touch-up in progress and i am NOT happy (updated w/ end result pics)

my 11 week stretch came to an end today. i am currently at the salon sitting under the dryer with rollers in my hair and i am not pleased. this is my 4th time getting a touch up here and i think it will be the last.

1. she detangled my hair prior to basing and i saw too many broken hairs for my liking.

2. as she detangled my hair with conditioner in it and started from the top down (big no no) so of course by the time she arrived at the end, tangles had formed and without patience tried to rip the comb through with such force i could hear the tension in my hair. i asked her to stop this.

and i know her, shes going to ask "do you have time for a trim?"....reply: NO THE HELL I DONT. you just ruined my ends and now want to chop my hair off. NO I WILL DO MY OWN TRIM THANK YOU.

i have officially become a self-relaxer. i will definately be posting for tips and scouring ALL the self-relaxing threads.

i want to cry a little right now...
ugh!

ETA: I'm actually happy with the final results. My ends survived and it wasn't as bad as I felt it was at the time.... that doesn't excuse her actions though! I'm just very relieved.

Sorry this happened to you! :sad:I have become really vocal on the few occassions that I do go to a salon and will stop a stylist dead in their tracks when they do things I don't like. I hope you don't see too many bad results from your visit. Stand your ground with that "stylist".

I love the fact the you told her to stop. I was hoping that this wouldn't be a thread were the stylist was allow to continue when the LHCF member could have easily spoken up. It may not be as bad as you think. Wait until you can get a good assessment of you hair. Hope it turns out ok. :hug2:

i stopped going to the salon three years ago and i think that is the best decision i ever made
self relaxing is no joke though but you have to be prepared and learn every thing you can about it before you start
the best way you can start is by doing the section by section method, start with the middle to front, rinse, condition and then do the remaining middle to back.
cheer up, one day you'll laugh at this experience

Leave! When that kinda stuff happens get up and run! Do not pass Go, do not collect $200. Don't even speak, just grab your purse. Even if you have to do some Malcolm X thing and wash your relaxer out at a water fountain its better than her! I would grab her bottle of neutralizer too and take it with you. Don't be afraid just run. There are over 6 billion people in this world, who cares what she thinks, you never really have to see her again anyway. Save your hair! Its sooooo pretty in your avatar. I hope it all works out and you and your hair get home safely. :hug3:

Eta: I say leave versus talk with her, because with me you only get one shot. When you told her to stop is when I would've been outta of there! Why oh why do you keep going back?

heres a big hug :bighug:

So, just wondering, what made you go back the 3rd time around?? I'm surprised this beautician was granted a 4th chance.

I swear some Stylist need their license revoked/suspended ( IF she is even licensed)

It's a good you didn't like her cut it and flat iron the life out of it.

Will you be updating you fotki for a comparison shot? You're making nice progress!

@ bolded: Exactly. I'm so glad OP put her in her place and told her to stop. My last and final salon visit was 2 years ago when I went to the Ulta salon to be relaxed. I called prior to the visit because it was my first time there and I wanted to know if she was qualified to deal with "afro" hair (this is what she called it) and if they carried the relaxer that I wanted to be used in my hair at their salon. She seemed qualified, said they had my relaxer (Mizani Butter Blends) so I scheduled my appointment.

Got there, and I got ALL the wrong vibes. I had lightly based my scalp and fully detangled my hair prior to the visit. First thing she does is take my hair out of the ponytail I had it in and started to comb, starting from the roots like the stylist's OP did. I immediately told her to stop. She said, "it needs to be combed out" and I told her I had already done that before and she had the nerve to say "well there's too many naps and tangles still, I need to get them straight"........O_o. Strike 1. I didn't even dignify that comment with a response, I just told her to keep the comb out of my head. Then she brought over a clear container with relaxer in it. So I told her I'd like to see the container the relaxer came out of so I know what she's putting on my hair. She said, "oh it's just relaxer." I said, "yes....I can see that. I asked for a specific relaxer which you informed me that you had, I would just like to make sure that is what you're using." And sure 'nuff it was not. Stike 2, 3, 4 aaaaand 5. I left.

When you KNOW you have an incompetent stylist in your hair, leave. Setbacks are bad enough, but to experience a setback because of someone else's doing is 10x worse in my opinion.

i came back because she was consistent and i always experienced great touch ups with her. her only downfall is that she scissor happy - a flaw that i can overlook but i no longer allow to cut my hair... doesnt stop her from asking though (some do not bother to ask at all)

I will indeed be posting up a comparrison pic as soon as i get home and get a hold of my camera!

I mean at what point will it occur that when there is tension - pull back and go about it a different way. Its not difficult to figure out. I know it takes a bit of time, but still ....on a side note, I'm watching QVC right now and this models hair is GORGEOUS! a beautiful BOB.

I left my stylist of 10 yrs. in early April and did my first self-relaxer last week. Start scouring the self-relaxer threads now and you'll be prepared by the time you're due for your next touch-up.

Practice with conditioner doing your whole head and doing the half-and-half method to see which works best for you.

Best wishes!

I'll be trying this out next weekend when I wash. The more practice I get the better!

Sorry this happened to you....But if you ever get in this position again...Speak up and tell her your not properly detangling ...I don't sit quietly in chairs....Because I'm paying for a service and I want it done right...

I'm every beauticians and nail tec worse nightmare...But I tip good so I guess it balances itself out..

I'm in a similar situation. Kind of. My stylist just told me I had four inches of new growth. I know I don't have that much I grow .5 a month and it's only been. 3 months. So what I'm sure she saw was 1.5 of new growth and 1.5 of not so bone straight hair, which is what I asked for last time since I hate the bone straight look. She told me AFTER the relaxer of course. I've got conditionder on right now. I really hope I'm not overprocessed.

updated with end result pics up above...... so happy ends weren't damaged like I though..... hearing sounds of your hair breaking with do that to a girl!

Awww, I really hope your hair came out JUST as you asked!

I thought you are not supposed to comb the hair before a perm what so ever? And she coated your whole hair with the relaxer, isn't that wrong? I thought you're supposed to coated only the new growth?

Sighs*
I definitely self relax now after my first trip to get my hair relaxed after being natural, that lady permed my hair so straight I was pissed for weeks, ugh why pay for something you can do yourself?

I always detangle my hair before I go get a relaxer. She did not apply the relaxer to my whole hair, only my new growth. She always applies my relaxers off the scalp and only to my new growth.

Your hair turned out nice, but I'm glad that you have decided to handle things yourself!!!

OP I want my hair to be like yours when it grows up. :yep:

I am glad it survived the terror, I know how it feels when they yank and pull the hair while combing. Oh first time I ever can complain about one individual how she scrumb the heck out of my hair while shampooing.

If I go back to the salon to get my touch-up the new lady there in no way getting to my hair rinse out and combing it. Ell No!
