I have been reading a few of the MN threads recently and have become interested in how the topical application of MN has helped some members obtain great growth. I am particularly interested in these threads as for a large part of my adolescence (and even now) I have been plagued with yeast and skin infections (sorry if that is TMI).

Anyway I also have suffered from internal candida which I have tried to keep in check and I have such a bad sugar addiction so much so that I can actually get ill from my consumption of sugar based foods (as is the case now).

Anyhoooooo I wanted to hear if any of you ladies feel you have had stunted growth as a result of sugar addictions, candida and fungal skin infections.

I know this is a sensitive topic but I thought it would be useful to share experiences as I am now convinced that there is a correlation between stunted hair growth and sugar over consumption. I have also read research which suggests that Sugar consumption also depletes our B vitamin reserves :scratchchin:

TIA

Interesting. Especially the part where sugar depletes our b-vitamins oh no!
..bumping!

Hi! My name is MonaRae and I have a sugar addiction!

I didn't know that it sugar depletes your vitamin B reserve. That's really bad for me b/c I eat meat and I eat very little beans. And what made matters worst is I would take my daily vitamins (b complex included) and have something sweet right after it. I knew it was bad but I did it anyway.

Just this past week I gave up candy which is my main sugar supply. I have great hopes that my hair growth will increase now that I'm off sugar. I also will eat more beans to help build my B vitamin reserves.

If that is true, than I can see how it could stunt hair growth. I recently started a thread regarding hair growth and B vitamins were one of the components listed.

Yes. Yeast can prevent/stunt hair growth and that's why some on the board use anti fungal creams on their scalps. I think those that have fungus find the creams beneficial.

If you do decide to research this further, please share what you find. If you list your findings, others may learn they have the same issue.

Is there something to cleanse the system of candida? I am a type 2 diabetic. I've always felt that the insane desire for sugar was so out of my control. If it is true about the B vitamins then that would explain the tendency toward anxiety and skin problems.

I'm off to work. I can't wait to check this in the AM.

I think you have a valid theory. I've been suffering from weird bodily & scalp symptoms something terrible and candida keeps being mentioned in my quest for answers. :scratchch I must admit I was never consistent on MN, but when I was consistent for a little while, I did get a little growth spurt. I also must admit I was feeling relatively fine (in relation to bodily symptoms) when I stopped eating AS MUCH sugar for a while and also switched to stevia. :scratchch I did have a flare up of bodily and scalp problems when I started again having pie and ice cream every night. :look: I think it's a valid theory.

Have you tried Can-sol? Its an all natural Amish product that taste awful but it the ONLY thing I have found that works for a long term yeast infection. (in conjunction with other things) My story is much like yours I had a yeast infection for over a decade off and on. Many Dr's and drugs and then natural remedies and controlling my sugar intake and then finally Can-sol. I also am using MN right now and it seems to be working so maybe there is a connection. Yeast overtakes your body in so many ways.

I'm confused. So problems with yeast cause you to be addicted to sugar or addictions to sugar cause problems with yeast?

I have suffered over the years with some form of candida. Sugar, sugary foods and drinks, refined flours etc., in excess, feed yeast. The more yeast you have in your system, the more you crave the things that feed it (sugar). A yeast ridden body affects health and contributes greatly to weight gain.

Unfortunately it does. There is a wealth of information about it so just do some google research.

Have a look at the article below:

Why dont this thread has more responses? It's a good subject....research time?

Lets keep it going ourselves ladies. I am a wholehearted believer in the notion that the biggest contributing factor to health and vitality of which hair is one of the greatest reflections is our internal health. If things aren't going well on the inside they will be reflected on the outside. Our bodies will always seek to preserve the most vital functions when resources are running low and if there is not enough to go around our hair, skin and nails will usually suffer.

Yes this is true this is why I am now examining is systemic yeast infections also change the dynamics of our internal health and thereby effect our hair growth. My Doctor recently said something to me as she was referring me to my derm which was that she felt my recent flare up was the result maybe in the change of my bodily pH and balance which was being manifested on my skin. If this is the case, then I am sure that my hair is also not immune from these manifestations...? :scratchchin:

Yes Mleah - I am actually considering a candida cleanse. If you want I can send you some web links to a very good site. Candida cleanses tho are not for the faint hearted. Also just to let you know that Yeast issues usually are connected to other issues such as hormonal imbalances etc which I am also dealing with. I also have diabetes in my family. As such the key word for me is regaining BALANCE. I am seriously thinking of taking up Yoga...:yep:

Interesting..... I know I eat too many carbs in general (which turn into sugar).

Very true. This is a key part of the Candida cleanse to cut out all refined carbs for a limited period of time to essentially starve the offending yeast.

I really think you should look into it...:yep:

Yes it does. I am convinced that my yeast imbalance was caused by over zealous Drs in the 80's whom prescribed antibiotics for everything. The policy has now changed amongst primary health practitioners.

I'm confused. So problems with yeast cause you to be addicted to sugar or addictions to sugar cause problems with yeast?

Yes yeast live off simple carbs and sugar so you are always craving them to keep them alive or so the theory goes.

The weight gain stems from all the sugar you're forced to consume due to candida control. When candida is getting some of the sugar, you yourself may feel weak and therefore crave more sugar or carbs for energy. A cycle that leads to weight gain.

I would love the links about candida cleansing. How faint of heart? LOL

I think she means it's not for the faint of heart because you go through what they call die-off where you get worse before you get better. This is discussed a lot in the health forum.

Here's a good summary about Candida (Candida Albicans is the fungus that lives in all of us but tends to get out of control in some and cause all sorts of symptoms): http://www.breathing.com/articles/candida.htm

BTW, MN may work but like most steroid creams, it just makes you more dependent on it, should candida issues arise again. You will find you need more the next time. My other problem with MN is so many use it without even knowing if they need "treatment". And just as it's habit forming, I won't be surprised if they create a problem where none existed. Just a thought.

ETA: The link I provided for die-off is actually part of a very informative website so here's the homepage: http://www.wholeapproach.com/index.php

do you have a website you recommend buying this product from.. i dont trust anyone..l also suffer from the Y

Great topic. I had ongoing yeast infections that never stopped with prescribed meds. I was told that I had a lot of yeast in my body.

I realized that I had a sensitivity to small amounts of sugar when I started the 'Flat Belly Cure'. You can learn more about it in the health forum. Keeping my sugar to 15g's a day and limiting carbs helped dramatically! I've never been one to drink juice or soda and I'm not overweight. My hair has never really been long and I've never consistently taken B vitamins. I try to choose brown rice/pasta/bread over white. I always use Xylitol in place of white or brown sugar. Little changes help.

I like what you ladies said about balance. Can the body's ph be balanced by drinking lemon water or green tea with lemon?

I bought mine from Everything herbs its expensive, get the liquid and this may be TMI but take the liquid orally and vaginally. Use a tampon or a sea sponge. It taste soooooo very bad, but it works. Your Vajayjay will weep ( I know, I know, but it does so wear a panty liner) do this for a few weeks I also use garlic tablets during this time. Continue with the liquid for the longest period the directions say for your level of infection. Wash all your clothing with a tbs of tea tree oil and keep the pants and underwear you use during treatment separate till it can be washed the same way. You can also use aloe juice as a chaser for the can-sol the first few days because it will take it much faster and deeper into your intestine and help it enter your bloodstream. Limit your sugar and after use a good pro-biotic.
Here is more info about can-sol

"[FONT=Arial, Helvetica][SIZE=-1] This unique combination was designed and formulated by the much-loved and admired Amish Herbal Practitioner, Solomon Wickey. This is for severe cases of Candida and other persistent yeast infections. Part of Solomon's wisdom in choosing two of the herbs in this combination was to observe Nature and note which plants can and do live in dark and moist or wet environments and never have problems with a fungus infection such as yeasts. The roots of Purple Loosestrife (loves to be near or in water) and the White Pond Lily fill these requirements exactly and lend their strength to us for protection against yeast and other fungus infections. The indiscriminate use of antibiotic treatments, which are in reality yeasts themselves, do kill bacteria, but, at the same time, encourage the growth of fellow yeasts and other types of fungus. Often, normal yeasts associated with the body, such as candida, are pushed to an overgrowth type of situation by the use of antibiotics and cause an even worse problem."

If you have an Amish town near you the doctor there most likely knows how to make it. The one 20 miles east of here does. Its much cheaper that way and my guy is super nice, but I think can-sol from everything herbs is stronger.

off to google to see if this stuff can be sent to the UK........

As I was reading this thread I can now understand why so many that go on high protein low carb diets benefit in weight and hair growth. Hair is protein so to up the protein will up the hair growth. For those of us (including me up until about 3weeks ago) on high carb (which turns into sugar) diets, we are prone to yeast and according to the OP deplets B vitiamins which are also a good source for hair growth.

I am really curious about this so now I have to do some investigation work!

A couple years ago a high protein low carb diet helped me with this prob and my hair grew super fast but lately I have been a slave to carbs and they are kicking my butt. I fall asleep immediately after eating a bowl of rice.

Paul D'Arco is very good at this. :yep: Its an herb from the South America rain forest and whenever I have a yeast overgrowth it what I drink.

Its made into a tea and you can find it in about most health food stores.

^^ But you need to do more than that. You need to also build your system with probiotics and keep candida in check with garlic supplements, caprylic acid (Most anti-yeast supplements have it); cut out sugar, wheat, yeast, dairy, anything fermented...eat mainly alkali-forming foods; essential fatty acids. MSM is also a good anti-candida product as is coconut oil, so you can use this in your cooking. Another anti-candida product that is as good as Pau D'Arco is oil of oregano. A few drops in a drink can help. Aloe Vera juice is also good for your digestive tract.

There are also kits you can go buy from say, The Vitamin Shoppe, that are for Candida Cleansing.

To fight candida you really have to go at it gung-ho! And for the first month of cleansing, you should avoid all fruit, including tomatoes.

ETA: A good book to have on hand is Candida-Related Complex: What Your Doctor Might Be Missing.
