Hello everyone,
I was asked to share info on my daughter she has over two feet of thick natural 4a hair, her hair is so thick i cannot put it in a bun. Her hair growth started because I was and still am not very good at hair grooming. I only learned to do a plait when I was 26 years old when she was born so I only kept her hair in 3 big plaits all the time. Her hair was growing in very thick so it became very painful for her (and me) to comb so i started combing less and less until eventually I only comb during wash days because it is softer and I wash every two weeks.

Her hair tangles very easily so I had to experiment with different conditioners that would allow some softness and reduce tangles. The best conditioner for her right now is Pantene moisturizing shampoo and conditioner I get the big bottles at Sams Club I use several handfuls at a time.

To wash she has to sit in the bathtub I loose and wash and condition one plait at a time I basically add shampoo and squeeze I don’t scrub if I do it will tangle, I then add conditioner to each plait while it is still loose. After I detangle with a very big comb I put the plait back in. I then rinse her whole head with the plaits still in it. After I take her out the tub while it is still wet (if I wait till it drys it will tangle) I then loose each plait one by one I add some oil whatever I have on hand olive oil, Indian oil just whatever I have at the time. I then use a big paddle brush to smooth (I don’t comb again) then put her bubbles back in and done. The whole process takes two hour at least. It is a very painful neck popping experience for her; it also kills my knees and right arm (I kneel beside the tub).

I paid $80 once to do cornrows it took 8 hours to do and 14 hours to let out so I will not be doing that again. I do not oil her scalp this would require me to agitate more than necessary and cause tangles I also do not believe it is necessary since our scalp produces oil.

There are photos that show her today as well as when she was younger

Oh wow I think I saw the blog post with your daughter. she is adorable and you have done so well growing and mantaining her long natural hair and going by the blog post i'm sure she knows just how beautiful and unique both her and her hair is :)

That is nearly the same process I use to do my daugter's hair. Her's isn't anywhere near 2 ft though so I applaud you for maintaining her hair natural. . . .I don't know if I would be able to do it with 2 ft of hair.

Her hair is so thick and lucious too.

You and your daughter are beautiful! Her plaits remind me of what my mother used to do to my hair when I was younger  GORGEOUS head of hair !

Her hair is beautiful!

It seems like putting her hair in a bun would be a simple hairdo, but what is it that's keeping her hair from being put in a bun? Is her hair too thick for a ponytail holder to fit around the bun?

Wow she has a gorgeous head of hair. Good job mom, for doing such a great job in taking care of her hair!

Her hair is gorgeous and I am happy to see I am NOT the only one who has to use handfuls of product in order to coat my hair.

Now I know what to possibly expect when I make it to butt length.

OMG ... her hair is just ... soooooo gorgeous! Wow!!! That's an insane amount of hair!!!

Simply AMAZING! Your daughter is a cutie pie - I love how she's workin' it for the camera.

Pooh Bear my hands are not big enough to grab all the hair at once to put a ponytail holder around it. Even if i did manage to put a ponytail in it,again it would be too big to plait.

She also goes through her bubbles very qucikly i have to throw them away after i take them out they are all stretched out. I also do not ever let all her hair out at once. those pictures were taken after i decided to get her hair cornrowed so i myself was surprised at how much hair she had since i only comb during wash days. I started with three pony tails now i am up to four they are too big to detangle.

She does get dissappointed at times she cannot wear a hat, kids pull her hair at school, but everywhere we go people stop on the street to play with her hair, even men tell me how lovely her hair is we have people taking pictures of her hair.

Blackmasterpiece how exciting we will be in New York second week of June, I would love to come by.

Phenomenal! You have done so great maintaining her thick hair naturally! Inspires me to continue the battle with my 5y.o.
