So, I went out last night with friends. My Hispanic friend with bone straight hair reached up to run her fingers thru my hair and the look on her face was priceless!! She looked like . Her hand was just stuck in one spot!!! :lachen:I just ignored it and laughed inside.

Has anyone else ever had an awkward hair experience?

I had one when I went to my old high school's graduation in May.
A bunch of my friends were there and we were all talking and catching up and stuff. I had a bunch of new growth at the time, and I flatironed my roots so I could wear my hair down. One of my friends was running her hands gently down my head and she complimented me on how well I blended my weave. When I told her that it wasn't a weave, she started digging through looking for tracks. By the time she was done, I looked like I had been in a hurricane and everyone else present had fallen silent. We just looked at each other like  for a few minutes, and then I quietly excused myself to the bathroom so I could go smooth my head down.
It was mad awkward between us for the rest of the weekend too.

ok...that is crazy! And you probably didn't want to say anything because she was your friend. Uggh. Sometimes folks don't think, huh.:nono:

LOL, I didn't say anything because there was nothing to be said. From the look on her face, she knew she was wrong. I didn't want to make it worse for her.

Lol. Chaos, this has happened to me before. And I've been wanting to tell you for the longest time that your siggy is hilarious! I laugh every time I read that quote! Lol.

My sister in law was staying with us while visiting from a different city. I don't know her that well, but she knows I love hair, so I had just used my Maxiglide and got it swinging (the old version of the MG, not the new one - ugh!) AND we were sitting at the table and she says "Oh your hair grew too fast since the last time I saw you!" (It had been about six months and I had successfully retained all three inches, had in fact just hit APL for the FIRST time in my life). I was like "Oh thank you, I'm using Mane & Tail Conditioner and purposely underprocessing my hair with Mizani Lye" - after she asked me what I was doing. So then with her husband looking on and my husband looking on she stands up and hugs me....huh...and real quick reaches her hand up in there to search for tracks!!!! I was shocked, I had just been weave checked...I couldn't believe it. She ground her fingers against my scalp and I'm sure she felt my new growth because I was stretching - 14 weeks....she looked amazed and not embarrassed at all.

My husband later pointed out that his sister had obviously "weave checked" me. He learned that term from me talking about the hair board.

I wasn't offended, just surprised that she thought it was a weave, when it has so much "texture" to it. I was actually slightly pleased because it was my first official weave check and I put in the weave check thread, I'm pretty sure!

LOL, yes! Same here.. I keep wondering WHAT product she is talking about!

Girl I know! I been wondering the SAME thing! I cry I laugh so hard at it. Cuz I can just hear someone saying that right now. " I got a tad bit funky. She better use some Jergens." Hilarious! :lachen:

Hmmm, funny and awkward.

My first year in college I was staying in a dorm and we had transfer students from across the country as we do from multiple countries during the year. One of the girls was incredibly sweet and Japanese. It was her first time in the US and she only spoke broken English.

We became good friends and I was her semi tour guide the entire time she was there introducing her to everything she was curious about and answering all her questions. One afternoon we were hanging out while it was raining and I noticed her staring at me so I asked her what's up. Well she was staring at my new growth, she asked about it and I explained as best I could to her while she nodded and stared so seriously at me.

Then shyly she asked. "May I touch?" She was just being so nice about it I agreed and she gently touched my roots first carefully, then more intensely, and then massaging over and over. It actually felt nice so I just sat there letting her get the experience in. Then I hear her behind me. "Ohhh so soft...like sheep. This is very nice!"

I just burst out laughing. The whole situation...foreign exchange student with a thick accent massaging my newgrowth while she cooed about sheep...LMAO.

I've had people ask me but no one has been bold enough to actually put their hands in my head...

I got weaved checked a few weeks ago at my son's birthday party. I saw a friend I haven't seen in a few years. She said oh your hair is so long when we hugged. Then she ran her hand from the top of my head to the bottom feeling for tracks. I just smiled and said yeah I've been working on getting my hair healthy.

Since was a friend I wasn't offended. But I would have been pissed if someone I didn't or barely knew weaved check me.

Ok..so what if it had been a weave? If it looked good who cares. I guess she was trying to catch you in a lie. I wonder what would have happened if you had said "hey girl, did you just weave check me?" :drunk:

lol...ok this is sweet! I love it when other races are honestly fascinated and intriqued by our hair. We can have an afro one day and the next bone straight. Love it!
