I plan on getting a weave put in about 2 weeks from now but i have to order them on Monday so it can get here in time. I was wondering if anyone has used either Sleek or Urban Beauty human hair weaves as i'm looking for something that is silky and doesn't involve me needing to straighten it often as i'm not that patient. I also like to wash my hair forthnightly when i have a weave so it would be good to know that it'll still feel good afterwards.

I'm going to leave a little horseshoe at the top just to cover the tracks. Any ideas would be very much welcome. If it makes any difference, here's the site i'm getting them from:

I've never heard of either of these brands before and judging by the price, it's cheap BSS hair. This hair probably isn't going to hold up well after washing. You could go to a BSS in your area and pick up something better. Yaki hair will stay straight after washing. How long do you plan on keeping the weave in? If it's for a quick do, it might not be so bad. But for something long term, I'd advise you to buy better quality hair.

I would suggest you go over to BHM and research BSS brands. I like the Goddess Remy. I've worn it off and on since 2005. Good quality for the price. I can usually reuse it for 3 weaves. If you're going to wear your weave for 3 months, I'd spring for Remy. That other hair isn't going to last you. Once you wash it more than likely it's going to turn into a tangled mess. It'll probably shed all over the place too.

The hair you posted before isn't human hair for that price. It's a small amount of human hair mixed with animal hair and synthetic fibers as filler. The vendor can put 100% human hair on the package as long as it contains a small percentage of human hair. I'm not sure of the exact number off the top of my head but IIRC, it's less than 10%. I would suggest you don't waste your money buying it and having it installed just for it to turn out to be a mess.
 
Glamazon, I am thinking about trying some remy hair from the bss...Umm which would you recommend? I am a broke college student but I willing to invest in some better quality hair that I can reuse. Also anyone have any recommendations for my transitioning hair...I am thinking of bc the front eventually so my hair can blend :blush:
 
Check out blackhairspray.com. They carry most of the brands you'll find in the bss. This will give you an idea of the types of hair that are available and pricing. If this is your first time buying human hair then start simple and if you can go to a local bss so you can see and feel what you'll be getting in person. Remy hair costs more but will last you a long time if it's on a good weft. Human hair is cheaper - the brand I know of that has good human (non-remy) hair is Outre. There are also lots of reviews on hairsisters.com. Re: Hairsisters - there are complaints on bhm about them because they have been known to be slow to ship - but it is still worthwhile to look at their website for the reviews.

eta - just noticed OP is in Australia. Still the above websites are worthwhile for research purposes regardless of where you buy.

I like the Goddess Remi. The yaki blends well with my hair when straightened. Ediese and Nichi both use it as well. Their hair always looks great.

Here's a bob I had installed with the Goddess. Some of my natural hair was left out on top. I just flat ironed it.

I've tried the Velvet Remy too and it held up pretty good but I liked the Goddess better. I've also used Bohyme with good results. I've heard good things about Bobbi Boss IndiRemi but I haven't tried it.

Right now I have in virgin kinky curly hair. That's the hair in my siggy picture. I've had it in for about a month now. So far so good. I plan to try Extensions Plus or Halley's Curls next.

Yes. Remi hair lasts longer than regular BSS hair. It is real human hair. The cuticles are aligned so it's less prone to tangles, shedding, etc. It's reusable. I've been wearing mostly remy hair for the past 5-6 years.

Virgin hair lasts longer than remy. It's expensive but it will last as long as you take care of it.

I used to use Outre Platinum New Yaki when I was in college. It held up pretty good for me. It did shed though. I used to spend about $50 for 2 packs of hair but that was before hair prices went up a few years back. I wouldn't keep it for 3 months though. Maybe 6-8 weeks. That's why I asked how long OP planned to keep her weave in. She could get by with cheaper hair if she didn't plan on keeping it in for a long time. 3 months though? She might as well spring for Remy. It's worth it for 3 months and being able to reuse it.

I've caught Sensationnel Goddess Remy and Outre Velvet Remy on sale before - like 2 packs for less than $100 at the BSS. Also sometimes they will give you a discount if you ask. I still have all of mine in my storage bin. :look: Definitely check out BHM and Youtube. I agree with the ladies who said check out reviews on hairsisters and some other places. I have read reviews there before going elsewhere to purchase. I've also responded to some ladies reviews and posted pictures before to help out. Also search Nichi and Ediese's threads about weaves. There was also another poster here a few years back who compiled a good weave thread. I believe her name was RabiaElaine. She wore EP hair but her guide was pretty good.
 
I didn't know they were still selling Urban Beauty.

I've never heard of the first brand, but I knew a lot of people who used Urban Beauty and used to love it because it never tangled. The people I knew were p*ssed because it appeared they had discontinued it.

BUT, it was the Urban Beauty in the Purple/Blue box and not the other brands that they had out. It had a picture of a woman with her hair swept over one of her shoulders.

I also used Goddess Remy weaving hair. The texture I used was Natural Yaki (because there's a regular Yaki texture and the Natural Yaki texture). I loved that hair. I didn't leave any of my hair out, but that never tangled either.
 
Thanks a lot ladies. I just woke up to find so many replies....very much appreciated. I've just read a few threads back and i saw a picture of Nichi's hair that she cut down to a bob and she said she used the Goddess remi and it looks really good. When i get it done in a few weeks time, i'll post pictures here. Do you guys think its a good idea for me to wash it/ soak in an ACV rinse before using it? Apparently it helps minimise the itching that usually occurs on the scalp when you fix a weave :)
 
no matter wht u get, make sure u seal the wefts so it wont shed check out a few vids on youtube to c how. And I dont think washing it is a bad idea, unless u have one of those stylists who likes to work with "undistubed" hair...........

I actually never soaked BSS weaving hair before. I've never had any problems with it. I also sew my tracks to a weaving net. Ever since I did that, I have had no problems with my scalp itching from the tracks...or the thread (because BSS thread irritates my scalp).
 
I've just watched a couple of videos on sealing wefts so i'll try and find myself some sealant before the hair gets here. Actually i've never soaked a weave before; its just that with the ones i've had in the past, i've itched terribly. So i thought maybe soaking it in ACV rinse might help combat the problem

Me either. I think most people do that with braiding hair. But if your stylist is going to do your braided base with added hair then I could see rinsing it.

It's worth a try OP. I usually don't get the added hair put in mine but I still get itchies whenever my hair is freshly braided. I always thought it was tingling bc all the individual hairs are being pulled. I spray some braid spray on it and it goes away. I'm always itchy the first few days.
 
i have purchased urban beauty before from my local bss and i would not recommend it. wouldn't hold a curl and it did tangle. i have been wearing weave for over 20 years so i've had some of the best and some of the worst. the best hair i have ever purchased was online from the adorable hair do company. another good brand i have purchased on line was from his and hers. i wore their kinky straight for over a year. and while i'm in review mode i do not recommend that anyone purchase the janet collection indian hair. i have that in now and will be taking it out this afternoon. i tried to at least wear it a month but it has got to go! it shed like crazy! really wasted my money on that. i should have purchased the halley's curl( which was my intention) but i got restless and couldn't wait till i got enough money saved up for it. patience is a virtue :)
 
I haven't heard anything good about Urban Beauty. A youtuber I watched to learn how to self-install used it, and she hated it.

What did you decide to go with, OP?

I also ordered the African Royal BRX braid & extensions spray to use underneath my weave so hopefully that would help combat the itching as well, i guess i just have to wait and see how it goes:ohwell:.
 
I've used Urban Beauty hair before and it held up pretty well. I had it in for about 3-4 months. I'm looking through my computer right now for pictures.
