I took Accutane as a teen, and it has never thinned my hair. I had two 6 month treatments. I dont even think thinning hair is a side effect of Accutane.

Maybe sommething else is causing your thinning.

I took Accutane as a teen in college and it worked beautifully. Also, my hair was not affected at all.

I will take a flawless face over hair anyday, I know that sounds nuts but I suffer from hyperpigmentation from thyroid issues and I would prefer my face to be 100% clear, it's not noticeable to others but I see them, using rx fade cream that works has gotten rid of them,

You can also combat the meds effects on your hair, just keep doing what your doing that has helped your hair to flourish, if you relax maybe put a hold on that, I do long stretches and it has really help to combat any negative side effects of my thyroid meds which are also hair thinning and loss.

you don't have to suffer the norms from the meds your about to start using you just have to be really strict with your hair regimen, diet etc.

It will work out, I know you know best from past experiences but don't start picking out wigs yet ;) or thinking the worse.

Remain positive.

I hear you longhair! I just started a round of tetracycline to help my acne that has started up again (due to high doses of MSM) and am hoping and praying it will help!

While reading the side effects of tetracycline I stumbled across something that was written that was SO poignant to me. It said something about the "psychological scarring" of acne. That may sound dramatic to some ppl but I think other acne suffers can relate. Ppl who dont have it dont understand the effects that it can have on your self esteem and self confidence.

Do to my recent breakout I have dark scars all over my face, which I cover with make up whenever I leave the house. Believe it or not Im at a point that Im even self conscious around my fiance with no make up on and am dreading this weekend because he is off and plan on covering it up as soon as I wake up in the morning. May sound drastic to some but thats what I feel I have to do because Im just that self conscious.

^^^ITA. Those dark marks can be depressing. For awhile I had them on my cheeks and that really bothered me. Tetracycline worked wonders for me. Through the years I have also used cephalexon and now ampicillan with success. Having acne under control is a major relief. Pretty skin and hair is a lovely combination:yep:.

I had to get on accutane too but I didn't have any hair problems. I did get the dry skin though and my feet have still not recovered and it's been over 10 years ago. Good luck and hopefully your hair will stay beautiful!! :yep:

Hola... I just wanted to say that I took accutane for 1 installment (6-7months) and I didn't get that many symptoms from it. I definitely didn't get thin hair from it.The only thing I got was dry lips (aquaphor is my love) But my doctor put me on a low dosage. I started at 20 (I am not sure what the unit of measurement is maybe mcg), then I went to 30 after a couple of months but that is probably why I didn't suffer. Also, my skin was more sensitive, so I couldn't get eyebrows waxes as frequently. I really hope this helps, Accutane changed my skin for the better. I have stopped taking it 2 years ago and my skin is still great with minor breakouts.

Black, I know exactly what you are going through  and its something only pep that have been through it understand. I count my blessing, I am not burnt or disfigured but it has effected me, but that has eased as I have got older, I remember once when I have a new partner I sleep with my full make up on, or I would ensure I got up first to put on the war paint :lachen:. I really hope it work out for, feel free to kept in touch nice to have someone that relates :thankyou: for sharing xx

Thank, I have had some great advice, I will certainly TRY and stretch and not apply a relaxer, but I will be about 7 months :wallbash: if I wait thats a very tall order with my fine stranded hair.
