Yeeeeeessss! That's why I shampoo once a week. When I need to go longer due to being on vacation or I get lazy...long hairs all over the place.

Theory: Maybe the excess of sebum makes it easier for the hair to slip out from the scalp. :scratchch Clean scalp to retain thickness?

My hair also tangles more due to being dirty..which can cause damage hmmm....

Yes.

My theory: The follicles can't breathe as easily, so the hair is more prone to falling out.

Yes definitely :yep: When my scalp is dirty, it itches and the irritation causes me to shed. That's why I wash 2x a week.

Oh no. Plus dirt is good for your hair. It makes it grow.... :)

I remember that from back in the day. I believed that too that I wouldn't wash my braids for months and believed that the hair was growing so fast. Man, I didn't care that my scalp was screamin' to be washed dirt was making it grow!:lachen:

Dunno - never had opportunity to see for myself however women who wash daily still have sheddage so I don't know if there's any avoiding it.

I know people shed regardless, it just seems like there is more shedding when the scalp is dirty.

For me this is definitely the case, my hair on day 8 is like lets get outta here maybe we can land in some water.

Like clock work my hair starts shedding with the white bulb at the ends. :)

In order to work with my head I just wash on day 7 to avoid extra shedding. :)

Yes, w/o a doubt. If I wash my hair and don't cowash or wash it during the week, when days 5-7 roll around my hair is def shedding more.

you ladies make me laugh. i also remember hearing that. dirty hair= mor growth!!! WOOOOW! cant beleive it.

personnaly if my hair is dirty,it becomew weaker and may shed more.but once a week is enough foe me,im always in protective styles

YES! I notice much more shed hair when I wait 7+ days to wash than when I co-wash mid-week. However, I started to think that perhaps it is because by day 8, 9; my hair has more "built up" shed hair than when I co-wash on day 3, creating a larger volume of total shed hair???

Either way, I've decided that if I don't see a decrease in shed hair soon, I'm going to add garlic supplements to my vitamin regimen. The little hairs on my bathroom floor are upsetting!!

I thought I was going crazy. I mentioned this to a friend and they looked at me like I was crazy.

I would go to the salon every week when I was relaxed. As straighten natural I noticed more so, because I go to the salon between 2-3 weeks without washing in between.

Yes, definitely. That's part of my motivation to wash weekly because the shedding gets pretty bad if I wait longer than that.

Yes, I do. I think the itching and scratching that results from a dirty scalp might have something to do with it. (for me anyhow) I wash my hair very often now to prevent it.

So wait. Are you ladies who say you shed more when your scalp is dirty shedding "more" because you haven't gone through your shed hairs until your next wash day? Are you still pulling out shed hairs the day after you wash your hair or is your hair in a protective style? I'm not understanding why hair would shed more, unless you didn't touch your hair the other days.

I actually had to stop washing my hair so much because the shedding was astronomical (more than my normal 5,000 a day lol) when I washed multiple times a week.

It is sooo much easier for me to lose hair when it is dirty. Which is really strange because after I do my protein treatments and deep condition, I hardly lose any hair for the first 3 days. Then around day 5 or 6, shedding galore! Don't let me go longer than a week without washing my hair...
