To get to bra-strap? I heard 2 years the least. Anyone got there soon, when they started just above shoulder lenght. What's the average?

it really all depends from where you start. What you can do is measure the inches from your shoulders to your brastrap and divide that number by your monthly growth rate and u'll know for sure. you can't base it on other ppl's experience. Some have faster hair growth, had no setbacks, had setbacks, etc...
Most often than not, IMO, it would take about a year to go from shoulderlength to bra-strap. For me, for example, my brastrap is about 6" past my shoulders. But it only took me 5 months to get there because i started at 2"-3" inches past my shoulders

I made it in about 18 months, but you have to factor in trims as well. I probably could have made it in less than a year, but I trim my hair frequently. Give yourself some extra time, it is easy to get discouraged, but it will happen!

Its true that its dependant on many factors: your growth per month, the consistency of this, trims, retention of length...to name a few.

Robin the Hair Lady got waist length from just about above shoulder length in 2 years...so again, it differs from person to person.

differs from person to person.

Medications, nutrition, vitamins, environment, hair condition, etc... all effect growth rates.

It depends on your starting point. I think I will be bra on my two year mark. But, I started from nothing. So, nothing to bra strap in two years for me.

for me it will be just under 18 months. i started in january 2005 above shoulder length and will be at bra strap by june 2006 if not before.

I agree! :yep:

If you're lazy like me and refuse to protective style and seal after you get to shoulder, it'll take you about...er...a hundred years, if not forever, to get to BSL. :lachen:

For a lot of people, the journey from shoulder to APL is usually the slowest/toughest, but I think once you're at APL where putting hair in a bun is a breeze, BSL is just a stone's throw away. ;)

There's also the issue of how long your growth cycle is. 2-year cycles growing 1/2 an inch a month would have 12 inches max so if that's not long enough to reach BSL, then maybe you'll get to APL or just below. Methinks that's a great achievement in itself.

And you must also take into account your retention rate. My hair still grows 1/2 an inch a month but because my retention sucks, it seems to crawl now than it did before shoulder length. You have to do everything possible to protect those ends to maintain the same progress that the calculation above tells you you should have.

It took me 9 months (not full BSL, just touching), but for the first 5 of those months I wasn't taking care of my hair properly.

ETA: I'm 5'7 1/2"

I started on this broad about chin-length in the front, and almost SL in the back. Now I'm BSL in the back, and APL in the front. SO it took about 2 years. Since I'm texlaxed I experience shrinkage, when I do my braid-outs, I'm SL all around.

I wonder if OP is there yet :)

I went from grazing SL in June 2008 to what I expect to be touching BSL in June 2010...so two years for me. I got many trims in the last year, though. My little sister went from NL to BSL in 9 months, but she is at APL again because we cut off 2-3 inches when she finally straightened.

WOW, thats impressive. I'm trying to remember your sister's story. Were you keeping her hair braided?
