Hi ladies! I'm in need of a good braider here in St.Louis, Missouri. I need one who is gentle and shows compassion with hair. I would like to get box braids...just did a major chop with my hair and want to start over. Stress can really do a job with your hair. I had no clue how much I had been through with my dad up until his death..shedding,dryness,etc. I really cried like a baby when I chopped it off..but it was really in need of a new start as everything in life.

hey! I'm in St louis!! I have gotten my hair braided many times at the African shops, but I cant say that they were gentle with my hair..well atleast not with the edges. I also do my own when I'm not lazy. I'm planning to some more soon or later. Those shops are getting too expensive for me.

btw sorry to hear about your dad... I lost mine 2 days before Thankgiving. 09 *hugs*

I'm not gonna lie about the braiders in STL. Most of them are African but their work isn't always that great. The braids themselves come out looking very nice, but it's often at the cost of your real hair underneath, especially around your hairline.

Now I've had a lot of success with a lady named Baly at the Murid African Shop. She's in Dellwood at the intersection of Chambers & West Florissant, a couple of doors down from Save A Lot. She's always been very gentle with me and her prices are actually a little cheaper than most of other braids shops in STL. She sells other stuff in her shop too like butters, oils and African jewelry. Hell I think she even sells Avon.

If I hear of any other braiders here I'll be back to let you know. Good luck if you go to Baly. She's a very nice lady who does great work.

My sister goes to a shop in St. Ann on St. Charles Rock Road. Her micros always look nice. I forget exactly what it's called, but it is across from the QuickTrip and the Rock Road Branch Library. It's in the strip mall right next to a Latino grocery store and a pizza place, I believe. If you know where that is, good luck!

Also, I grew up in StL and always had great braiders. But I never went to shops. Most all of the women who did my hair worked out of their homes. I'll see if I can find their numbers for you.

OP, I don't have any recommendations..just wanted to say HI
I had no idea you and the other ladies in this thread were here in STL.

Hello!

I don't have any recommendations either but I too grew up just outside St. Louis and wanted to say hello :).

I have been doing my own kinky twists for 8 months now and if I must say so myself, I have now perfected my technique to the point that I like them more that I've like anyone else’s who has braided my hair... ever! Now, kinky twists are far easier than box braids (in my opinion) but I just share this story to encourage you to try braiding your own hair if you are so inclined. It may be a lot easier than you think, definitely much cheaper, and hey you may even end up liking your own work better than anyone else's.

There's a really good hair braider in North County named Anthoneise.

She is superb. I wish that I could go to her, but she lives too far from me now.(She moved a few years ago) If you're interested in her, PM me.
