I bought this because everyone here was saying how good it smelled. When I got home I was wondering why it was called "Reconditioning Conditioner". As I read the ingredients, (which were very light on a light background), I saw Sodium Hydroxide. I was shocked.

Just to let everyone know.

It's in the old CON green label shampoo too and I haven't had any problems with it. It's not concentrated like a relaxer.

Lots of soaps and shampoos are Lye based....Thats all ivory soap is!!!:ohwell: Doesn't sit well with me to read it either... Sometimes simply perception is what makes it good or bad to me!!! lol I'm a simple simple girl...:lachen:

Yea, sodium hydroxide is in a lot of cosmetics we use. That's why I've become a label reader. I try not to let the addition of sodium hydroxide, urea, DMDM hydantoin, mineral oil and other chemicals that I might be intolerant to sway my decision without trying it first. I was so hesitant to try Neutrogena Triple Silk moisturizer years ago for this very reason. I tried it, liked it, but worried about the sodium hydroxide in it. I moved on, and found another leave-in that I thought would be better for my hair. It's a personal choice.

Sodium Hydroxide is in just about everything even some foods we eat, since I am a handmade soapmaker, you learn alot about Sodium Hydroxide and it is amazing to know what all it is in, I was shocked on some foods it was in that most of us consume daily. But hey we are still here and living.......

oH ok, I didn't know that, but I am still going to steer clear of it. I've never seen it in the moisturizers I use. Right now I'm into Kenra Moisturizing Conditioner and Sexy Organics...and of course my staple Ultra Black Hair Lotion Creme Moisturizer.

Yep - pretzels are dipped in it to create that shiny finish.

Tiye, ain't that crazy? pickles, olives and other stuff, I never knew that until I got into soapmaking, I mean can you really avoid all this stuff? I mean Really? We all want to be natural, I guess the only way is to grow it or make it yourself.

sucky conditioner anyhow(for my hair at least). My roots felt waxy afterwards. gross. *continues with her Garnier*

I learned alot from this thread.....And ^^^ I did't like them either.I'm starting not to like LTR l.i. anymore. Thanks ladies...
