Why aren't the lables facing outward @ the salon?

Im in the shop under the dryer. There a tray with 6 bottles of hair products but ALL of the lables are facing the wall. I Know 1 is Roux PC and another is Aphogee Shampoo for damaged hair. But whats everything else...Why can't the lables face outward? What r they using that makes my hair so silky? And no its NOT relaxer in the condish...

Yep...so true. I never knew what was used in my hair when I used to go to the salon. Nowadays, I can't even fathom going to a salon and having the stylist put a "mystery" product on my hair.

i've always noticed that. i hate that. i wish that going to the salon was like a doctor visit. before they do anything i want to know what they are about to do and what they are going to use to do it. well maybe im extreme but i dont trust these stylists. cant wait for the day when i never have to set a foot back in one.

Especially hate when they pour products in a clear spray bottle & you be like whats that, heck it could be leave in, setting lotion or anything!

I used to notice this ALL the time when I went to salons. It didn't matter how many different ones I went to, they all did that. Sneaky!!! I guess you'd be pissed if you paid 100 dollars for a relaxer and they used Hawaiian Silky products.

One more reason they don't get my money anymore.

You're not extreme at all. The bolded is how it should be. There's no ""one-size-fits-all" answer to haircare, so that approach should not be used in salons.

i wonder if they do it because it looks "cleaner" in the store, focuses on the sale of the service vs the product (Eventhough the following is often questionable) you go there for the services and the expertise of the stylist, trusting they will use proper technique and chemicals along with excellence service to give you an experience- thats a reach right there... i also agree with the "if you knew what it was, you probably wouldnt need their services"

The products aren't in applicator bottles. I reconized the bottle. Im gonna have to do a steakout at the bss tomorrow. She uses a lot of products frequented on this site. This is more of a barber shop/beauty parlor over a salon. But I like it here. Great LASTING Healthy hair for a reasonable price.

The multi ethnic salons that Ive been to in the past or the ones that have a mostly white clientle ALWAYS tell me what they're using and how they used it . When they're done they try to sell me the products.

The stylist that I had while in college always told me how to get the same look at home. She told me that her clients were her walking advertisements and she wanted them to look good all the time.

I have never had this experience at a salon. They always discussed what they were using on my hair and why. I also knew they weren't doing a bait and switch because of the scent. Most of my salon experience included salons with retail sales. It is hard to sell a product you are not using on a client.

If your stylist doesn't want to discuss what products they are using...find a new stylist. If they don't teach you how to care for your hair between visits...find a new stylist.

Then you won't have to go on a scavenger hunt up in the bss.

^^^^ Hawaiian Silky is good but I think the prev. poster was saying "why spend $100 for something that cost about $2 at sally's". And HS relaxer cost $2 at sally's. I would at least like to use exclusive products while in the salon, not stuff from Walmart and such.

I'm surprised they don't have then facing outward. I know a lot of salons sell products too. If they were smart they would face them outward and sell them. If they are good at what they do (which I am assuming they are if you are a loyal customer) then customers will keeping coming to them for the technique and skill and not just the product.

BTW some stylists have admitted to using cheap products and pouring them in empty name brand containers. So wrong. That's why I do my own herr LOL

My exact sentiments, I personally know of 2 hairdressers that pull the old switcheroo, using salon brand bottles to store absolutely crappy products from Satan's loins but they still have the audacity to charging you salon prices for very inferior products. I eliminate the risk that they might be using inferior products or that they might decide to put perm in the conditioner bottle to soften my au natural hair. As a result I carry my own products. It's better to have a healthy does of paranoia than suffer the consequences.

Maybe those of you who question the products put in your hair should find somewhere else to go. I have been going to my stylist for years and she always tells me what she's using, where I can get it from, and even the ingredients that are in it if I ask her. Although I can understand why salons turn the bottles or put them in unmarked ones, I still wouldn't be able to have my hair looking the same even if she wrote it down step by step what I need to do.

so you won't be able to see the products that make your hair look so nice. i asked my hair lady what she was using to detangle my hair so thoroughly that she could use that fine tooth comb, and she just chuckled. i really wish i knew. whatever the detangler was, it was the BOMB. no snag, pulls, or unneccessary hair loss, even with a fine tooth comb. ♥

When I was going to the salon, I worked up my nerve and asked... sometimes I would just say, "whatchu puttin on my hair?" and pick up the bottle and turn it around to look at the label. I need to know. Stylists get irritated when you do that, but... they'll get over it. If they don't... at least I'll know what's on my head... they ain't bout ta worry me...

It didn't happen too much because I went to a stylist that sold the same products in her salon. The only place I didn't see what the products were was when I went to a Dominican Salon. But I didn't care though because I was relaxed at that time, and when I went to the stylist I went because I didn't want to do my hair and I wanted someone to do it for me.

Wow, I didn't know hairdressers were still doing this (I haven't been to one in years).

The first time I saw this was when my mother's hairdresser did my hair. My mom told me that she (the hairdresser) did this for years to prevent customers from knowing the products. When I went to other stylists, they NEVER hid the labels. Then I went home and bought the products myself.
