I've been wearing a wash-n-go ponytail since 09/09/ I am very happy with my progress. I use an instant moisturizer and bag my hair up every night. In the morning, I'll moisturize again and smooth back with my hands. I do not brush my hair. I co-wash only and dc every one-two weeks. My last length check was great with the exception of my temples. It's bad.

I started using Nioxin in the am and pm and started my sulfur mix about a week ago. I'm hoping this works or else I'll need to wear a head band to cover up my bald spots.

Is there anyone else out there who has overcome thinning temples? I'm beginning to think this is genetic but what I'm experiencing now is ridiculous.!!!

Only thing I can think of is the ponytail. Is your ponytail too tight? Might be pulling on your hair. I would keep using the Nioxin and sulfur mix to see if this works for you, and I would maybe play around with a new protective style to see if that makes a difference.

When I noticed thinning at my temples, I chalked it up to wrapping too tightly. Now I wrap about twice a week (after a wash/co-wash and air dry), and the rest of time I sleep with my hair loose on a satin pillowcase. I'm not an expert, but I think it's possible that you might be experiencing traction alopecia. Perhaps you're wearing your hair too tight, which is definitely a contributing factor to that situation. I'm sure others will chime in soon, if they haven't while I was typing this. Good luck.

I had this issue bc I had braids for about a year and a half. The lady that did them did it wayyyyyy to tight, and it pulled all the hair out at the root. Basically baby the area. Put extra moisturizer there. When I DC I 1 make a mix of Brahmi and Lavender essential oil. I run this through my scalp and put a little extra on my temples. Both of these oils are known to promote growth. Ive been doing this for the past 6 months, and they've come back :)

I used to have thin hair around my hair line and my hair line was a little furhter back than it is now because of wearing braids for years without a break. Some things that worked for me was to stop wearing the braids and be gentle with my hairline. I also do not brush my hair into my bun or afro puff I just use my hands so that my hairline is not tight. Also I make sure that my bun is not tight if it is I redue it to make it a little loose. Also if you perm your hair only perm the edges every other relaxer. This has help me to grow them in thicker and fuller and they don't look thin. Also be patient with your hair it will take some time for your temples to recover. But I know for a fact that they will grow back with some effort since mine have grown back in.

Also, even if you're not pulling your hair too tightly, it's still a good idea to switch up your hairstlyes so your not pulling your hair in the same direction all of the time.

But, in regard to your question, there are many remedies to try around here before losing hope. I'm sure it'll turn out fine.

With a wash n go you are probably pulling or patting your hair back into the ponytail while it is wet which is for some is the weakest time for their hair.

I can't manipulate my front much because it is my weakest area. I have to be real careful with it.

I imagine with the wash in gos you are probably brushing or smoothing down the front which may also be placing tension on your front area.

I do make sure my ponytail is not too tight and reposition every two days. In fact, if I can move my ponytail in a full circle, I'll take it out and redo to loosen. I will continue using the Nioxin and sulfur mix though but will definitely try a new protective style. This one was so so easy.

Thanks for responding. Since I do not brush my hair, I do smooth it down with alot of moisturizer. I have to consider the advice of the other comments and try a new protective hairstyle.
