I know I'm probably late, but I just found out about curlformers about 5 minutes ago and I really want some lol. Anyone on here current users of it?

It's okay to be late - that's what the board is for - learning experiences!
Anyway, I just used some today and I LOOOVE them. They are great, especially for transitioners because they provide a lot of tension so your roots won't go POOF!

I bought them today and am sitting here with them in my hair as I type this....I don't know what the final result will look like, but I had the worst time putting them in, and I ripped out a s*#tload of my hair:wallbash:......so I am less than pleased.....I hope the curls look decent for all the hair I wound up losing....I am sick right now.....smh....I'm sure I did something wrong or maybe my hair was too soft b/c I just steamed it.....but I don't think I even want to attempt this again...I will stick to roller sets.....U can have my curlformers if u want them.

I was watching on youtube that it's better that your hair is really wet to get good slip and to make sure not to put in too much hair at a time or it could cause a problem. Could this have been a problem? Let me know of your results

I watched the videos too....but I know for a fact I may have put a lil too much hair in, simply because i hate the shirley temple look and was going for something different...more of a wavy look if u will....so I figured if I used larger sections, I would get that effect...(it seemed like a good idea at the time...lol).....so I'm thinkin' this isn't for me....So I just wasted $30, bucks b/c I will never use them again....smh....ahhhhh well, live and learn....

.....and I will definitely let u know how it comes out.....pray for me....

I shall! lol. The girl I watched on youtube had two different videos. One where she used long and wide and one where she used the long and extra wide. I want extra wide because I want loose curls. The tighter the curl the shorter my SL hair will look and I don't like that

Did you like the results you got when you still were able to use them?

Oh yea...sorry:grin: but I absolutely loved the results. In the beginning it's a little time consuming because you have to learn how to use the tool, but the curls come out lovely and it pulls tight at the scalp. The downside: I couldn't ever get them to last more than a day and sleeping in them...uncomfy, lol.

I also wanted to get the the extra wide...but all Sally's had was the extra long/wide....I think we may have watched the same video....but I know exactly what u mean when u say the tighter the curl, the shorter the hair looks....I am only APL....so these may take me right up to neck length once I remove them...I hope not!!!!!:nono:

I really liked my curlformers. What I didn't like was that I had to spend close to $100 on them because only a few come per pack. I liked the curls I got and even though the curlformers take awhile to get in, you can take them out pretty quickly. My hair also dried quickly while in the curlformers, which was a plus. Sadly, I got little use out of them before my hair got too long for the curlformers. At one point I was putting two curlformers onto each hair strand but eventually I just sold them on LHCF.

I have some and I like them a lot!! For the person that ripped her hair out I recommend filing down the hook works wonders!

Also, I find I like the curls better on damp hair and then you can separate the curls with your fingers.

Thank you for the advice, I will give try it before I totally give up on the things....if not, then does anyone know how I sell/swap/give away on the forum?...They may be useful to some of the other ladies on the board, who are adept at using them.

I'm wondering how different these are to flexi rods. Are the curls long lasting with Curlformers?

hi girls- i haven't been on lhcf for long but I HAVE been using Curlformers!! and i've just seen this great new tutorial done by Mae (naturalchica) and it just says it all!!:clapping:!- how to not pull out your hair when pulling it through the Curlformer (ouch!), how to use the hook properly (wish i'd seen this video when I first bought them!) and her curls are really lovely

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VMzDUBiaiI&feature=fvsr

I'd say- don't sell'em, USE them!!! Curls Rock!!!!

BTW one of the girls mentioned only finding Extra Long but not Extra Wide at Sallys- I wanted these ones too and I just got them from the curlformers website

Extra long and extra wide. I like the results but haven't been using them much. Just reminded me I should dust them off.....

I have some, but now they just sit in my closet b/c my hair is too long to use them.
Me too, now I have like an inch sticking out. So I rarely use them. I have actually used them on wet or 80% dry hair. I get the loose waves when I do it mostly dry.

There were pics in the second link I gave above. :look:

yeah i know :yep: i meant that i want to see more pics. i want to see more of a variety because there were only like 4. i feel like i see TONS of twist outs pics and bantu knot pics etc. but everytime i look for curlformer pics, i see so few. i always wondered why that was

I LOVE mine! They are a great alternative to heat styling. They can be expensive. I waited until Sally's had a free shipping, 15% off all onlinne purchases promotions and I used my 20% off coupon. So it ended up being a lot more affordable.

I was excited when I got it because i don't know how to roller set and waited for my wash day to use it ... to my disappointment it pull my hair when trying to yank it out of tube. About 50 strands of hair, that was it for me. It has been sitting in my room. :ohwell:

I don't know if you've already seen these. I apologize if they're old news:

So I got my first set of curlformers when I was natural. I used them a couple of times, and got these results:

I was worried they wouldn't work now that I'm relaxed or that my hair would be too long, but they turned out perfectly. I did use 1/3 of what it took when I was natural, since my hair isn't nearly as thick. I shampooed, did a light protein treatment, washed out the protein treatment, conditioned, then set each curl with my leave in conditioner and elasta QP setting foam (LOVE that stuff!). i also used four flexirods (the tiny blue ones) in the very front for a little different look, and because eventually I want to do an entire flexirod set! i airdryed overnight (i.e.--i slept on those hard pieces of crap!), took the rollers out, used some hairspray (this look has to make it until thursday!) and sat under the dryer for 15 minutes. i then sprayed with oil sheen and tea tree oil spray.

oh, and i apologize for the camera in the face. curlformers suck to sleep on (i have to take a sleeping pill to get a couple of hours!) and they finally woke me up at 6AM! i'm not about to show ya'll what i look like at 6AM. and trust me, you don't want to see it either...

here are my relaxed results!

i know some people hate these things, but i LOVE curlformers. they make the most absolutely perfect curls ever.

can't wait until i accumulate enough flexirods for an entire flexirod set.

im very happy with the results,, i wont separate them since i wont be goin to work til tomorrow..in any event, i"ll flat iron it if needed...but it was definitely worth the investment!

It's not that I don't believe they are successful. Lawd knows I have seen from my own experience they stretch and curl nicely. But I am yet to see a natural 4B show separated curls. Everyone's just worn them looking like tubes or like you just took out rollers from your hair. I'm not saying that as a diss, coz I'm guilty of it myself:

I'm yet to use heat with them and to use products with them, so I haven't given up hope that it's possible to achieve the look I'm going for, but I just haven't yet seen an example of it except on relaxed 4B hair.

I used Giovanni Leave-in, Vatika & a little diluted Lottabody for this. Also, I used 52 of the pink & orange curlformers.

Pinkskates, your hair is gorgeous!

OK, I'm bootleg...I bought one package to try out. I took two of my twists down and wet the sections, then applied some Garnier curling mousse (that's the only thing I have on hand at the moment).

The curlformers were actually pretty easy to use. I put them in and sat under the dryer for 15 minutes.

The curls weren't completely dry when I took the curlformers out, so the results aren't perfect. I bet if I use a real setting lotion and let them dry all the way next time, I'll get much better results.

My roots got straight:

I used the long and narrow blue and green ones last night...I have no idea how I'm going to maintain this :look: I might do a loose scarf

You probably were just pulling them from the end instead of holding the base, untwisting, then holding the base open as you slide them out. Hairtoebeauty shows you how: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNGZqo03v54

4Bers, are you not able to separate the curls without frizz or reversion? I want to buy curlformers to stretch my hair as I dry it and then do a braid out. In other words, I'd like curlformers to replace blowdrying with the comb attachment. Think I can achieve this?

I haven't really watched YT vids to come to that conclusion completely. I just know what when *I* did it, I didn't use any product (and that could be my problem) and trying to separate them gave me this:

Again, that's bare hair so DUH!

Anyway, I don't give up easily. I'm determined I will find a way. I'll be sure to report back when I do.
