I hate shampoo...

Whenever I shampoo, I feel that I have to work double-time to restore the moisture in my hair. It feels extra clean but seems to become much more prone to breakage, tangling and matting. I'm considering switching to shampooing the roots only.

Anyone else feel this way or approach shampooing differently?

Luckily, I've never had a problem with shampoo. A lot of people here seem to though.

Does this happen even with the non-sulfate ones?

It doesn't, but I found the non-sulfate ones to kind of coat my hair, so it felt like I had just added more product to it.

I don't put a lot of stuff in my hair anyway, so maybe shampooing can just be done on an as-needed basis.

I do co-wash daily, though. I love that.

I have had this problem as well. I changed to a gentler shampoo as well as a sulfate free brand. I have also diluted some poo with water in an applicator bottle and used on my roots and let the run off clean the length.

I only shampoo my hair when I need to clarify. Other than that I use WEN to wash my hair. It's a cleansing conditioner.

My hair hates shampoo but my scalp hates co-washing.

Now I just shampoo my scalp and let the run-off clean the rest then follow-up with an ACV rinse.

Not all poo's are drying--try the Repairing line from L'occitane, or Shampure from Aveda. I use interchange both every three days and my hair loves them.

I cowash daily and only shampoo to clarify every 4 weeks or so. I also do an ACV rinse on my scalp to prevent build up, if needed. But I found a shampoo that I LOVE!!! I got a sample bottle from a hotel recently. It's Bamboo Creme hair wash from Lather (lather.com). I only used half of the 2.3 oz bottle but couldn't BELIEVE how much I loved it. You would've thought I was doing an Herbal Essence commercial. And, I only shampoo my scalp and NG and let the shampoo run down the length of my hair as AVE_One said.

I just looked it up online yesterday and find that it's sort of pricey ($20 for 8 oz bottle) but, I've put my order in. I LOVE this stuff. But again, I generally don't use shampoo at all.

Most shampoos aren't drying to my hair. Ones I like are:

1) Aveda Damage Remedy
2) Aveda Dry Remedy
3) Aveda Scalp Benefits
4) Mizani Purifying (for extra cleansing)
5) Miss Keys 10 en 1
6) Silicon Mix (I only use it when flat-ironing, it has formaldehyde as a last ingredient)
7) Dax Vegetable Oil (for when I used oils during the week)

Another one I really like but don't use currently is Jason Natural Biotin shampoo and I also like Nexxus.

My scalp can't do without shampoo.

Trader Joe's Nourish Spa shampoo used to be my go-to---genle, sulfate free. Worked well enough, but my hair still felt a bit stripped. So I diluted it with water, and that helped some.

Now, nothing works better for me than a mixture of BS/water/honey. I don't see myself going back to traditional shampoo.

I apply oil before cleansing my hair. this helps a lot!!

Aslo I don't do "regular" shampoo. I mostly co-wash and use a Shikakai shampoo bar once every 2 weeks or so.

I love to use shampoo.

Roux Pososity Control Shampoo
Aussie Moist Shampoo
Any cheap Clarifiying Shampoo
Jasons Natural Shampoo

I use alot of products in my hair so I need to shampoo my hair at least once a week.

My hair only loves when I shampoo with Cream of Nature...any other shampooo my hair starts acting real funky...I just got a bottle of Joico Moisture Recovery off the exchange, and my hair won't even let up. The key for me is not to overwork my hair when shampoo is in.

If I don't use shampoo, I do a baking soda rinse. Works every time.

Ditto on the oils. If I know I am going to shampoo, I try to do it in the mornings and prepoo with coconut oil the night before. My 4a hair loves this!

@ the bolded, yup this is it right here. CoN! I almost gave up on shampoos totally. The old formula in the green bottle will do wonders for you. Have you tried it OP? I have tried no poo, low poo, high poo (:lachen:), sulfate free, ayurvedic powders, shampoo bars, baking soda, ACV, drug store, salon, all natural liquid shampoos. You name it, i tried it and nothing works like CoN. I cannot believe I overlooked it and it was such a rave on here before the formula changed. I was actually using Wen and loving it but then I started to use Sabino and since that's a heavy cone product I need something a bit stronger to get it off and CoN does a perfect job without stripping the life out of my hair. You can still find the old formula here: http://www.beautyofnewyork.com/shopping/0IW4300107KX0345.htm I actually ordered 3 bottles this morning.

I won't be using Wen anymore because I can't let my Sabino go but I still have some of the Tea Tree and Lavender Wen left, OP if you PM me with which one you want and your address I will send it to you free of charge.
