Henna Questions. DONT STONE ME!!

Before yall stone me and send me to the search button I tried to search, but it keeps just going to a white page and stalling....

OK so my question is how do I know what brands of henna are high quality brands, high dye content etc? I want to avoid brands with rocks and twigs and ish in it.

Also, I'm dyed, will it make the lighter bits of my hair turn red? if so, how do I avoid this?

Whimsy, no one would dare stone you!!! LOL You can try Henna for Hair website and there is a book you can download. Also Curly Nikki and Naturally Curly.com has Henna Threads which are informative. I am not sure why you cannnot access this one, however the one here is informative as well. There are so many types of Henna, however Yemen seems to offer the best dye content based on the information I have found. Some swear by Jamila (BAQ), Karishma (which has Alma and other herbs), etc. I suggest since you have color you should probably do a harvested hair test, esp since you do not want the lighter hair to trun red. I know others will chime in regarding this issue.

I'm no expert but I will chime in.
The henna plant dyes red/orangy red, anyone box claiming to give other color dyes are mixed with other substances (natural or otherwise).
You can mix it with indigo to dye black or other things to dye other colours but i'm sure it will change the color of your highlights.
Before curlynikki started using henna she had great luck with cassia. It is related to cinnamon and has similar properties to henna but it does not dye hair.
It is more like a clear strengthening rinse.

Etax2:I remember reading that you have to be careful with henna and previously dyed hair and always tell your stylist you have used henna. Also henna doesn't wear off you have to grow it out (just things I remember researching)

It won't make your hair red, but if you have any greys those will definitely turn red. Henna will give you a nice red hue in the sun, but won't make your hair red per say. One thing to keep in mind is that once you henna, this will bond to your hair and you can't dynamite it off LOL If you decide you want to dye your hair blonde or give yourself highlights, you'll have to wait a few months because the henna won't allow the color to take very well.

For example: my last henna was in 2008. I have dyed my hair black about 6 times since then. To this day I still find red hairs that were once grey. I can't dye that hair any other color even if I tried.

I agree with BostonMaria. My hair was even resistant to bone-straight blow drying. The henna simply did not allow my hair to get bone straight and to be honest, this actually pleased me. I love henna in so many ways than one.

If your hair is already dark, you have no need to worry about the color changing/lightening. You may bnotice some reddish color in bright sunlight though.

I'm kinda nervous but I'm going to try this soon. I guess I'll do my color touch up first and then henna after so that I won't have to worry about color not taking....
