I think I have read EVERY post relating to this on LHCF and I bought my products today (I wont be doing it tomorrow b/c I have been scratching etc) but I still dont see the answer to my question.

My question is: Should I wash my hair, let it air dry and THEN texturize so I can better gauge the curl pattern or should I go ahead and texturize it in its current state?

I plan on cutting the texturizer with EVOO as I am nervous about my hair becoming too straight. I am at my wits end :wallbash: with what to do with my hair.

Currently my hair is in a flat ironed state (had my first dominican blowout last Sat and come Monday it was GONE -- I exercise 4 days a week and sweat like an olympic athlete LOL) I am open to cutting it but but I spent so much time combing out my locs that I want to hold onto it for a while but man I am feenin for the ease of 2-3 inches of hair (but know I would be bored/frustrated in 3 months). Chopping it all off again would be the most conducive to working out but I know I'll miss my length (even though I dont do anything with it except ponytails and pay others to maintain it) (can u tell I am a libra!?! LOL)

Any advice is appreciated. Please say something as it took me 40 minutes to find the "New Thread" button LOL and SMH

Thx!!

I don't think you should wash first because your scalp will be on fire if you do. If you want to wash to see your curl pattern you should probably wait two days after washing so your scalp won't hurt.

Do you airdry without adding any products to your hair? You may want to rethink the airdry plan if you add a lot of products to your hair when you airdry because they may cause product build up and prevent your texlax from "taking." People usually clarify the week before their relaxer/texlax to avoid this problem.

Good luck! :)

Maybe you could spritz some water on the roots so that they revert? That way you won't have to manipulate your scalp.

Are you a natural who want to be texlaxed/texturized?
I transitioned from relaxed to texlaxed. So it is somewhat different when applying the relaxer.

But I am thinking that when the relaxer hits your flat ironed hair, the moisture will make your hair go right back to it's curly state. That is until the relaxer starts working and chemically straightens it. (that's what I think)

If you choose to airdry and then texlax, wait a few days before texlaxing. Your scalp may be irritated and you can get burned.

Anway, hope that help.
This is how I texlax my hair. Texlax touchup

@ Imaccami- if I let my hair airdry with no products, combing it is damn near impossible w/o a whole lotta tugging so I typically will have to spritz it with something to at least comb it up into an afro puffball. When I flatiron I do have to use a lot of product so I guess this should be the last time I do it before the texturizer.

@ theprototype - I thought about that as well but what I think I may do is wash it on Thurs night, let it air dry or blow dry on cool and then do the texturizer on Saturday. I was all set to do it today but as hair luck would have it, I've been scratching (and I remember that no-no from my relaxer days) LOL. I should do a strand test to see what happens though..

@ Tickin4Gold- I am natural. I combed out my locs 5 months ago and am left with shoulder length hair (after cutting off split ends etc) I rocked fluffy twist extensions for a while and flat ironed on occasion. I exercise/sweat 4 days a week and nothing is long term (extensions are a mess within 30 days, press/curl lasts until I exercise) and I am tired of being a slave to my hair or a hairdresser (by the way I cannot braid/flat twist etc nor am I patient enough to learn) I want to try a texturizer to see if that will allow me to be "wash and go" (with the right products of course) because I am really 2 seconds from hacking it all off and leaving 3 inches all the way around. I want to try something to maintain length since I put so much time into combing out locs but on the flip side, I used to have this "its just hair, it'll grow back" mantra but now I am trying to hold onto it, which bugs me out because I am not hair (or am I??)
Anyhoo, lI think the game plan will be : mental health day on Friday (if I have to remain product free until the texturizer),wash it on Thurs and texturizer on Saturday.

Thanks for your input everyone. I appreciate this forum in more ways than I can say. Enjoy your weekend!!

Conducted a strand test and the texturizer didnt curl up my hair when applied. I washed it out in 2-3 minutes and then I started to see the pattern. It looks like it loosened a little and like everyone said I'd rather under process than over.

Let us know how it turns out for you.
Post pics if you have any, we love pics, even if it just the back of your head :yep:

Tickin4Gold - I just posted some. I like the outcome but I am nervous if I can get my whole head like this. Part of me wants to try the curl keeper first to see if it will give me that look. I have a hair appt on the 10th and I am going to try a rod/straw set to see if I like that before putting chemicals on it. Thats if I can wait that long. I am the typical Libra and very indecisive LOL
