Hey all, I am a former lurker and just subscribed :D. I just did the BC last month and started using megatek, i stopped over a week ago because of the shedding. Today, I noticed that I have bald spots on various areas of my head more than before :ohwell:. My regime before was cowashing everyday but my hair got very weak so I stopped that. My current regimen is to wash with elucence mb once a week, dc twice a week alternating with ors mayo and dark and lovely cholesterol (I used it up finally, didn't like it. I run my hands through my hair and I am shedding seriously. It's really weak and comes out easily no matter how gentle I am.

Sorry that happened to you. I remember experiencing a lot of shedding when i first started MT. Garlic supplements work for me. Surely some more experienced members will chime in soon. Welcome!

This sounds serious. I'd go to the doctor for a full physical immediately. I'm sure the other ladies will give you hair advice.

Welcome!

Were you moisturizing while using the MT? IMO: It's a very tricky product. :look:

If you experienced 'shedding' did you do anything to combat it, i.e. Garlic 'Poo, Conditioner, Pills?

I never experienced shedding, but I did buy the Garlic Conditioner as a precaution.:yep:

What I have started doing, is I'll use it for a couple weeks, then I will use something else for a couple weeks and then return to it.
And I use very, very little on scalp only.

I have found, for me, if I don't rotate it, at least every 2 weeks or so, my scalp becomes 'tender':yep:

MegaTek was a nightmare for me as well. Maybe you should try a garlic condish. It may take some time and a minor trim, but your hair will rebound.

How were you using MegaTek?

I'm sorry you are experiencing that! I use megatek, but I mix it with an oil. I also use it only on my scalp and I use garlic conditioner. It's a good product, but you definitely need to figure out how it works with your specific hair needs... And as with everything, every product ain't for everybody, so worse comes to worse, scrap it and find another hair growth product...

I was moisturizing with leave ins/moisturizing lotions or cfc gold. i stopped using megatek for good and wonder if the shedding is still an effect from it. i didn't know trying to fill in some of my bald spots would create new ones . and i did a porosity test and most of my hair sinks and some random strands float. i'm only just recovering from moisture overload by using ors mayo, it seems i don't know how to balance things out.

Mega Tek made me shed like mad. I rotate it now. On two weeks, off two weeks. Were you cowashing with a protein or moisturizing conditioner while using Mega Tek? I cowashed with a moisture conditioner while using it and it took about a month to start shedding. Moisturize like crazy while using it. Garlic didn't help me.

i used it on my scalp straight everyday because i was co-washing everyday and figured it wouldn't hurt. i might have been a bit heavy handed:rolleyes:. i'll try the garlic, does it help rebound from the shedding?

I agree. Get checked out. Could be something serious. But, if it's not, I've noticed that you use ORS hair mayo. I believe that contains protein. I'm not sure about the Dark and Lovely Cholesterol treatment, but your hair could be suffering from protein-overload, which could make it very prone to breakage during grooming. The megatek has protein in it as well. When you look at your shed hairs are their white bulbs at the tip? If there are then it's shedding, but if not it's breakage. If your hair is shedding excessively and there's no averse health problem making it happen, garlic (taking orally or applied topically) and black tea rinses are supposed to help reduce shedding. Hope this helps.

I was co-washing with VO5 Free me Fresia...come to think of it, it also had keratin. Oh dear...:spinning:

You got to use a tiny bit. It is very, very Strong.

It should. You have options. Nutrine Garlic Poo, Conditioner OR Alter Ego Garlic Hot Oil Treatment, Dominican Henna Queen Garlic etc...or the oral Supplements.

I found for me, rotating worked best. Avoiding the length of my hair (for daily use), and applying it like with the tip of my baby finger. Very, Very Sparingly.:yep:

I had been checking them out and they all have white bulbs and are longer, which was what made me stop the megatek. I just bought ors paks for my regular dcs to replace the dark and lovely. I'll definitely get garlic supplements. This has been going on for weeks and I thought it was just a phase until I felt the baldness :S. Thanks.

Wait - you had bald spots before MegaTek? What was the original cause? I think you should stop using the MegaTek and see a dermatologist if you can. If the spots are alopecia, you could easily be making them worse. "Shedding" might not be your issue. Shedding occurs naturally and it shouldn't be causing noticeable spots.

These ladies are giving you sound advice, but bald patches are serious.

Congrats on subscribing and your BC!

I used it on my scalp everyday and I'm pretty sure I was a bit heavy handed with it. My hair strands split, almost as if they exploded.

Garlic supplements/condishes have been known to help with the shedding. MT taught me a great lesson. I don't try everything on this forum and I make sure to test products that can have long lasting effects. Unfortunately we only learn that from setbacks sometimes.

Sending hugs your way. You will recover. Maybe you should try castor oil on your bald spots. It'll moisturize and help with growth.

:welcome4::newbie: Sounds like you may have protein overload. The other ladies have given good advice.

Go to the doctor b/c it could be Alopecia areata. If not, massage that area and use those alter ego drops. Hair vitamins.

1. are there white bulbs on the end of the hairs?
2. maybe you are allergic?

I would start by getting your iron levels checked. For me, it was low iron that went on for a couple of years. I started using MT/OCT but stopped because I thought it was the reason for me losing gobs and gobs of hair. Even after I stopped the bald spots never filled in and I continued to lose hair. Don't wait, please get your iron check. Low iron has cause me a MAJOR setback that I'm STILL trying to recover from.

FWIW, I've started using OCT/MT again to help recover from my setback.

THIS IS KEY... you said you had bald spots BEFORE megatek.

go to the dermatologist immediately.

did you have chemical burns? or used to wear tight styles, like tight ponytails?

gardless, if you have bald spots, megatek is not the answer right now. you need to find out why you are balding in areas. megatek may not be the reason you have additional spots. you may be getting additional bald spots for another health related/scalp reason and the megatek use just happens to coincide with the timing.

i had issues with megatek too. it caused my first setback in three years, so i am not a fan. though it works for other ladies that i am jealous of:grin:

good luck chica...keep us posted.

My bald spots were from a mixture of chemical burns and wearing a wooly hat all last winter. The band always rested a few inches above my nape and that area really thinned out. I started taking pills with iron a couple weeks ago because my diet is really bad at the moment, cause of school. I don't think I would have the money to visit a derm right now, I'm a broke student. But I'm staying away from megatek and will try more natural approaches.

Thank you! I'll try that..I wanna go for more natural stuff.

Omak,

I agree with the other ladies. If you had bald spots before using Mega-Tek, then you really should see a dermatologist. Please let us know how everything turns out.

One word of caution at the bolded. Monitor how your body reacts to the supplements. Some women on this board started bruising easily and had another issue I can't remember off the top of my head. You may have to experiment with your dosage until you find what works for your body.

Thanks for the heads up.

I had the spots for a long time from my hat and a bad chemical burn and they didn't get better or worse, but they got worse when I used megatek. Thank you all for your help/suggestions ^_^

ok well chemical burns and friction will cause bald spots. so at least you know what it's from.

i will gently make a suggestion.

try the simple things first.
-instead of supplements, eat healthy. or healthier. add 2-3 fruits or veggies to your daily diet. or a salad.
-use a gentle shampoo sulfate free
-deep condition once a week with a protein, then a moisturizing condish. or mix the two. let it sit (with plastic cap and heat if you can) for 20-30 min
-moisturize your hair with a moisturizing lotion that doesn't contain mineral oil or petroleum, seal that moisture in with a light oil (do this daily)
-tie your hair up at night with a satin scarf, bonnet

repeat this for a month.

take notes in a journal. observe your hair. take pictures. make changes as you see individual components of your regimen need change.

see how your hair is at that point before you add things like growth aids, etc. find the basics that work for your hair.

here's a note about garlic, i just smash a clove and add it to my food twice a day. (that may be a cheaper, easier way to see how you tolerate garlic)

i sincerely hope that helps:)

Honey, you should drop your computer and run to your campus' student clinic. I know they can give you a referral and unless you waived your health coverage, you have some.

You are running the risk of being completely bald by not getting immediate medical attention for your problem. Megatek never was your problem.

As you sit on this problem, your bald patches will just worsen. Please, for your own sake, get a dermatologist's help now.

I'm not sure if the other posts mentioned this, but you're only supposed to put the Megatek on your scalp not your hair. You must have protein overload, especially if you're co-washing daily with it.

I would stop using it immediately. Maybe even see a dermatologist. You can stop by the pharmacy and grab garlic pills and that might stop the shedding. I'm sorry this happened to you.
