Hi all,
I wanted to buy a curling creme but all the ones that get rave reviews are not so cheap and available online only (or at least not near me)
I've narrowed it down to three but before I fork over the price for a 16oz tub +s&h I wanted to see which one do you ladies prefer and why?
TIA
p.s what's with all the tasty names? I'm sure one of you ladies will come chiming in that such and such company's soufflé is the greatest :lachen:

I love bee mine curly butter. It keeps my hair nice and shiny and has a nice soft hold. Kinky Curly is also great just too expensive for me and it can get crunchy if you use too much. Miss Jessies curly pudding was awful. It didn't blend well and left residue in my hair and left it dry. I would take Bee Mine any day over the other two.

KCCC is more of a gel. (Aloe vera based.) Are you looking for a creamy butter-type thing?
I'm not entirely certain I guess, I read a few KCCC threads and wanted it, which led me to afrobella and her review of KCC, then I saw her review of Miss Jessie's curly pudding and wanted that, then I saw someone else's Bee mine review and wanted that one :drunk:
I figured I'd put the debit card away and do a poll. :lachen:

I voted for Miss Jessie's but I actually like the baby buttercream. I only use it for my twist out but it is 'bomb'! I'm a fan bought two more tubs and I'm 'hair'bernating under a wig for 4 months. My waves/twists are so defined and my hair is soft but with a good hold. It is not all natural so I didn't want to like it but the proof was in the "buttercream"! Ha!

Actually I believe it might have been the buttercream mentioned on afrobella. I figure if miss jessie's wins I'll get a jar of each (buttercream and pudding)

:look: never tried those. I'm sure there are plenty of threads and reviews on each of them.. i'm a gel girl myself....I do have some Afroveda curl define that I have not put to use yet.. hopefully that goes over well...

LOL ... I hear you. Just didn't want you spending $20 and expecting a butter-y creamy thing.:ohwell: I actually like KCCC a lot. It's a light, moisturizing kind of gel. Great for twists. :lick:

I've been playing in my ng and feel the urge to just chop off my relaxed hair (I'M 9 months post). So I made a deal with myself not to cut my hair 'till I get the perfect curling creme/gel.

Eco Styler Olive Oil Gel. The only product that gives me great curls so far.
I bought some eco styler crystal ice to do my daily ponytail to work, I like that it has no alcohol so it doesn't dry my hair out and leaves it pretty soft. I think I might try the olive oil one eventually.

i actually really like miss jessies baby buttercream. and i love oyin shine and define. the shine and define is all natural and is like a cream gelly. it has hold but moisture too.
the miss jessies is all moisture for me.

Hmm, can you edit a poll? I might have to add Oyin to my list. I think eventually I'll probably try them all, now it's all about which one to get first :yep:

What exactly are you looking for? I think that will dictate which product you get. Here are my thoughts:

- MJ Curly Pudding - you get great curl definition, but it is very drying, for me at least. For $38, I don't want to have to run out and get a special deep conditioner to combat unnecessary dryness. Although, the did come out with that special deep conditioner - probably to combat all the dry strands the curly pudding was creating. Smart on their part, I guess.

- MJ Buttercreme - great moisturizer, but doesn't really "define curls". Just moisturizes what you already have, IMO. And for $50+, there are WAY better moisturizers on the market.

- KCCC - gives you curl definition + moisture. BUT, it needs to be used in conjunction with a leave in. If used properly (and not overly - as in too much) you will NOT get crunchy hair. A little goes a long way with this stuff, so the $25 actually isn't that much given that the rub should last you a while. When I used it, the tub would last a couple of months, and I have a lot of hair.

My vote is definitely KCCC. I get soft, touchable curls that last 4 to 5 days. The hair is fluffier though with KCCC for me.

If you want "more controlled" curls, I would go the route of one of the EcoStyler gels, used on top of a liquidy leave-in...maybe even SSF. If you can get past the sweet, fruity (whatever it is) smell of SSF, and use that underneath, your curls will pop and your hair will be super soft.

Thanks for the rundown of my top two, that was very informative :yep:. I guess I'm looking for some definition but I don't want to end up with dry, flaky or crunchy hair. But I don't really care if it's a gel or creamy consistency.

i just purchased ORS smooth and hold pudding from cvs this weekend. i love it. the texture looks and feels just like miss jessies products. i love it and its only $6 bucks. it has a soft hold so it will keep your twists and make for a great braid out.
i dont shingle so i dont know about that. but this is now a staple for me.
miss jessies is not that popular on this board because of the ingredients but i love her products, if you are thinking of buying from her i would first start out with the organic root stimulator smooth and hold pudding.
im not sure if its a new version of the organic root stimulator twist and lock gel.

Aww dang, now I need to make a trip to CVS. Oh but I also wanted to add that Oyin Handmade whipped pudding is really good for twist/braid outs. Plus a little goes a long way. Keeps hair moisturized and soft while maintaining definition.
