So i have been wearing my hair in a flat-ironed rollerset since Thursday before last (I guess about 1 1/2 weeks). I just washed, hennaed, flat-iron my hair and then put flexi-rods on my hair this weekend again.

So I'm dropping my son off to my mom (she watches him while I'm a work), and she asks me if I relaxed my hair. I proudly told her No, I just straightened.

As I turned around and went downstairs I was beaming ladies. I just felt like her asking me if it was relaxed felt good b/c I meant I did a good job on my hair. I didn't take new pics but my hair basically looks how it looks in my siggy. Maybe a little darker since I indigoed after hennaing this time around.

I think I really want to keep this up for the winter. I want to try to make my way to a Dominican Salon though sometimes, just so I can get a rollerset instead of flat-ironing, and cut down on some of the heat. I've tried and tried to rollerset on my own (I used to do it all the time when relaxed), but I cannot get these 4a's to wrap around the dang roller and stay put.

But anyways just wanted to share. It felt soooo good to fool my own mama.:grin:

Have you fooled anyone close to you into thinking you had a relaxer?

Come on now you know you can't post this and not show us pictures! :ohwell::lachen:

Yes I get this comment sometimes when I straighten my hair. My co-workers will sometimes look at me in horror (they know how transitioning almost drove me mad) and ask if I got a relaxer LOL My hair gets pretty straight with just a rollerset. Now if the temperature goes about 65... you pretty much know I have natural hair since my hair turns into a big frizzy poof.

Does the henna help with getting your hair to be so straight? I'm 8 months post and I want to be able to get a really straight look. Do I need to incorporate henna into my straightening regimen?

I personally think it helps a little. B/c when I hennaed just be itself, no straightening, I won't say it loosened my curl per se, but my hair did seem easier to work with. the thing i really like about the henna though is the shine my hair seems to get from it. Well, that and the Brimhagi (sp?) oil.

Yes that means you did a heck of a job on your hair :yep:

My mom has been asking me for years if I put a relaxer in my daughter's hair (she's 13) and even though I tell her I just flat ironed it she continues to ask anyway. My daughter has a mix of 4a & 4b and I guess some people don't believe it can get straight without a relaxer.

:needpics: Sorry OP...but I'm :lick:

Aw, you guys, not the "this thread is worthless without pics" smilies. You mean the siggy won't do?

I have some pics I took today after Maria made her comment (although I was unsure if I was going to post them). It was the end of the day and the curls had fallen, but I still like it. Now, I'm feeling all self-conscious, like I should have kept my good feeling to myself. I am nowhere near on the same level as some of chicas, but I'll get there. Here are my pics. Not the best, taken with my camera phone. Still trying to figure out out to capture the light.

Don't be such a tease. More details :lick: What products did you use to get your relaxed-looking hair, mama? Do tell!

Oh, and congrats. I know that was a delicious moment for you! :yep:

There really isn't much to tell.

Washed my 2 days prior to straigtening. Put a light oil in afterwards and just wore my hair in a sort of prairie roll style the next day.

After work, I Hennaed and Indigoed my hair the night prior to straightening. I ended up sleeping in conditioner b/c it was so late by the time I rinsed out the Indigo, I was just ready for bed. Oh and I didn't use any special conditioner. It was one of the V05 milk ones. I can't remember the name right now. I think there is a picture of a peach on it. I And I also put some brahmhai (I know I just messed up the spelling) oil in my conditioner that I got from the Indian store when I got my Henna. I really like the oil. I apply the conditioner using the relaxer method (shoutout to Westndnbeauty) So I riinsed that out in the morning.

Blow-dried with a comb attachment. I used to blowdry doing the stretch method and also with a seperate comb, but those are a no-go for me. I had to go out and get a blowdryer with a comb attachment and I love it. Oh yeah, I used a little sabino's before blowdrying each section (4 sections).

Then I flatironed with my Maxiglide, using a little more sabino's before doing each section (4 sections).

Now my hair straight is nothing to write home to mom about. I mean it is okay, but my ends aren't on point yet. So that is why I love the rollerset. The ends are curled and spiraled, so you can't tell. I did trim 1 1/2 week, so I'm trying to not touch scissors again until March or so. We'll see. I should have a lot more hair then I do, but I think I get scissor happy.

So anyways, I put the flexirods in pretty much right after straightening. I have about 10 rollers in my head all together. Sleep in them overnight and take down in the morning. Separate a little and go.

So funny b/c I have my straightening technique down and I'm still working on my curly hair. Either it is defined and dry or moisterized and undefined. While I don't mind the undefined, sometimes I actually prefer it. But it is frustrating when you are going for a specific look, but you fall short of acheiving it.

so you did your whole head with just 10 flexi rods? I thought about buying them once but put them down out of fear. -fear of spending more money on something I may very well use only once.

your set looks good though!

Only 10 and I could probably get away with using 8. But I don't really have thick hair, so if your hair is thicker you may need more. And if your hair is thicker or if you want to use less, then you may want to go up the size. I'm really no expert though, so maybe some other ladies who them can say better. Either way, I don't think they are a waste of money.
