So, as some of you may know from the Hula thread I'm very inspired by Hawaiian/Polynesian artistic expression. The women of Hula are my inspiration and I think they wear long hair better than any other group. Seeing their long HEALTHY hair and beautiful expressions is actually what prompted me to grow my hair long. Snowbird Bento in particular who performed a dance dedicated to Queen Emmalani and her beautiful flowing hair that was so stunning it left me in tears. That's saying something when a woman's hair can inspire an entire series of chants and dances.

Reading so much about Hawai'i got me hooked on the jewelry style (so charming!) so I started collecting gold plumeria jewelry. A local show-only Hawaiian vendor I'm friendly with is attending two shows in my area in 2011, and to celebrate my accomplishment, I hope to purchase a larger piece/set from her to wear. While it's obviously for me, I want to have a beautiful reminder of how the ladies of Hula and Hawai'i inspired me to embrace my femininity and make use of the beauty that is the female crown.

So, what about you ladies? Do you have something planned for when you hit your goal other than swangin' that hur and taking lots pics?

In January I bought myself a Hair Steamer. It was a present to myself for being so consistent on my regimen.

I'd love to see the jewelry line you're talking about

Oh, it's all over the place. Some is better designed than others. The lady I buy from designs it herself and has it made so it's unique. But it all has a similar look once you learn to spot it:

I've had my eye on this ring for a hot minute. Can justify it though. :ohwell:

Rose gold necklace. I have this exact same thing in bracelet form. Rose gold w/ three blooms.

Dude! my Achievement gift was gonna be a BKT lol but now that I think about it, I should get myself something. My hair needs to stop being selfish.

You should get yourself something. It'll be a nice double reminder of how your hard work paid off! I like that some of the other ladies are getting high end haircare products. Gotta keep the hair healthy even after you reach goal.

you know, this has been brought up a number of times... and for the life of me i cant think of anything to do or get my self once i hit my goal!

OMG!! I'M SO EXCITED!!! I'm going to blow up my wish list right now. It's like getting my class rings lol. APL graduation, MBL graduation and WL graduation.

What about a beautiful comb? I've seen some stunners. Are you a girly girl? Do you like hair toys?

I used to live in Hawaii so your thread brought back wonderful memories. I miss it.

I've got the Aloha in me, LOL.

I think a Chanel lippy as dramatic as my new length may be appropriate, tee hee!

Nice idea, OP!

This is a good idea and once I think about it and come up with an answer I'll be back to post.

i love hair toys, but i am never on time for anything so i'm usually throwing my hair in a messy bun and running out lol

maybe i'll treat my self to some mac eyeshadows lol or new make up brushes??? but then i'll think about it too much and buy them anyway. LORD I HAVE NO RESTRAINT!!!! lol

Hmmmm. This is a great idea. I'm gonna hafta give this some thought but, for the post. I sorta thought the goal lengths would be rewards within themselves. Hmmmm... What to do? What to do? :thought:

Well a comb only takes two seconds to slap in ya head, girl! :)

Anyway, the cool thing about it is that you can save for it. I only have about 5-6 inches to go, so I know I'll need to be financially prepared by Spring 2011 show. If I can't grow 5-6 good inches in 12 months, then I should get a consolation gift, right?

Where were you in the Hula thread?!

Interesting, I haven't really thought about it. I'd have to think of something, but then again, MBL hair is a great gift all in itself :)

When I reach the one-year mark of my transition, I will be treating myself to a steamer (if I'm not broke by then.... lol)!

I KNOW WHAT I'M GETTING NOW!!!

when i hit hl i'm getting 2 flexi 8's! :D YEAH! at $20 a pop... you bets to believe i'mma use those bad boys!

and for wl (i think i might be there or a frogs hair away now but wont check til next month) i think i'll go get a roller set OR i will get a soft bonnet blow drier and do my own roller set (pony tail method lol i cant part)

Ha, that's true. I guess more me it's more of an emotional thing since my journey was inspired by a specific group of ladies. It just seemed fitting to get something that was a nod to their culture to keep with me. Especially since my hair will probably be in a bun 80% of the time.

This is such a good idea. I reached bsl took pictures then cut 3 inches off to even it. I should celebrate making bsl and now being a full APL. Perhaps another hair bag for all my print offs and articles or maybe another silk scarf. I really want to try the Redkin shampoo, conditioner and leave in conditioner...You dun started something now :lick:.

Well i do plan taking a pic, a professional pic at that. I think i haven't taken one since high school grad. I want a permanent concrete doc of this special event.

Hey, I may copy you, except for my jewelry will be predominately displayed in the pic in addition to my hair. :yep:

If I hit MBL I will get my hair some flexi 8 and other hair toys...i am sure i will mostly bun by then

My goal is to use up all my stash and then my gift to myself will be a LV speedy bag, which I could have had by now if I wasn't such a pj.

Good to know that I am not the only one who is buying an achievement gift. I plan to get Halley's Curls Natural when I get to BSL which will hopefully be by the summer time. I see it as kind of a reward for being consistent with my reggie.

I agree. While I'm motivate by non-Black women, it IS harder for African-textured hair to grow long because we are so prone to breakage and damage. It takes more time and attention for many of us to have long, healthy, lovely hair. It really takes dedication.

Thats a great idea! I have always thought of taking prof pics especially of my hair. I may do that when I reach hiplength which will probably be another year and a half.

When I finally reach waistlength(hopefully at the end of the year) I think I will reward myself with some hair combs from an etsy shop...since I dont really online shop and those things are pretty expensive AND because I probably wont feel like doing much to it after that.
