Since discovering this website I haven't used any heat and I try my best to protective style. When I first met the guy my hair would usually be up in a pony or out. I never bunned or braided.

Now I've started to do braids, he hates it. He says he feels like a child molester anytime he looks at my head. I told him about this site, and he was like... can't they teach you styles that aren't the same as 9 yr olds. I didn't wanna tell him, this was all me... so I just nodded and agreed.:yep:

Sorry ladies, but I had to look cool for my man. I was like.. I know tell me about it :look:

Ofcourse I NEED Ya'lls help.

I know you guys love a pic, so here's a lil one.

ETA: Just like bonnet girl, I'm mixed with indian... I swear my grandmother is 'blackfoot''

just kidding, Ofcourse I'm fully black... just wanted to have a ''bonnet girl'' moment

maybe you could pin the braids into an updo? or twists into an updo? but i think buns are a good PS and dont look childish...if you really wanna wear the braids then maybe you could wear the braids and then when you're going to see him do a braidout or braidout pulled into a bun...i know ppl are about to go in and say you shouldnt care what a guy thinks lol

Well how many braids are there? It looks like you only have 6-8 braids. IMO that is a number remnicent of a child's hair style. I've seen the same number styled into updos with hair toys. That may make it looks more mature, if that's the look your going for but can I just say this........ He needs to quit trippin. it's your hair, and women can do what ever the heck they want with they hair. If you and he both know you sexy and that you are more than worth his time regardless of your hairstyle, then he will get over it!

Well you hair is definitely long enough to bun and there are a lot of different buns you can wear. You may also be able to flat twist it into some some styles that may look a little more adult. Not sure if you know how to cornrow but there are many cornrow styles you can wear that still will look nice.

And to spice it up maybe switch to some low mani styles like twists outs to vary it up.

I know some style specialists will have more for you.

Your hair is so pretty in your sig. I bought a wig with curls like yours. :)

I agree. With the other ladies as far as styling options. Also, is keeping off the shoulders or other ways of creating friction considered protective at least a little? If so, you could wear it up, but still be loose and "flowy".

Chocolatelove2010, I particulaly like those types of braids, and even having them just like that, theres a lot you can do with them. I've always liked this actress, the Mother on the "Thats so Raven" Show, who wears those same types of braids, sorta medium sized, and she finds all types of ways to wear them. Here check her out:

What if you tried just doing two braids, one on either side? Or you could try a nice updo with braids or twists...check out this video...:)

Fast forward to 4:27 to get to the styling part.

Ya hair is beautiful!! I think you should bun dat, sweetie. I think your hair will be really cute with a big nice bun and maybe leave some of ya curls out in da front kinda like a side bang I think it would be cute kinda like in Leesh's thumbpic. I'm in the military so I wear buns like 99% of the time and love em.

I came in here to comment but the GIF did me in. I got sucked back into laughing about the original thread and can't get my thoughts together. *Standing up in my purple panties leaving this thread and walking out the door*

bumpppppp him....I tell any dude who has an issue with my hair the same thing... "unless u plan on doing my hair for me I suggest u let me wear it how I want 2 and stfu" I say ..roccccckkkkk onnnnnn witht hem plaits.. whip ya hair back n forth.. dangit! or u can do updos.. or braid outs.. oh i forgot :lachen: which one of yall made that a gif already???

As a disciple of the hair Guru Bonnet girl I'm highly insulted and disappointed at your open mockery of her. Maybe if you were Indian or white you wouldn't have this particular problem. According to the Hair bible chapter 1:6 " Those AA and other non-mixed black people will hate you because of your good hair." Based on that alone I know that the message and prophecies given by my guru will fall on deaf ears. I never knew until now that black people could be so ignorant and unaccepting of other ethnic groups. And to think that I was willing to take time from my all expense vacation with Bonnet girl to provide you with a solution to your problem. I hope that you have fun with the pedophile.

Perhaps you should try a braid out, french braid, Bantu knots, or a bun.

Girl yo man is so crazy....come'on a nine year old child...Sorry I have to disagree

Now if he would have said "Da Brat" circa 1993, well then a discussion could ensue....j/k.

Your hair is cutsey and besides isn't it customary for First Nations People (and all descendants) to wear plaits in their hair...I mean since you are blackfoot and all or just got black feet, either way.... do you!

Thanks ladies! ... I need to get my canerow and twists game on. My options of protective styles suck. Well.. I guess with practice I'll get better (hopefully)

I was on youtube checking diff styles out.

YouTube - Mini Twists ~1st Attempt

I really like this one so Ima try it out

hanna_light - Please forgive me. I spoke to my grandmother and found out I do have indian me. I mean look at how my hair lays down. Wait wait *brings mother to the computer* Mum tell 'em (mum typing) ''Yeah we are mixed with indian, I've been natural for 7 years. Never had a relaxer... My hair is so soft.'' I told Ya'll we're MIXED. I spoke to my auntie, she likes mexican food. So we're part Mexican too. It makes sense why I have a strong connection towards hispanics. IT's because I am one. Anybody tho thinks I'm crazy.. you don't know about the Pangea. Everybody came from Africa. It would take 10mins from New Jersey to Africa... Sorry Ya'll I got a tear coming. I'm getting emotional. EVERYBODY IS AFRICAN.. that explains why white/asian.. all colours like hip hop.

I'm a bit of a lurker but thought I'd respond. I wear my hair in 7 or 8 huge twists, similar in size to your braid in the first pic. When it's down, I look about 8 years old. When it's up, it looks very mature. I don't make parts in it. I pull my 7 large twists up like I'm gonna do a high ponytail, roll it like I would a french roll, tuck the ends, and clip down into a bun. The end result looks something like below. the front is usually parted on the side and swooped after setting on purple flexirods.

the style does look child-like...

i would pin it up..and get creative with styling options...i agree with hubby....

I do too....
Honestly, I think it does look child like..... Sorry, I was tooo busy distracted by bonnet girl

That is the problem I'm having. I look like a kid...with gray hair.:look::sad: I don't want to use heat, but I hate how I look in twists.

I can't tell how long your hair is, but maybe you could try some of the styles I try. So I did put my braids in a fork the other day:

You could wait until the braids dry and then do a braid out in a loose bun. The braid out may help keep it from tangling us much as it would totally loose, and putting it up will keep the ends off your clothes if that worries you.

You can also do coil buns:

You can leave bangs or side pieces of hair out, maybe a twist out on those parts, to soften the look.

i don't think braids themselves are childish. but 10> big fat braids hanging loose definitely is a style that should be restricted to children.

i think if you really like them you should do an updo or pull them back.
