I am not posting pics of this catastrophe only because i didn't take n e .
Anyway, my hair didnt come out nothing like i was expecting it to and here is what i did step by step

  1. Deep conditioned for 3 hours
  2. Clarified 3 times
  3. Conditioning with Aussie moist, rinsed out
  4. Porosity control, rinsed out
  5. Added Heat protectant by Got2B
  6. Blow dried, flat ironed
And it was still poofy... what did i do wrong? Nothing was in my hair and it was moving it was just huge and i had tons of flyaways. it actually looked like I only blow dried it.

btw the only reason i straighten was to do a length check and get a trim but i still would like to know what went wrong

.....so you deep conditioned for 3 hours, rinsed, clarifed rinsed, clarified, rinsed, clarified, rinsed conditioned again, rinsed, used a porosity control, rinsed and then used a heat protectant (Girl thats a lot.) I dont think you needed to clarify so many times though.

your cuticles could still be raised ( explaining the puffiness)
Did you use anything to close the cuticles?

What setting do you use on your flat iron?

have you used Got2b Heat protectant before??

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to help solve your problem.

Just wondering...why did you DC and THEN clarify THREE times? You totally stripped your hair....3 times! What temp did you use?

Yep that's what i did

Did you use anything to close the cuticles? I used the porosity control to close it. Maybe i didnt leave it on long enough

What setting do you use on your flat iron? The highest setting

have you used Got2b Heat protectant before?? Yep and it worked fine

I did the same thing tonight, but I think the hot weather started curling my hair at the same time..it was horrible...the humid weather is not conducive to straitening lol..

Anyway, my hair didnt come out nothing like i was expecting it to and here is what i did step by step

  1. Deep conditioned for 3 hours - 2.5 hours of wasted time.
  2. Clarified 3 times - 2 times too many. you stripped your hair completely of all natural oils. why DC and clarify at the same time? you are defeating the purpose of the DC!:perplexed
  3. Conditioning with Aussie moist, rinsed out- waste of conditioner
  4. Porosity control, rinsed out - did your hair needed this?
  5. Added Heat protectant by Got2B - okay
  6. Blow dried, flat ironed - poor technique....you can use 50 products but if you have poor skills and technique with the hot tools, you are just wasting your time and energy.

wow, my answers in red.

Yeah, I think that's a lot of manipulation for the hair in a span of three hours. If I were you, I wouldn't DC then clarify. It's like you didn't DC in the first place, ya know? If I were flat ironing, I'd clarify then DC with heat or overnight (I'm assuming you didn't use heat since you said you DCed for three hours). Then I'd simply rinse out the DC, lightly towel dry, add heat protectant, blow dry (with a comb attachment), and then flat iron

I think you totally defeated the purpose of DCing by clarifying, you should have clarified first and once is more than enough. A good flat iron job depends on a good moisturizing DC so the poofiness was probably because you stripped your hair and then straightened it.

Next time just deep condition, rinse, spray heat protectant as you're drying your hair in sections.

The only reason i clarified is because i was afraid that all the oil that i used in my DC (because i make my own) would weigh my hair down too much if i just rinsed it out and straightened it. Well at least i know now :look:

Ill master this straightening thing one day.....

Yes she is right. Clarifying shampoos only need to be used once a week ( unless your hair is massively clogged, which I doubt) I think you should've just clarified and then use the deep conditioner ( or a reconstructor conditioner) for strands to be soft and strong, then you'd be good to go.
Technique is a bi one too. Many people arent aware that when hotcombing, the back of the comb is what does the straightening, not the teeth. And when flat ironing, you have to apply medium tension when going down your tresses.

Next time try building up the moisture levels with a few good DCs before the day of straightening. My best straightening happend when I DCed one day (overnight), rinsed/air dried, DCed again overnight and then straightened. It's alot of steps, but hey...had do what I had do to have sleek straight hair.

Personally, when I use coconut oil in a DC, I always wash it out with Chi Moisture Treatment Shampoo (red) and then I straighten. Also, my detangler is a moisturizer as well. So that is 3 levels of moisture (DC, Shampoo & Detangler/Protectant).

Could the shampoo of been too stripping and not moisture based? Does your heat protectant add any moisture?

Sounds like you did too much, OP. Why did you clarify three times? More than likely that stripped your hair of the moisture the DC added. Next time just DC one good time. Then apply your leave in/heat protectant before blow drying and flat ironing. Works for me.

I won't echo what's already been said about clarifying too much. I think you got the picture ;-)

But the flyaways would concern me. They are basically shorter pieces of hair that you clearly weren't expecting. Flat ironing smoothly don't make them go away, they just camoflauge them.

Have you experienced a lot of breakage lately? Or do you think the breakage came from all of the things you did to your hair?

no i actually haven't experienced any. my hair has been in braids and a sew in for the past month and a half

I use got2b to flatiron & it works fine so I know that is not your problem.
Looking at your steps, I believe you did too much. Clarify, deep condition, rinse, apply leave-in/heat protectant, blowdry(the straightest as possible), flatiron w/ the comb chase method w/ some some tension, then wrap.

^^^
That works for me.

Yea i see that now... im just paranoid but with error you learn

Yea, if you're worried about the oil in your DC, I would just use a regular shampoo after DCing.
And if you wanted to start with a "clean slate": clarify, DC, moisturizing poo, leave-in/heat protectant, blowdry, flatiron.

You'll definitely get it down pat soon.....and next time we want pics! lol
I bet it's not even as bad as you think.

I did the same thing and have the same problem. I know I could probably get it straighter if I put my maxigluide on a higher setting.
