocket. Then I would walk across the street and pay someone $10 plus tip to clip my ends. While I am on that side of the street I would buy me a milkshake or something. :look: I would still have $30 left to put in my piggy bank.

Ditto for me. There is this one stylist that does the best trims for $10. I normally clip my own ends...I can buy two good pairs of shears on sale for $50.

Haven't addressed back because I have simply moved on. Besides it was just a vent. Must admit a few of the responses are quite colorful lol.

You moved on....from the thread you started? Instead of getting offended, I think the lesson from the responses is that while $50 is too much for a trim, next time, if a stylist quotes you a price that you think it too high, don't agree to it. If he/she charges you more than you agreed to pay or charges you for a service he/she didn't render, then you should speak up for yourself.

I don't see what's "colorful" about that.

I've frequented multiple "high-end" salons where cuts were $50, but NEVER trims. So that's not a justification. The same places that charged me $50-$55, still only charged $10-$15 for trims.

I'll cut your ends for $25! PM me! LMAO

In all seriousness why in the world are you cutting your progress away every 11 weeks? If your hair is uneven in 3 months then maybe you should look to more protective styling. I'm scared of scissors and haven't had a real haircut since 2007 so maybe I need to be quiet.
