Hello,

Has anyone ever used track hair 12" to do braids? Like cut it off from the track and use it like that? Or Would this be a bad idea. i'm just trying to use what I have before I buy anything else. I have some pretty spanish wave hair that I was going to use for an install but I decided I would like to wash frequently. Thank you.

Not with 12" but I have done this. In fact, the braids I have in now, I did from tracks. I ordered the 28-inch extension braid hair from hisandher.com but they screwed up and sent tracks. I was livid but I didn't have time to return them as I needed to do my hair that long Easter weekend, and when I realized tracks are even more expensive so their screw up actually cost them, I calmed down since they'd gotten their comeuppance. (I even got a 10% coupon for their mistake, so you know I stopped fuming). I did my braids by cutting the hair off the tracks. It actually worked well, coz I'd only cut off what I needed for each braid as I got to it, so no tangled hair and hardly any wasted hair.

I've done this before on purpose too. When human hair packs looked as small as the tracks and tracks were cheaper, I'd buy the tracks and use them.

Oh well that is good to know for the future. I have to find something to do with this hair. I bought it when I was transitioning and never got around to using it.

So you're not gonna use it for braids? Or you'll save it for a weave?

I do want to use it for braids, Do you think it might be a bit short? Or should I just try to overlap 2-3 inches of the hair at the base?

Hmm...you have a point there. IMO it'd be short, although you can overlap like you say. Only I like my braids to have a more or less thickness from base to ends, so doing it like that would make the base so fat and then the rest of the braid uber thin and maybe not so cute. :ohwell:

If you were going for pixie braids, then 6 inches would not be so bad. But if it's human hair, I don't think it'll work well for pixies. I like the burned and pointed ends pixies. I don't think I've ever seen them on human hair. Plus it'd be nice if the hair extended a little more than just a bit past your own hair.

I don't think the six inches look would look good because my hair is 7 inches now. Darn it, i'm sure I'll figure something out.

I have done this on my kids before. I think it will work depending on the style you want. If you want it longer and you have enough hair just add some hair, braid down a few inches and then add some more hair in.

Thanks, I didn't think of that.

I remember I saw one microbraid tutorial on youtube where she only overlapped the first 2 or 3 inches of the hair. I wish I could find the video
I'll keep looking for it
