I love Silicon mix also.:yep: The only thing I don't like is the smell. Also if it works for my hair I don't worry about the ingredients/rules.

You have to go by what your hair responds to. If you are using silicon mix snd you notice that your hair is dry or not retaining moisture, then the mineral oil in the conditioner is blocking moisture out of your strands. But if you use it and your hair is moist and soft, that means its working for you.

Try it to see how your hair likes it and make a judgement based off of that. Different strokes for different folks.

I've never used Silicone mix but most of my products have mineral oil and/or cones.

I use them because they work on my hair.

You'll just have to see what works for your hair.

There could be a million people on here who avoid a product because of the ingredients, that's not going to make me change what works for me.

thanks ladies! that makes me feel a lot better because there are so many products i want to try but stay away from because of certain ingredients. im about to be a PJ to the point where my local BSS will send me christmas cards!!

OT: Is that Ya-Ya from ANTM in your siggy? She knows how to rock natural hair.

I want to try silicon mix.. Do natural 4cxzzz heads use this with success?

My hair seems to really like this too. I really don't get why, mineral oil is like the second ingredient. It's a strange thing, but I really like this product.

Ladies, what is the exact name of the slicione mix I should order? When I went to a site to order their were about 7 different products with silicone mix in the name.

TY

I love silicon mix, but then again I used plenty of products with cones and I don't try to stay away from mineral oil. I haven't found either to be harmful for my hair. I have super-sensitive/acne-prone skin, and one of my favorite skin moisturizers that doesn't break me out has mineral oil.

Yes Silicon Mix is the bomb...I had a tub under my counter for almost a year, I never tried it because of the mineral oil. Well I used it one day when I was pretty far along in my stretch, and my new growth just melted! Try it, don't let the ingredients scare you, it might be heaven for you too!

I'm not messing with anything with bad ingredients if I can help it. I checked it out because of the hype and read the ingredients like LOL shoot and went on my merry way. I get using what your hair likes but if that's the case we might as well go back to dax, hot combing with grease, and washing hair every month or two. That's how my mom did my hair as a kid and it grew like crazy but I kinda have the "when I know better I wanna do better" mentality. Also the price doesn't align with the bad ingredients for me you wanna have bad ingredients fine but break me of with a 4 dollar price tag not the same price I can pay for a mostly natural product then again who's to say what natural really is *grabs an avocado and smashes it with coconut oil*.

I dont get caught up in mineral oil and cones, just use what your hair likes.
Sometimes I think we get so hyped about hair products.
Remember what work for one head of hair does not work for all.

LOL. Too funny.

I am still confused about this product. I used it about two years ago. It was okay, but I really did not know much about DC then. I was thinking about buying it again until I saw the mineral oil as the 2nd ingredient. One ladies on LHCF said that the mineral oil did not bother her since you rinsed out the conditioner...then I saw that I would have to pay $7 for the mix and $4 shipping (amazon). That's when I gave up and bought AO Honeysuckle Rose for $8.

I don't know what it is about that product but it's like magic in my hair. I was starting to try to use other DC's with more natural ingredients, and some still can't even do half of it. :nono:

That's oversimplifying the issue.

It's one thing to use a conditioner with mineral oil, and quite another to not wash your hair for two months or to hot comb your hair with grease.
I promise that if someone was doing that, and then switched to heat protectant and washing more often, her hair and scalp would thank her profusely. Those are just basic, universal things that will help anyone's hair: keeping the scalp clean and protecting the hair when using direct heat. It's been scientifically proven that those things are always going to be good for hair.

Product ingredients are a ridiculously gray area, where it truly depends on the individual head. There are no BAD ingredients and GOOD ingredients. It's all relative. I fully believe that some people's hair flourishes better with natural products, but I also believe that other people do better with the man-made stuff. And IMO, when people are made to think that there are GOOD ingredients and BAD ingredients, it really does ruin their hair journey. They shut out all these products (like Silicon Mix) that just may turn out to be exactly what their hair needed. And they use all this other stuff that may not work for them, like coconut oil and avocados. And then you have people complaining that their hair is dry, it's crunchy, it's hard, they're frustrated, they're tired of their hair...and they flat out refuse to try them evil products on the shelf in CVS. Them evil products that just may save their hair.

In a nutshell, natural is not always going to be the best for the hair. Some people just need a little dimethicone...a little polyquaternium-83...a little sodium lauryl sulfate...to make their hair happy.

I'm not knocking your natural products...if they work for you, then that's great.
But I'm just saying that your logic is flawed.

that's just it my hair grew MUCH better then than it does now lol
My point was simply if we do what our hair likes we might as well do everything it likes. If my hair was better now than then I wouldn't have a point to say just cause ur hair likes something doesn't mean you should do it. In other words: just because something makes your hair feel good doesn't mean you should do it just because it makes your hair grow doesn't mean its healthy. It just means it makes your hair grow or feel good but in actuality it could be causing long term harm, but I get your point.

If the boards said eating 3 fast food meals a day would help you lose weight would you listen to that? Some people are not bothered by the "bad" ingredients" and some are. Don't stop using what works for you because it didn't work for someone else.

@ the black bolded and with all due respect, that doesn't make an ounce of sense to me. Why would you stop doing what works for your hair?

Haircare is not like food.
With food...all of your points work. Natural and unprocessed is generally going to be healthier, and just because it tastes good and makes your tummy sing doesn't mean you should be eating it.

When it comes to the human body, health is more standard. Water is healthier to drink than alcohol. Salad is healthier eat than hamburger helper. You can make these statements, and it will be true in almost, if not all, cases.
But hair is not like that.

With hair products, you need to be doing and using exactly and only what your hair likes. I don't understand why I should throw out all my man-made products and start using natural ones. So I breathe easy, knowing that all my products are healthy? While I sit with a head full of dry, broken-off, and rough as hell hair? No thank you!!

@ the red bolded, I highly doubt that. Maybe you had longer hair back then, but that may be due to how your mother or whoever took care of your hair styled it. I find that the styles worn by most children (braids, twists, cornrows) can mitigate bad practices, because they are low-manipulation and in some cases, protective. So the child still retains a measure of length.
But in terms of health, no ma'am. I refuse to believe that your hair was healthier then than it is now.
And if it was, then you just might not be applying healthy hair practices correctly. If you don't think your hair has improved with good hair practices, there's probably something up with your regimen. That's up to you to figure out.
But there's no way that grease, a hot comb, and a dirty scalp was ever better for your hair than heat protectant, a ceramic flat iron, and a good shampoo.
