Anyone else have a problem with this? Did you go to a derm and if it helped what did they do? Thanks~

Jbco, mixed with different oils, mn, peppermint and mt helped. Also took a break from relaxers. have u tried dcing more often, say 3x per week?

I was thinning at the crown and temple also just like my mother. I discovered a hair product called ReGrow it has minoxidil in it. I have been useing this product since January of this year and my hair has thickened up alot.

i was thinning at nape and edges. I started using nioxin follicle booster and in 5 months i have a good amount of regrowth! Now i'm working on thickening up my edges so i'm using a oil blend to see if that helps!

Girl I've tried everything on earth almost. It's been a gradual thing. I was told gradual thinning over years is hereditary and likely hormonal.

I have some fam with a similar problem also so it maybe hereditary like yours. Does this product 'interupt' your perm? Meaning, do you have to use it more than once a week? Does it wet the hair? I only wash my hair once a week so any sooner will be a pain. But, let me know....

Does this interupt your perm also (must you use it more than once a week?) ? How do you use it?

I've been using a product called Lenzi's Request. Only been a couple of weeks.

Will know in a couple of months if the temples begin to thicken up again. It's supposed to be a hairgrowth aid and I saw fotki's of folks attributing their hairgrowth to the product, so we'll see.

well??? What happened?

Jada - did lenzi's request help with the diffused thinning?

Or the ReGrow
or the Nioxin

This is in response to diffused thinning - not to pronounced patches, but very small, hardly noticeable thinning that generally occurs in the crown and you can see it along the part line if you are looking for it.

What about coffee oil -
saw palmetto -

bump bump.

Wow! This thread is 4 years old and this is what I added to my regimen in 2010 to stop the thinning of my crown. To me the thinning and slow growth of my crown was hereditary....mom, aunts, other female family members.

I started out using the coffee oil (purchased) and homemade oil-infused.
But I wanted to eliminate the use of the coffee oil but still receive the benefits of caffeine. I read on LHCF that caffeine removes DHT from the scalp. DHT causes female-pattern baldness. I then started tea rinsing after every shampoo or co-wash. Then purchased pure caffeine and added 1% to my DC or rinse-out conditioners. Been doing this every since 2010.

I also add garlic oil to every DC to prevent excessive shedding. Have not had any excessive, seasonal shedding since 2010.

Stopped perming my hair.

Incorporated ayurveda into my hair regimen....Henna/ayurvedic herbs (3 - 4 times a month).

Hair started growing back at the same rate as the rest of my hair and thickened up without the help of growth aids.

Consistency and discipline is the key.

Pompous Blue I appreciate your detailed review! So let me clarify,

After every shampoo you tea rinse?
- What brand tea
- Dosage/Strength? Meaning how many tea bags to how much water?
- Does it tangle your hair?
- You just pour the tea over your scalp, then what? Rinse? Condition?

You used pure 1% caffeine and added to DC or rinse-out conditioners
- What brand of caffeine and what company purchased from?
- Powder or liquid?
- Did it make your conditioners less detangling or make your hair hard?

You added garlic oil to every DC
- What brand of garlic and what company purchased from?

thanks so much! I'd love to put that caffeine in an oil and oil my scalp with it at night.

My hair is thinning at the crown and front I guess (like if I part my hair the part is larger than before). Also hereditary. None of the the females have gone bald (except my one aunt with alopecia but that's different). Just thinner than I would like my hair to be :(

But I like keeping things simple. Too many steps and I just say what evs lol

TEA USE -
At 1st I only used tea (Earl Grey) and would make 2 – 3 gallons at a time. I freeze 2 gallons and used 2 warmed cups after every wash, massage scalp for about 30 seconds, apply DC, steam and rinse – no tangling problem. [recipe 1/3rd– ½ cup of tea per gallon of water; boil, let sit all day or several hours, pour in gallon jug and freeze or refrigerate.] I bought the Earl Grey tea from mountainroseherbs.com when they had a sale on the pound sizes. I bought several pounds and use a large tea-ball to make my tea. (Black tea will stop excessive shedding and remove DHT from your scalp.)

CAFFEINE USE -
In 2012 I purchased caffeine from Amazon.com and started adding ½ tsp per 8 oz. Conditioner. It does not affect the performance of the conditioner. It is 100% caffeine but I do not use more than 1%. 1% of 8 oz is about ½ tsp.

I purchased the caffeine from amazon.com - 1.1 Lbs. Caffeine Powder 100% USP Pharma. Be careful with this if you have little ones at home.

GARLIC OIL USE -
I add 1 tsp – 1 TBSP of garlic oil per 8oz. Conditioner. It also does not affect the performance of the conditioner. I add 1 TBSP during August – Sept. to stem a possible excessive shedding attack (Aug – Sept is my normal shedding season.) I purchased “Rinaldo’s Organic Garlic Gold” from Publix grocery store. It’s 6 oz. and the ingredients are extra virgin olive oil and toasted organic garlic. (you can use this as a pre-poo on your scalp only and not have to add it to your DC.)
Another thing, I used Alter Ego garlic mask DC and it worked fine in stopping the excessive shedding. But I wanted to use something cheaper year ‘round. Most people only apply it to their scalp. I applied it to my scalp and hair and it did a wonderful job of DC my hair. Has great slip.

Finally, you don’t have to tea rinse and use pure caffeine at the same time. The tea itself contains caffeine. I started out using the tea because I never knew pure caffeine was available. But when I saw someone on here had purchased caffeine from amazon.com, I took the plunge. So, you can either use pure caffeine or do tea-rinses. You don’t need to do both to remove the DHT from your scalp. (But the added benefits of tea-rinsing is that it is known to reduce excessive shedding, too.)

I, also, don’t know how often you need to tea-rinse or use caffeine to keep the DHT off your scalp. I wash or co-wash at least 3 times a week. And it’s working for me.

I have not tried adding the caffeine to my shampoos or oils. But I’m sure it’ll still work. Be careful of your quantity.

There are a lot of knowledge and ideas in this thread: Coffee,Tea,ACV,AVJ,Ayurvedic&Powders Challenge 2014
http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=713601. And look at the previous years, 2012 and 2013, threads.

And do a search using “Coffee” or “Tea” in “search titles only”. There are loads of threads on the subjects.

Finally, it is wonderful not to have stunted growth and thinning hair in my crown. The caffeine and garlic does work. I no longer cut the rest of my hair to match my crown. This has worked for me since 2010.

I always subscribe to adding one thing at a time to my regimen. So start out doing the black tea rinses only. And see how that works for your hair. You can use regular Lipton black tea from your grocery store.

Then after a few months, try the caffeine only. Then the garlic….You get the picture.

Pompous Blue Thank you SO much  . Im going to try this. I don't wash but once a week so I need to add somthign extra. does the garlic oil stinks because I may need to oil my scalp with it during the week to help.

Before trying new products or oils etc, perhaps consider how you're manipulating your edges. What kind of mechanical forces are you using on your hair and are there ways of stopping them completely or finding a gentler alternative?

I say thins because if you continue to over manipulate (and that's relative, tolerance is different for different people) your hair, products and oils might do nothing for you.

Sadly to say,the garlic oil does smell and would not be a good idea to keep it on your scalp 'til the next wash day.

But I am still interested in the caffeine in an oil and oiling your scalp with it probably once or twice between washes. But I don't know if it's a good idea to leave it on your scalp and the longterm effect of doing this. Just thinking out loud.

Have you gotten the black tea, yet?

Urban I agree with you.

I stopped perming my hair because I thought it was causing my thin and stunted crown. But 14 months after my BC and the problem hadn't been solved, that's when I added the garlic tea/caffeine to my regimen and it's been the best thing for me. I asked my doctor about my hair loss and she said it was "normal" aging. I did not accept "normal."

Pompous Blue I have some but I also have some spearmint tea which is said to be anti androgenic so I'm going to try it first because I'd previously bought so many boxes. I'll let you know how it worked out.
