After reading the article about products with high levels of estrogen being marketed to African Americans I thought it would be good to see what ORGANIC products are out there you have had success with...

So far Ive heard and read much about aubrey organics. anything else?

I'm using Jasons Naturals shampoo & conditioner: Sea Kelp and Biotin. Other than Aubrey I can't think of any else right now. I'm sure the ladies here can tell you some more.

Shoot! Somebody beat me to it! :lachen: :lachen: :lachen:

Off the top of my head, I think Avalon is mostly organic...I've heard good things about their stuff. Jason stuff is usually around 70% organic, sometimes more or less.

found the website for Avalon's hair stuff and their products looks similar to jason as far as the mix of organic and synthetic ingredients. The bottles look pretty

What products would you suggest? I can't seem to pick one. They do look tempting.

I've only used the Avalon Lemon clarifying conditioner. It's awesome. Great "slip" (very much like the Elucense Moisture Balance conditioner). I would definitely buy it again and other products as well! :)

I would have to say GIovanni Cosmetics.

I use the direct leave in for curly natural styles. I also use the vitapro with my homemade concoctions.

I use to use Aubrey Organics exclusively. Now I just used the Swimmers conditioner, the madarin gel, aloe vera gel, and the biotin for men cream(same ingredients as surge but in cream form-doesn't cause tangles).

Jasons Kelp Shampoo really gets your scalp super clean, but it also causes your hair to get very matted. I always use conditioner first, then shampoo, then conditon wash again.

You can find avalon or alba products at any Safeway, Vitamin shoppe or target stores.

What about our sponsor Akiva products? Oyin is also an organic product.

I buy most of my natural or "organic" products from companies like Oyin, Myhoneychild, Asha's, Akiva Naturals, etc. The only organic hair products that I buy from the store are Nature's Gate shampoo and conditioners and I like them a lot. I buy mine from Whole Foods grocery store.

Two of Oyin's products contain parabens (an unnatural preservative). Those products are the Whipped Pudding and also the Shine Serum. If you look on the ingredient list on the back of the container, it is listed under the name "Germall II," which is another name for the synthetic preservative.

So MOST of Oyin's products are all natural, but not those two that I listed.

Also, here is a very good website that contains a vast variety of products that are health conscious: http://bewellstaywell.com/

I have ordered a concealer, sunscreen (Devita), an eyebrow pencil, and numerous low-priced samples from them. They have really fast, friendly service.

I am having great results with Indian oils. I don't know if they are organic but the ones I use have mostly herbal ingredients. The Indian oils I am currently using are Vatika, Vadik Herbs Brahmi-Amla oil (a mineral oil free one) and Vadik Herbs Bringraj Oil (also mineral oil free).

I am in the process of purchasing some Indian powders to wash my hair with because I have not found any organic shampoo I am satisfied with. I just purchased a hair cleansing powder at an Indian website called Kesh Nikhar (reetha+amla+shikakai). I also purchased a ready-made Indian shampoo called Herbal Shampoo Amla & Shikakai with Reetha, again, I don't know if it is organic because the word "Organic" doesn't seem to be listed on Indian products. I will let you all know what my experience with the powders and shampoo are like when I get them.

I love all the Aubrey Organics conditioners I have tried--GPB, Island Natural Conditioner and Honeysuckle Rose Conditioner but all the shampoos I have tried in that line made my hair matte and hard.

I will soon post some pics of my hair since I have started using Indian oils. It looks and is a lot healthier.

I was just at the Avalon website and some of their products contain parabens, some do not. (For example, the Biotin B-Complex conditioner has parabens, but the Lavender Nourishing Conditioner does not.) They have a spot on each product page that says "Ingredients" and "Standards", which pretty much lays it out for each product. Please check the ingredients carefully if you want to avoid parabens.

Has anyone tried any Terressentials hair products???

I've been checking out products on the Environmental Working Group Website and Terressentials products for hair care, skin care, etc. pops up many times as the safest brand of any personal care product.

Be careful with so called natural products. I was just in the body shop and they don't have a lot of natural products. Natural products shouldn't have so many unpronoucable ingredients. Company will say they are natural products because the USDA doesn't regulate it as much in comparison to food.

From the Kiss My Face Website. It is a really good explanation on why using Organic products are so important.

Why Natural & Organic Personal Care?

The use of natural and organic personal care products is increasing dramatically ... not just in the United States but throughout the world. People are becoming more knowledgeable and concerned about the environment and the effect of toxic chemicals on us and others. Properly formulated natural and organic personal care products are not only good for you but are actually more effective than their commercially mass-produced chemical laden counterparts.

Personal Health
Well, why are people consuming more natural and organic foods? Clearly, the absence of unnecessary chemicals and pesticides make it safer and healthier for people to ingest various foods and drinks.

Using natural and organic personal care products is of equal or greater value to your health as consuming natural and organic foods.

While the body’s digestive system is actually designed to filter out impurities, the skin, as the body’s largest organ, absorbs ~60% of what is put on it directly into the bloodstream. (SOURCE: GOOD HOUSEKEEPING INSTITUTE)

In the United States , the FDA has banned only nine personal care ingredients in the past 67 years, compared with the EU, which has outlawed 450. (SOURCE: ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING GROUP)

Effectiveness
NATURAL IS EFFECTIVE!

For example, essential oils ... a main component of any natural or organic personal care product ... are the concentrated, odoriferous components of therapeutic plants produced for their own survival and protection from disease. These precious oils influence the plant's growth and reproduction insuring a long and healthy life. The molecular structure of essential oils is close to that of the fluids and oils of our skin ... accounting for our skin's natural affinity for them. They are readily absorbed and penetrate to the deepest layers. Their regular use in skin care has been proven effective in helping correct problems such as wrinkles, excessive oiliness, dryness, blemishes, and tone. Essential oils have the capacity to promote the elimination of dead cells, regenerate new ones and to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria.

The Environment
Organic farming is safer for the environment as it helps to give back to nature by maintaining and replenishing the soil rather than depleting it. Organic farming is better for all of us in the long run.

The use of natural ingredients over cheaper synthetic ingredients eliminates the release of hazardous bi-products released into the environment during the production of synthetic chemicals in laboratories and factories across the globe.

Let KISS MY FACE take away the guess work

We take great care in utilizing only the most potent and pure botanicals, natural vitamins and minerals. Most of our ingredients come from renewable resources that are environmentally sound and many of the herbs are grown or harvested by indigenous peoples ... helping them preserve their way of life. All of our ingredients are used at the optimum level ... no skimping! Think of our products as natural and organic food for your face and skin.

I use Aubrey's Island Natiral shampoo and conditioner. I am not crazy over the way that the shampoo makes my hair feel while it is in my hair, but my hair feels okay after I rinse. After I apply the conditioner, my hair is VERY moisturized. I used to use Oyin's conditioner, which is EXTRMELY moisturizing, but I developed an allergic reaction to it. I think I'll stick with Aubrey's because I can get it locally, and I don't have to order it on the internet. I follow that with raw shea butter, which is very softening for my hair.
